Typically old people get it:D it follows nerves and is really painful, good luck hope it isn't a really bad case and you can get periods of relief.

Had a mild case last week!

It started with some itching...followed by sharp pains. Then I scratched so much, it created more pain. Next, I went to Kaiser because I wasn't sure if it was the scratching causing the pain. Everything limited to a small strip of skin from my rib cage to my back.

Mine never broke skin and went away after a few days. No meds prescribed other than Advil.

That was a second go-around for me. The condition is surprisingly painful.

Apparently there is a vaccine to help prevent it or lessen the effects. I don’t know but what I’ve heard I sure as shit don’t want to get it. Painful as fuck!
I am considering the vaccine now.

Before you couldn't get that vaccine until after age 60, but they recently dropped it to age 50.

Based on Gelcoater's posts...he qualified a long, long time ago for the vaccine :D:p:)

Doc set me up with some (very f$&@);g large) pills which are supposed to shorten the duration of the outbreak.

You are definitely Not on the list, lol.
I’ve heard it is rather painful, but I’m only about a work week into this deal.
At first I thought a bug or spider had taken a taste (and liked it) but the spots just got bigger and more inflamed.
I wonder if it helped or hurt that I had to rub a couple of spots with acetone this morning?

It felt awesome while I was running the acetone in, but turned into HOLY SHIT! as it evaporated.

I gotta get a shot before that shit tracks me down. With my luck, just thinking about it will cause me to break out like a teenage girl two days before the prom.

My dad had it on his face and neck, it took three months for it to go away.

The word I’ve heard described in really bad cases is agony. So I’m going to talk to my doctor about the vaccine.

You just made the list, pal.

I’ve read that about nerves.
F$&@“g Marine industry! :D

Yes, it attacks the nervous system. Is said to be caused by stress and a lowered immunity system. Sorry to hear your at the effect of it. I am just beginning to get over mine, been 2 weeks now. It's crazy how it changes/evolves moment by moment, it itches, burns, dull ache pain in muscle/bone, slow stabbing pain, fuuuuucking ridiculous. I'd get maybe 4 hrs of sleep before I'd awaken from the pain, itch etc.. If you scratch it it will burn like a m/f'r afterward. Mine is in my quadracept and gluteous maximus on left leg. At the same time this came on my right knee and lower leg to my toes swelled up from my rheumatoid arthritis attacking a new joint and I couldn't bend my knee enough to walk up stair normally. Good times. Where is yours located? When did it start? Get a big bottle of Alleeve (naproxen sodium) I was taking 4000mg daily just to be marginally functional. Finally broke down and started smoking some cannabis at night just to get some relief from the annoying discomfort and to fall asleep. Glad to be getting over it and reducing the meds to my normal levels for the R.A. That shit aint no flippin peach either.
Google it, just don't let the images startle you too much, the facial rashes are harsh looking. Good luck with your situation. Get good rest as much as possible. I hope your case is as mild/minimal as possible.

I had it on my right hip when I was 20 years old and playing college football. It is very rare for someone to get it at that age. It was like poison oak x1000. All I remember is putting ice packs on it during the day and scratching the hell out of it before bed. That took place for a few weeks until it went away.

I feel bad for people that get it on their face. Best of luck

Had it on my side .
Worst pain I ever had for three weeks .about a 3” spot.
I think it from the chicken pox vaccine. 40 years later this happens.

I still don’t get the shingle vaccine .

Had the chicken pox when I was a kid in grade school .
Have you had the chicken pox?
Yes. And mine was severe! In my ears, nose and throat.
I think I was 8? 9?
Several kids in our street had it at the same time. Since we all had it, we sort of got a mini vacation from school. The parents let us play at one or another’s house during school days. As kids we were happy to be “sick” :D

I had it in my early 30’s, wasn’t bad. My brother had it in early 50’s, sucked ass for him. Hits everyone differently. Do what the Dr. tells you and don’t fight it.

So, you were officially an old dude before me.
Thanks!
You helped my self esteem.
You might be on the list...for a Christmas card. :)

Just this year, the FDA approved the vaccine for those 50 and older. Before it was 60 years old, so ask your doctor for a shot when you get a flu shot this year.

Lol. Sorry couldn’t resist. But that sucks. Hope you heal soon.[/QUOTE]
Thanks.
So far, not horrible. Certainly not as painful as I’ve heard described.
But, it is early on. I’m may be back in a day or two crying the blues.
I sprayed a boat last night and into the early hours of today. It sucked:rolleyes:
On the bright side, there’s no one in your way on your way home from work at 3 something.

Yeah my mother in law had it and it sucked. Dr said it was stress related.

It's the no sex for 1 year after an outbreak that pissed me off most...
The worst is probably the fact that Gelcoater is so old he can't get it up without a pill anyways. No his doc is for sure gonna revoke his prescription. Lol!!!

Take the meds ASAP!

It’s not always bad if you catch it early and catch it before it takes hold.
