Put them slightly deeper than optimal like we did on a buddies 33 the boat starts to want to drive on the bullet and makes the transom get loose. It’s a fine line of just perfect. On my 37 I was adjusting at first about 125 thou at a time and it was way to much. Started adjusting at 025 thou and got it dialed right in. 025 though could be the difference of 8-10 psi.
Mounting a balance tube that links the motors on the backside helps pressure stay consistent. Its an easy add on that is proven.

Couldn’t you connect a transom-mounted pickup there?
I am going to be running external pick-ups into a strainer with a pressure relief, then into the existing water intake paths along with a balance tube at the rear to create even better consistency and equalization. Blowing the hoses off with too much pressure is a pain in the a**.

Be sure to drain your strainers before the cold nights. I learned the hard way on our Skater.
Your new 42 is gonna be an incredible machine, when will it hit the water?

Do you really need strainers? Outboard cats in the Nordics never use them.

Also be aware that you will get a lot of water with a small pickup. I can tell from experience that an opening the size of two Gaffrig speedometer pickups gives way more water than a 2.5 liter Mercury needs.

We used strainers in Kommiefornia Delta because all the vegetation floating & partially submerged would clog the small water filters in our 300XS. Made a huge difference. Steve "Nice Pair" designed & installed them for me & removed the stock filters

I am using the strainer as a place to get rid of excess pressure so that lines don't get blown off with pressure spikes. As l said before, pulling the chaps and putting things back on is a pain and eats up a bunch of running time.

Start by reducing the pickup size.

We were out on the delta today. Lots of debris and lots of birds.

I regularly check or back flush the filters on my 300xs, but they never seem clogged.

Does the strainer go between where the filter used to be and the compresso?

Nice Pair installed them under my hatch. We could un-screw them, dump out all water & debris, fill with water, & screw them back on. Work PERFECTLY, until I forgot to drain them 1st winter here in Ozarks

I think I will keep strong pressure at the strainer and have the option of opening the valve as needed. Its worked out pretty well for me on all of the others that I have done.

Took F14's C-Dory out yesterday to celebrate the New Year. Caught an excellent dock float worth +/- $400, stopped at a buds dock for a quick cheers & home @ dusk, great day

those strainers/filters made of PVC By Mr Sherman were bad azz and far superior to the OEM!!the ease of service and filtration capacity were hands-down BOMB!might be some confusion as these were dedicated to the air pump cooling system ONLY and not for engine cooling system.. I could be wrong, but think JP is refering to sea-strainers the size of basketballs for engine cooling and always mounted inside boat..

smaller pickup means less drag

less drag means more speed

The single outboard 23+ foot market is gonna get very interesting soon with the 24 from Wicked & 23 from Trick. I believe either can be ordered with a big single or twin 300s. I don't care about top end but want a rock solid ride that gets thru shit water & cruises 80

If I get the Argo Wide body 23’ , it would be set up to maximize speed and balance. The boat would be better for some as is. That said, I would remove center dash console and set the boat up with inline seating for two people. The net result would be a better balanced boat, and a better handling boat. It also would be 5-7 mph faster due to better weight position and less overall weight. Less wetted surface = speed…
I wanted an Argo 23’ previously, but it was set up for basically one person…ugly at the dock because you can’t get in or out without a major effort. Shoulders literally rested on the sides of the cockpit. Awkward as hell…cramped quarters , especially for a bloke of my size.
The new wide body gives easy access in and out, removing the dash console gives better access and comfort. Ithe current console would be in the way of center steering anyway.
I’m considering a carbon fiber layup. Takes overall hull weight down to 650 from 850. I figure, if you are boating with 4 people, you’re in the back of the pack. “If you ain’t the lead dog, the view is always the same” I’d love some feedback from the congregation on the 23’ Argo

Seems like more work than a Trick or LCB.

The Twisters also come new very very very very rough you will spend way more than you think to get it nice.It may be one of the best boats I have ever owned BUT it is not for normall boater. I looked at the new side by side 23 Argo yesterday and it has a much better finish and cockpit is small maybe the size of a River Rocket and still requires a lot of work when you get it You must have a good glass guy or be able to do it yourself to finish a Twister or Argo I would estimate 12 to 50k to get PAINT seat bases tanks console add a few bulkheads and glass work done to be able to rig I believe Kaps had all his work sourced out and had was near 150k before boat was done and rigged with 300R. .Build quality also varies a lot from boat to boat in both brands.

The same S&C thread suggests:

My 02 cents in this discussion is that a twin boat is much safer. A second motor to counter act the torque and a second skeg to keep the boat going straight is a big deal if you want to go fast in your home waters. ...

Sounds like you need a Twister or Argo "be careful", its a lot of boat with a high X dimension and single skeg to hold straight when a sponson grabs into a roller. ...

single engine cats are when driven incorrectly are very prone to spinning. Sometimes the boat rolls sometimes it doesn’t.

Also you cannot comfortably cruise slop at 70 in a 24 ft boat it is not long enough in my opinion. ...

I have lost steering due to motor being to high and they do not go straight like a twin engine boat does when it happens.

Maybe a longer single vee like a Chaudron 27 would be better suited for LOTO? 85 top end with a 300R.

23 with a single will never work.....:)

Or not. :)

I understand a twin is better in every way but my miniscule budget can't stretch at this time.
Our end of the lake is MUCH different than the busy side

We have an Argo with a 300R in our group that runs 120 at will (everytime out). I wouldn't worry about weight placement being aft when you are adding 200 lbs a foot off the transom by running a 500. The boat should run mid 30s without an issue. All of the talk about a big single (no pod) cat being sketchy is 100% real. I have a couple LCBs with singles and the shorter length makes them more forgiving not having to hold all of that length up and keeping it straight but I have still had some attention getting nose ins that have kicked the boat off course.

To be safe I prime mine Strainer with a bottle of water if the boat sits a couple weeks in the Summer Heat!!

You Have some good options Now!! I am looking forward to seeing the Trick get wet Soon. Jeff sends me photos weekly. Being 1400 pound bare hull and tanks having center pod the 450 seams like a good option.

The 23 Argo will be a Hot Rod at 850 Pounds Glad to Heat Jack will be Building them at Full Throttle. Price point seems Fair ready for Power.

As you saw on my Twister Build Thread its a bit of work to Import and Clean up the Glass and Gelcoat.
Being the Twister does everything i could expect at all speeds perfect in reasonable conditions that anything else could compare looking forward to watching these options come to play.
I plan to break 120 in a couple weeks.

Through hull into the strainer, pop off valve and back out to the motors these new fat slobs you really don't want to over pressure, when you see one with it's dress off you'll understand why.

And I wonder if the Trick isn't much more boat for only another $19k?

A Tuff will run circles around the AT, and there is a bunch wrong with the interior to me.

I assume it's a better rough water boat, but yeah, there's a couple things that really bother me - not capped, the windshield looks an afterthought, etc.

I am not a fan of the screw on Windscreen would leave off and do a smaller Acrylic to front Seat.

Keep us Posted if you decide to Order one Domestic. The new website lists all Composite Infused builds with Carbon option. Also has some good video.

23 Argo-New Widebody- 23' 0", 57" Wide Tunnel, 96" Beam.

My 24 Twister is 24' 2" with 21' 2" Tunnel 53" Wide, 93" Beam. The C Class seams to be still alive but Mostly 24 Twisters.

How deep is the tunnel on your Twister?
I believe the new 24 Wicked is 54" wide by 14" deep

Twisters and Argos are built for offshore racing on the Baltic Sea and some big lakes in Finland and Sweden.

That requires boats that are light, strong and fast with a 90 hp or 200 hp engine depending on the class.

However, West Coast boaters put more effort into the finish of their trailers than Nordic race boat builders put into the finish of the boats they build.
