...I had lost my phone book a while back and lost his number,...so I played detective and actually found John Tarzan Austins house... ...He lives in a small farming community in Central California... ...I would love to tell stories of some of our shenanigans of many years ago,...but anyone who knows him might understand why I'd better think twice about it... ...For now I'll just leave it at,...we lived at a very high fun level
In 1974 John "Tarzan" Austin left the employ of Tommy Ivo to wrench/drive Greg Schiegert's "Hot Tuna" fueler. Schiegert was a big game fisherman type (hence the name) out of Florida. He didn't know much about dragsters except that he wanted one. Well he got this very nice Woody car and sent Tarzan on the road with it. John did okay with the car but I think Schiegert ran out of tuna to pay the bills and the deal was parked.
John "Tarzan" Austin -- one of drag racings all time "characters" has slowed down some over the years - but he sure hasn't stopped. Best know as Tommy Ivo's long time wrench and traveling companion, he also put in a bunch of laps on the "Hot Tuna" Top Fueler. Not a bad driver at all.
