October 27, 1973 at Riverside International Raceway. First place, Formula Vee. It was a supporting event for the Times Grand Prix (Can-Am and IROC) I was able to meet Mark Donahue, and others, since we were pitting with all the racers. I was a kid in the proverbial candy store. To hear the 917-30, in the garages was ear splitting, and glorious all at the same time. Went to Havasu the next year with a young Elliot Forbes-Robinson, he owned a jet bote, but was very talented behind the wheel of most any car.

That shoebox Chevy was, I believe, Gary Kollofski's (I know I am spelling his name wrong) anyway it was a first class Pro-Street ride, and not his first or last.

The IVO Fire Burnout was a color centerfold in HRM, as well.

Same with my dad. He subscribed and saved every issue then boxed them up.
I remember our family towing Arnie Beswick to the starting line then down the drag strip in the station wagon to pick him up and back to his pits back at Cordova Dragway.

I have them in magazine binders up in the loft of my shop. Complete back to around 1980, missing a few back to 1974. Car Craft back to about 1984. I have some stuff from the 50's that were Dads. A couple of the "little Pages" versions..

Years ago I ran the houseboat operation at Echo Bay......a half dozen or so of those flew in for lunch one day. Great airplane!

This one was Grand Champion Seaplane at Oshkosh in 2012- it is beautiful- pics do not do it justice.

I remember that boat, "Big John" I believe they called it, those were the days.

The #105 triple Merc cat was owned by John Merritt -- I got a chance to co-drive it a couple of times in the mid-1960s. We used to test and practice at Pacific Landing (across from Golden Avenue launch ramp) in Long Beach. The hull was a Stylecraft by Earl Palmer. John used to own a Texaco gas station at the corner of Aviation and Century Blvds. just a few blocks from LAX. Went to high school with John's son at Westchester HS.
