So here I sit on a Sunday morning looking for inspiration.

Trying to decide on the graphics for the new boat - I have received John West's concept drawings - I'm checking out old drawings from the last boat - I'm checking RPD for updated pics of the newest boats in Miami this week, please keep those coming!

Checkers - no
Tribal - not
Flames - nope

Leaning towards darker colors - no reds - orange - yellow...

Better pour another cup of coffee...

That's gotta be a fun "problem" to have! I'd love to have this at the top of my weekend chore list.

Keep in mind dark colors get hot in the sun;)silver will get almost as hot as black.

Horizontal lines give sense of length, verticle lines tend to make a boat look shorter,as do spheres, circles, ovals, large wording, etc.

Lines or graphics crossing from deck to hull give greater room for error on the part of the taper and room for error on the part of the sprayer matching color transitions as in most cases with larger boats the deck and hull are shot on different days.

Any color that has clear and/or clear with pearl/flake will be much more costly to repair from road rash, dock dings, etc. Try to stick to solid colors on the running surface, especially where the boat comes into contact with the beach,if you beach.Sticking to solid colors on nonskid or high traffic areas would be a good idea as well.

Many points you make are well taken - that said, I don't always take the most practical route. I am partial to the horizontal line comments about giving the boat length, I will def lean towards that - regarding the colors, my last boat was silver and I now first hand how hot it got - thats what the towels are for on the boat - I always end up sitting on a towel. This boat will have dark colors - Charcoal and black will be the base colors with lime and blue coming into play.

I am counting on the taper/sprayer to make it right with the deck hull match - however I won't have a whole lot of those seems that will need to be matched up. I will also have a painted rub rail and that will help hide any little mis matches.

Regarding matching repairs - thats not an issue that will come into play for me when deciding what I like in a 100 % pleasure toy. The last thing I want is to be wishing I had gone that little extra to make the finished product something special.

Thanks for your thoughts...

I really like the silver/black that is in the middle of your table. What is the green logo in the middle? I really like it. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:D

Silver, black and green must be the start of a new trend? Starting a boat in the morning with those colors, kinda. In place of silver will be a charcoal to gray fade with Ice pearl.

Good luck on your selections,im sure those guys will take care of you no matter what you come up with.:thumbsup

I was kinda messing around with trying to get a little color on the hull sides - I took the idea of a cigarette logo/oval but put the ultra logo inside of it instead then moved it to the middle of the hull instead of the back.

Just brainstorming ideas...

The design is done and they have started spraying as of yesterday - build pics as it moves along.

Love it or hate it this is what we are going with .... I'm on the love it side of course - went for simplicity and elegance with a clean look...

Thanks to John West for his creative pen!

I would not worry about the amout of clear. Butt load is a good description of the amount of clear they sprayed on the running surface of my boat they sprayed last year.

Yours isn't silver metalic, and I didn't say make sure it has XX mils on it as I dont think he has a mil gauge to measure it.
Silver is unlike other gelcoats in that it can not be laid down without clear under the water line. Well,I guess you could but you dont want to know what will happen if you do.

That is just pure class right there:thumbsup. I don't think you will ever have to worry about that looking out dated, nice clean lines - no clown colors, not too over the top.
(just be sure to have plenty of detailing spray handy) Nice!

That has already been addressed - the bildge area is being updated with a diff color, I don't like the way it was done in this pic.

Good call RD

Thats a mold for a clear carbon fiber hatch - we want to save as much weight as possible for the twin 1350 mercs...
