I should have some somewhere, but haven't stumbled on them yet. It's a ski deck Biesemeyer. Bill Duke owned it then. He had it singing, like all of his stuff. I think he sold it to someone in OK. It was a cool OG Biesemeyer with some race history. Jerry probably knows more.

man its just about perfect in my eyes, I dont think i've ever seen it before, shame it left the west coast!

The first time I saw that boat was in Hot Boat mag back in the mid 90’s. It was in the Bay area if memory serves. Like 5 years later, Jeff Gordillo who was Bud Allerton’s nephew aquired it and raced it in Super Stock for a couple years. Bill got it after that and put the PS motor in it and brought it to the riv.

Allen, the king of customer service.

I helped him rack Allens fastners when he 1st went into business across the way from Billy’s place.

He was one of many venders to sell my videos back then. Bobby nick named him Monty first and then Bobby or Billy started calling him the Bolt Nazi.

Ask him to show you his zipper tattoo. Anyway, he was well known to flip customers off and I’m pretty sure it was usually all in good fun.

That was Ron Minegar’s Rayson. The boat was perfection. It was for sale and I would guess it did sell. RCL could give more detail if he hadn’t abandoned us - his only true friends over here on this site.

I’m a hat guy.
Have worn cowboy hats for years.

Actually have spent a lot of time riding and have always enjoyed it.
They are amazing animals, when you get a good one.
If I had grown up in cowboy country instead of V Drive country my lifestyle would be totally different.
There was another guy we all know that told me he was more content on a horse than any raceboat he’d ever driven.
The time I spent with him away from the boat world was pretty special.
Sure miss my old riding buddy!

Awesome pic.. was talking to grich one day and conversation went to horses. He had as much passion and love about horses as he did boats .( probably more ). very cool !

Yes Wyoming.
These pictures were taken at Winn and Pam Phillips ranch outside of Story.
I went with him a few times for a week or so.
It really was like home to him.
As stated, his love for animals was immense and you’d never had known it because of his presence in the racing world.
We hardly talked boats at all on those trips.
When his horse at the Ranch passed, he called me in tears…took him awhile to get over that loss.
I also roomed with him at the NFR a few times. Like me, he loved the Rodeo!
I thought I knew how to Curry a horse fairly well until I rode with Grich.
Toward the end, when his health was getting worse I’d do his horse before and after riding as well.
I still grin when I think about it.
If he started out with “Now Sambo…” I knew I was about to get a lesson!

Grich, widen his lane a bit in the corner???? Naw!!!

I’ve heard both sides of the Grich/ Pettingill crash that happened in the 70’s at Long Beach from each of them.
To say they were both a bit competitive is an understatement.
Grich was famous for getting great clock starts running right down the beach or near the outside and then basically squaring off the corner.
Julian ran down the inside lane and could make a one buoy corner incredibly tight.
After a heat in Long Beach and nearly colliding with Grich, Julian told me he told Grich…“I make my own boats, I can crash them and build another one.
You cut me off in the corner again and I’m going to drive right through you!”
Well those of you that knew Grich can guess what happened in the next heat…yup, Julian drove right over the transom of Grich’s boat and put both of them in the water.

Gordy was such a great guy.
He was best friends with Dick VanBeenan.
They both lived in San Diego and raced Boats together, rode Motorcycles in the desert and Mexico…best buddies.
They used to come to the Lagoon quite often as Dick ran Litchfield’s and the Lagoon here is where all the local flatbottom guys hung out.
Gordy drove one of our Litchfield’s when they came up for the launch day when it was new.

This picture was taken in San Diego in I think 1974.
I was there.
You can’t imagine the crowd reaction back then when these 2 were on the water.
Gordy was the likable California guy driving a Sanger and Julian, super serious, from Arizona driving a boat he built himself and was dominating at the time.
The fans were about 200 to 1 in favor of Gordy because he was the underdog and drove so hard trying to stay with Julian.
It really was a hero vs outlaw type thing.
Thousands of dollars were bet on the beach each race.
Gordy never liked any of that, he was just there to race.
Everyone thought they hated each other but that wasn’t Gordy Sr’s way.
When he was killed in Utah, Julian told me the story.
“Gordy got the jump on me at the start and got through the corner. I was just about even with him on the back straight when I saw this roller in front of us from a boat who had cut the course on the one minute gun.
I lifted but Gordy didn’t. I saw the crash and made a turnaround to get to him.
I was the first one the water and when I held him he was already gone.
There was a discussion on the beach if we should cancel the K heats out of respect. Many didn’t want to…we packed up and left.”
I gained a lot of respect for him after that story.
VanBeenan had just landed in Hawaii for his honeymoon when he got the news.
He never left the airport, got right on the plane and flew home.
RIP Gordy and Julian.

This is Gordy in Sweet Caroline setting the SK Kilo record in Parker.
This was a sore spot for Grich.
He told me he did all the testing on the boat and got it working really well and when it came time to run for the Kilo, they put Gordy in it cause he was a drag racer!

Julian used the same line on Ron Bolton on the ramp at Firebird! Larry was between them and Julian yelled over at Ron not to get in his way or he would run him over! Ron responded with I build my own boat too so don’t get in my way! Larry just shook his head and told me i’m staying away from both of them! Lots of mind games played on the ramp! Ron won that day, lots of good memories, RIP to these great racers.
