Getting a bit more health conscious recently.

I’m not fair skinned, but I’ve already been torched a lot over years and would like to ease that a bit.

Curious about these long sleeve shirts that handle water well and, apparently, don’t overheat you in warm weather.

Any suggestions for brands?

I have a speedo brand short sleeve one that I throw on when my shoulders start to get really red. It’s loose fitting and drys quickly. I like it a lot and make it a point to wear to avoid overexposure

You can also check on products made by the major wetsuit companies (Quicksilver, Rip Curl, etc.). I've had a shirt like that for years and it works well (The few times I've worn it).

Make sure they have spf in the material. They work well, salty crew also makes a few.

Sams Club has them. Was wearing 1 all last weekend. In the water and it dries quickly.

I've got at least a dozen . . . but only wear a couple . . .
it's funny to see how far they've come . . . the early ones felt like you were wearing a plastic bag. 😆
They've gotten a TON better.

The best / newest one I've found is made by Simms. It's their Solar Flex Cooling hoodie.
It's significantly nicer than any other one I have.
Ridiculously comfortable, blocks the sun very well, and fits me perfectly. (lost of them have weird sizing).
You don't know the hood is there when you're not wearing it.
Sleeves are plenty long & have a thumb hole loop if you wanna protect the top of your hand.
Another thing I like is that it comes in subdued mellow colors . . . lots of them make you look like a crayon, or have some dizying / bold pattern.

It's pricey, but Simms stuff lasts.
Oh, and I've stained the crap out of it with fish blood and other grime, and washes right out with a little shout & looks like new.
Tip: - Hang dry them . . . the dryer beatst them up.

Here's a link . . . no affiliation.

If you jump in with it on, it clings like the rest of them.
But sweating, taking splashes over the bow, dipping arms in the water etc. , it's fine.
Dries fast . . . the material has sort of a light 'woven' feel , even though it's not.

West marine has a lot of fishing / water / UV shirts and light weight hoodies.

Good spot to browse around

I hate how tight they are, if you get them so they're comfortable when dry they are uncomfortable in the water

I typically wear t-shirts outside but I wear a long sleeved button down collared shirt (not buttoned up just open) over that to cover up some of the neck, and cover the arms.

When it’s Havasu hot I have this Columbia fishing shirt. SPF in the shirt, super lightweight and if you jump in it dries super fast ( beating the cotton T shirt by a mile).

In Arrowhead it’s not that hot so I just buy some super cheap shirts at Burlington just to have cover and I don’t care if they get trashed. When they do I just toss them.

I have them, quicksilver brand.

Super comfy to wear and really work on sun protection and keeping you cool.

They only suck for the first 15 sec getting out of the water. After that it’s like wearing a normal shirt.

Agrees with surfing brand as well as fishing. I typically forget the shirts and wear a t-shirt. I kind of like the t-shirt better as it holds the water a little longer and keeps me cooler longer as well. The only down side on a regular T-shirt is that it gets a bit heavy once wet.

They had the sun hoddies at the Volcom and Hurly outlets the other day for $20. I don’t swim in them but I wear them all day before and after I swim. Love the hoodie when driving away from the sun when it would normally be beating on the back of my neck!

I don’t like swimming with rash guards so taking the solar hoodie on and off doesn’t bother me and I don’t use a towel just put the hoodie on while I’m still wet it drys quick and keeps me cool.

This is the one I like the most

But I have a couple of the cheep ones like this.

I get them from Free Fly, though I don't go swimming with them. They are great around here in the summer to keep the sun off and not get over heated.

I've got a couple of different ones from Hurley, Quicksilver, and Columbia. I can't say I like one brand better; they all work well.

You'll be good if you stick with the surf/fishing-branded stuff. Just make sure they have an SPF rating. Some of the off-brand ones I looked at didn't list an SPF rating, so I assumed they didn't have any.

I wear a cotton tee shirt and a long sleeve shirt every single day of my life even in 100 temperatures with high humidity.

When I go to the water I wear te same thing and remove my outer shirt when I swim.

My wife bought me several different “swimming shirts” and I hated them all.

I do not like the sun on my skin.

Skin cancer? No thanks….

I use the Columbia PFG with SPF long sleeve shirts. I bought some off brand on Amazon and they were 🗑️.

I have a few RDP long sleeve rash guards and on my trip to Key West I picked up a few, I start the day in a tank and then go long sleeve rash guard.

I had Vinny print me up a bunch of them last year. I wear them every time we shoot. Lightweight and comfortable. Anything to not have more stuff cut off of me.

I pretty much live in Columbia shirts, between work, boating, and hanging out at the house.

I bought a wrong size one, and gave it to the wife, and now she swears by them too. Very comfortable shirts for sure.

Love Free Fly. The bamboo breathes well in heat. Get their lightest weight version. Doesn’t work for swimming. The high rated generic swim shirts on Amazon are great for that.

I also spend pretty much all my time on the lake in a long sleeve SPF shirt. Whenever I get warm I just jump in and the evaporation lasts for a while. I did see one when we were on a boat in Puerto Rico a few weeks back that had a hood as well. Have noticed that I need to be careful with trucker style hats, get burns on the back of my head. Does anyone have one of these hooded long sleeves?

I got mine at REI.

It's been awhile. No clue what they cost these days.

I only use the hooded ones. Try and find ones with draw strings helps keep your hat from blowing off when driving.

I really like the ones made by the Gale Force Twins. They're super light weight and don't get too hot.
