Here is what it costs for a badass Pro R prerunner if you want it pretty loaded not including labor as of pricing 2 years ago.......still less than a race version though.

Can you and Dave lay out a legit cost of these cars? Because there’s a lot of gray matter here.
It’s not that simple.

The speed car was touted as not needing things like cage, doors, gussets, arms, etc, that the majority of sxs owners were adding to the earlier cars to increase reliability and strength. They also promised a stronger chassis and other design improvements to improve durability. Plus the 3-speed transmission, better gauges, speed key, etc.

Cliff notes, compared to 2020 cars and at 2020 pricing, the speed was an easy 10-15k savings over a *equally built and equipped* RZR or can-am.

The latest gen cars have significantly closed the gap- the Polaris R cars do not need arms, or gussets. Cage is arguable depending on use. These improvements on the Polaris offerings coupled with the speed price increases, and today a Speed Car and Pro R are pretty close in price when equally equipped.

Bottom line, if you want to buy a new 72”+ wide SXS from any manufacturer at todays prices and add lights, comms, and other stuff to be able to run it hard- expect to burn $50k on the (very) low end. That’s about what I have in my Turbo R doing only the things I consider to be absolutely necessary and doing all of the work myself.

If you want the same car with a cage, doors, radio, lighting, wheels, tires, seats, more power, etc, and you’re paying a shop to do the work, expect to start at 60 and move closer to 80+ pretty quickly. The 100k build shown above is an extreme example for a play car, but go to Glamis on any holiday weekend there are hundreds of these 100k builds running around.

That’s why so many were willing to take the risk on the speed car when it was $35ish.

I don’t care what manufacturer they are from- with regard to the high performance cars- they should all be treated with Big Boy rules, and having some kind of catastrophic failure during ownership should be expected.

Thank you all for the input. We really liked the look of the Speed and the fact that it was somewhat unique. We were concerned about reliability and with us living 2 1/2 hours from Havasu it didn’t make sense to get one at this time. We were looking at new Pro Rs when this used one came up for sale, so we jumped on it. Picked it up last weekend and we have taken it out in the desert behind our house a few times. So far we are loving it!

I liked Speed 1 & 2 better…..

This ….. Speed 3 has rules and I didn’t start this one ….

LOL

This thread is the car wreck that you can’t stop from looking at. Incredible how much energy goes into the banter. 😁. This thread is already the 3rd most viewed (that hasn’t been deleted). It’s more popular than boats and boobs. Damn, our priorities at F’d up.

I disagree. I don’t think he’s looking for free shit. Guy has more money than he knows what to do with. He doesn’t mind paying for anything he just wants the shit to be turn key. Look at the stacker he just bought, the new dually, the new 5th wheel he pays to have delivered and picked up. He doesn’t need free shit. Me on the other hand… I need some free shit. He’s just loud. Like fuckstickrick… who also doesn’t need any free shit

Ahem..

@RiverDave - you should add a Speed Sxs area to the forum for actual info, technical posts, updates, ride reports, etc. Would suck to moderate it, but I think the content would be better - people taking the time to go to that area and posting threads on specific topics, getting conversation about those topics, etc.

So basically the speed topic is so bad it needs it's own "Government and Politics" section 🤣🤣

I don’t want to win lol. I’m legitimately asking. I don’t know why it’s so hard to get a side by side (no pun intended) comparison on pricing when these first came out.

People compare 2 seaters vs 4 seaters, or fully optioned out SPEEDs vs a barebones RZR in Kentucky etc.

My overall point being is that I remember SPEEDs being 10-15k cheaper than the competition pound for pound. If I’m wrong then never mind .

That discount comes at a cost (no pun intended again lol). So when people hit social media having a hissy fit I don’t understand.
I believe the base model Speeds were $30K and the top model was 35K (but it came with some good stuff). The pricing was comparable to the top models of Polaris and Can Am at that time. The early deposit holders made out because the original idea when Speed was taking those deposits was to stretch a Wilcat XX into a 4 seater and use an existing motor. That idea changed to a ground up design and in theory a much better car then what was originally going to be offered.

If you fully deck out a Speed at the current pricing and fully deck out a top model Pro R or Can Maverick R the pricing will be really close.

This has been my point all along. No one can get the numbers straight because they have an agenda. Not targeted at anyone.

@Bpracing1127 his numbers are different than yours.

Which so be it. I don’t own desert equipment so it doesn’t matter. But no one seems to be able to call a spade a spade.

Look at the last 10 posts lol. There’s 4 different opinions 🤣.

Last I checked you could get these cars for less than what was available at the time. If I’m wrong then so be it. But now my understanding is that these cars were within 1-2k of RZR and CanAm ?

I think it is easier to compare the models as they come. When you start adding in the cost of the aftermarket stuff it varies as some people get better pricing than others and some people install the stuff themselves. If you are paying someone to install stuff the cost goes up big time.

Unfortunately, he has a while to go. Unless, he takes a loss, I don't think he will have much luck selling. My car is in the low 1,800's and they told me hopefully by the end of the year. I'm doubtful!

All true.

But, there Are people who Still want these things out there. So, 🤷‍♂️

The one thing I do know is Pro R swept the top 3 overall (Utv) spots at the Mint this past weekend!! and my Daughter took 3rd in class and 3rd overall (utv’s) she also put down the fastest lap of the entire limited race of Friday that included the class 10 cars. These “golf carts” are getting so freaking fast it’s insane.

My question is what defines a golf cart or side-by-side. They are getting fast the Pro r are fast no doubt about it. They seem to be holding together but here’s the thing are they still as side-by-side you don’t have to wear a helmet anymore and they’re over 1000 cc. at what point are they not a side-by-side or do they continue to be a side-by-side just because they’re mass produced?

I think for comparisons, the turbo razor or the Can-Am or the speed or more alike and all are 1000 CC or less.
If Robbie wants to put a V8 in one of these, I wouldn’t call it as side-by-side anymore. Maybe I just got a different thought process than everybody else I don’t know.

Didn’t they remove the jackal because it’s not really a side-by-side I really don’t know the answer but I remember watching a video a while back.

That fast lap by Sierra stung Ronnie a little. We made sure to rub it in. LOL

Good run by you guys. She was holding pace all day long.
Lol Keatts came up after the race and was telling me the whole race Ronnie and him kept asking each other where’s Romo 😂😂 she was definitely on a good run till she got a flat on the last lap and the gun seized up, luckily there was a course worker right near who was able to help them change the flat. thanks Sean 👍

@hallett21

top of the line is miss leading…. Don’t want to confuse you

Top of the Line Speed cars come with extra accessories not performance items

I believe Speed cars are All have the same motor trans chassis steering shocks
There are 3 different trim levels which adds accessories to the basic car - radios nets graphics seats etc.

a Polaris / Can am didn’t come with that platform, the added trim level added performance with better shocks & more electronics
not quite, the speed base model does not have the internal bypasses shocks, so they are on par with the fox shocks standard on other cars. Some friends and I ordered the base models because Robby wad very adamant and would not make the RG model in any color other than orange. Fuck Orange. For the thousand dollar deposits we put down, it was an easy move right before their first pricing increases. We just planned on keeping these as family cars which usually the wives will drive so we were just going to add seats, radios, air pumpers and be under $35k otd.
speed told us months/years ago to finalize our design and extras orders which we did not do and have not heard back. I would walk away from the $1000 instead of paying the balance on that car if they called me today and it was ready.

I would think a base model at 30k would be easy to get out of. I might even be interested. 😁

When Speed UTV first announced the brand & cars.

The Base Model was $30K for the 2 seat Bandit or Diablo. The Base 4 seat Jefe was $32K. But they did not offer deposits on the base models until much later on.

So what they offered was the LE trim at those same Base model entry level prices. $30K for the Bandit or Diablo. $32K for the Jefe. At the time the upgrades from Base to LE were; custom wrap, carbon seats, roof, beadlock wheels, and 5 point cam lock seatbelts.

Then Speed offered the RG trim. The Bandit & Diablo were $35K and the Jefe was $37K. The additional upgrades above the LE were; suede seats, suede steering wheel, window nets and complete radio & intercom. Also the RG was going to have the signature RG Orange suspension & roll cage, with 2 choices of RG signature wraps.

When the prices of the LE & RG had increased twice, that is when Speed opened up the Base model option for purchase. At the time the Internal bypass shocks were included. Later they removed the bypass shocks, to a standard shock, but anyone who had ordered a Base at the time was locked into get the bypass shocks. Then much later on, Speed decided to eliminate the Base option for now, and those who had already put a deposit on a Base would ultimately be put into a LE trim. It was said the reason for eliminating the base model for the time being is Speed was not ready to build things like the base model seats, seat belts, non beadlock wheels, and they had not sold that many Base trims to justify it at that time.

Ya that’s not good. I will say I’ve had mine open twice on the race car. Once going through the San Felipe whoops and once on the highway when I was towing it on the flat bed trailer. Not sure if I had the throw pin fully in place or not either time.
