This is an unbelievably monumental achievement. the ramifications are massive

Their plan is to be able to turn these boosters around and be able to launch another starship within an hour of landing. They plan to have a handful of boosters that continually service up to 1,000 starship upper stages. The boosters can launch and land within that 15 minute timeframe, but the upper stage takes several orbits of earth to re-align with the texas base for landing.

So you need lots of upper stages to match just a few boosters for continual launches.

One day you might even be able to do Texas to Australia on a Starship, about a 45 minute flight as opposed to 14 hours on a 777. Unreal stuff.

That was simply bad ass.

Unbelievable they can do that.

Doing so restores my faith in the USA.

Hats off to the millennials! They should be proud. What a difference to see the beards and Birkenstocks rather than coke bottle glasses and bad short sleeve/tie combos.

SpaceX is the real deal.

NASA is bed ridden, pants already shit, and they are waiting for the nurse to come clean them up so they can have their morning oatmeal 😆

Honestly, when you hear the ideas he comes up with, you think that is all they are, drug induced delusions. Then suddenly, the day after the FAA finally decided he could try, he catches a supersonic 350 ton 25 story building with a pair of mechanical chopsticks...

Impressive!

I’m a Tesla supporter, If he’s doing this…. I can only imagine what/how much more potential Tesla has, but is being limited by the government, especially now with his support of Trump.

Damn.... I never have seen a video from that angle on any of our rocketry.... thats totally badass. And yup, as for the engine landing in Elons palm? I never doubt that guy.... ever. Im sitting here trying to think of anyone else like the dude right now.... do we even have "Captains of Industry" anymore? Tech had Jobs, Gates and a couple other dorks but tech is still a newer vertical in my eyes. Elon is special.

I am by no means a space geek, but it is amazing to me, the ideas Elon Musk comes up with and builds a team with the right people in the right places to make the ideas happen. It actually makes me hopefully for the future of this country when him and Trump talk about creating a "Government Efficiency" agency. I can't imagine what the guy will come up with.

This development is so underreported.

An absolute pivotal moment in space exploration.

NASA vs SpaceX

Hahahaha………

NASA has just become the poster child for bloat and catatonic bureaucracy.

This statement tracks 100%. I am in the space industry and get to hear a lot more about what's going on than the general public, especially when it comes to NASA's funding issues, etc.

Yesterday morning was HUGE. This just ushered in a completely new dimension in commercial space possibilities.

As long as he cuts more than he adds. It seems like all the government does is become less efficient and bigger as they chase “efficiency.”

I too was blown away by this event. I remember being a boy of 12 or so when Armstrong stepped off the LEM and onto the surface of the moon.
From that day forth I have been a follower of this kinda stuff, and aviation.
Seeing that 250 ft rocket return and slip into the launch structure was unreal. My wife and I watched it several times. In my opinion this should be a lead story in every newscast and teachers should be running it in classrooms.
I am with those who think this is a game changer for spaceflight.

Truth.... If Trump gets another 4 years with Elon freed up to focus on streamlining our government for efficiencies it'll be something to witness in my opinion. Im sure those boys have the bureaucrats shaking in their boots. Its gonna be so tough though... DC machine and lobbies are crazy strong.

MSM as usual downplayed the whole thing. They showed the launch but when they showed the booster return they (I think) showed the last event where it blew up or something because they did not show it actually stick the landing, like the video above showed.

Is MSM still stuck on Nasa or they hate Elon too?

This is awesome!

Selfish bad part of this, more parts being reused on the rocket so less parts for shops like ours to make.

Nope. This is gonna make aerospace explode.

This is monumental.
American greatness on display DESPITE the politicians and fed gov. Interference.

Watch that last video posted.
The fact that the rocket didn’t rip those arms away from the main structure is incredible.
Space exploration has just ignited. The explosion will soon follow.

I think you're missing my point.

SpaceX does farm out some Starship components to vendors. If a part that was previously single use because it fell into the sea and now can be reused multiple times that lowers the demand for that part to the vendor. An increase in launches can off-set that if/when that happens.

I in no way dismissed how incredible this achievement is, exact opposite actually.

No I didn’t miss your point at all.

You work for an areospace contractor. The demand for products with grow exponentially.

I think you are missing the point, would you rather have one order to replace the parts lost on a experimental launch, or multiple orders of multiple parts because they are building more rockets to use that are "proven".

I just saw this tonight on gutfeld. Absolutely amazing. Ca coastal commission should be gutted. These fuckers Bringing personal political opinions into a debate to support reasoning to reject a project, especially one that benefits not just ca or the US but potentially all humankind, should be criminally prosecutable for dereliction of duty or some Shit. minimum these fucktards should be fired. And for real, I care not what nasa or space ex or any one else’s political beliefs are when they’re doing work that has zero to do With politics and that makes America greater and benefits mankind. This blatant targeting, It’s just sickening and sooooooo pathetic. Fuckin whiney little bitches.

Not missing anything.

SpaceX will state their goal for number of launches the next year. I have zero idea of what that number is for Starship, we don’t make any parts for it. Let’s say it’s 10 for arguments sake. Reusing the booster would likely not increase that number, it just makes the cost per launch much cheaper for SpaceX.

You’re equating a cost savings into building more rockets. Will this decrease in cost trickle down to the customers and in turn increase the number of launches? Maybe, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Will there be an increase over time in Starship launches and rockets built? Of course. Will that number be different based on reusing the booster? Probably not but it will cost SpaceX less every time they launch.

It is badass that he pulled this off but at the end of the day it’s process improvement. Which reduces the cost per launch to SpaceX. That does not automatically equate to a reduction in cost to the end user. That’s why I’m saying when you get to end of life of this generation of rocket will the number of launches/rockets built be higher because reusing the booster? Again, probably not.

Competition is what will reduce cost to the end user and increase launches. Blue Origin was supposed to launch in 2024, they missed it. They should be launching early 2025. Bezos is also building his version of Starlink. I’m excited to see the pissing match between Elon and Bezos! Relativity Space had their test launch in 2024, delayed 2 years cause they weren’t ready. If they pull off their goal on manufacturing time to produce a rocket they will be the Wal-Mart of launching satellites. When end users have choices the cost to them will go down.

" The California Coastal Commission has 12 voting members and 3 non-voting members. Six of the voting members are "public members," and six are local elected officials who come from specific coastal districts. All voting members are appointed either by the Governor, Senate Rules Committee, or the Speaker of the Assembly; each appoints four commissioners, two public members and two elected officials. Each Commissioner may appoint an alternate to serve in his or her absence. The Secretaries of the Natural Resources Agency and the State Transportation Agency and the Chair of the State Lands Commission serve as non-voting members and may appoint a designee to serve in their place."

What's interesting is the Anti-Musk bitch --- that Gretchen Newsom is only a Coastal Commission alternate to the environmental hugger Coastal Commissioner Ann Notthoff (Ann Notthoff is a longtime leader in the California environmental movement)
Gretchen's a rising star lefty bureaucrat on the Ocean Beach Town Council and is the political director for my old Sparky Union, District Nine of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, and northern Idaho, as well as in Guam and Saipan) (Keep signing those pension checks, Bro's 😁).

OK, so she's (And probably none of the other members) most likely not voting for Trump. 🤣

About as bad as CARB with all non-elected officials who are picking winners and losers.

I hate sharing stuff on this thread that doesn’t have anything to do with the actual landing. Having said that, this is what is going on with a company that is leading space exploration at a fraction of the cost of Boeing and NASA.
