Bummer to see the struggles, Hope that the rest of your vacation with the family goes well for you all. And for Schiada Brett way to go. 👍 But of course he had the time…..it’s not like he is going to dip his Schiada boat in the water any time soon. 😁 😁 😁

How many miles on your truck? Didn’t you just buy this truck recently? Sorry about your break down. On the 2000 and up Ford had a problem with the fuel senders that showed fuel but the tank was actually empty. I would put five gallons of gas on road calls and if the car started we knew we had a bad fuel sender. Hope for a quick fix to get you back on the road

Maybe you can submit the receipt to AAA for reimbursement?

I haven't used Motorcycle / RV coverage in years even though I've had it for 30 years.

They once towed my dually and boat 40+ miles to get me to a real shop near Fresno.

They no longer provide the 100 or 150 mi tows from what I understand but they will cover $500?

Was just going to say the same thing. Contact AAA and submit your receipt for reimbursement- it's only $500 but something is better than nothing. I went through this same situation and was able to get reimbursed.

I also played around with Google. Not much to find on a failed fuel pump except for longer cranking startup after sitting a week or so.

Lets hope this is one and done.

If its any consolation my Class C motorhome has ruined just as many trips and successful ones. The last failure was electrical and after that was sorted I parked it and haven't touched it sense. Can't blame all the issues on Ford either. We've been towed a dozen times over the years. AAA just washes their hands if the issue it to difficult and we have the Premier extended studio mix dance version. They still don't care.

So far the only problem I've had with AAA was in BHC. My phone was hitting a CA tower and they couldn't understand why we needed a tow in AZ. Then they freaked out was a lifted Suburban and a boat. Ended up ubering to get my truck for the boat so they could have just one task.

Glad you’re mostly sorted out. I found out that the 800 AAA roadside service number is only good in the state you reside in. It took me 20 minutes to get to hold of a real person then they tell me I need to call AAA Arizona when my boat trailer brakes locked up. I do have the RV / Premier coverage, but they won’t take the trailer with the boat on it. I told them that if the boat wasn’t on the trailer I could take care of it myself. Sorry sir, maybe see if a local towing company will help you. F these guys - I found a local place in Havasu that was able to load the trailer with the boat onto a flatbed trailer, just barely. $1500 later we made it home. At 7:30 on a Friday evening I didn’t know of any places in Parker or Havasu that would be open on a Saturday so we towed it home - I wasn’t going to leave the boat in the Safeway parking lot in Parker. I only got reimbursed $700 of the $1500 back from AAA. And don’t request a tow from their app - that’s another story for another time.

I was about to get AAA, glad I read this, screw them. Glad to see you got everything sorted out.

AAA is worth its weight in gold…. So long as you’re in a well populated area serviced by multiple AAA contracted tow companies. In the middle of nowhere and you’ll be waiting a very long time. AAA calls pay the lowest of the low, and they just aren’t worth it to a lot of tow companies.

I’m going to submit the truck and trailer tow to AAA.

Then I’m going to submit rental to Ford. If they deny that I’m going to loose my shit.

I think I’m SOL on the trailer tow to the campground. Which is fine. I can take that on the chin.

I lost my shit when they denied my rental on my 2020 Explorer when the tranny took a crap. They said Ford doesn't cover rentals anymore. 6 months for fighting Ford Care, they gave me a Ford Debit card FINALLY with the balance. It was painful.

AAA doesn't tow people. They just use vendors in the area you're in.

When you're your in the middle of nowhere, well, you can't expect a whole lot!

Id never be without a AAA card. Just being able to avoid the DMV, in most cases, is worth the price of admission.

Awful way to start a vacation.

So much fun
Followed along with your nightmare, just hoping you could get a break here!

Who rented a vehicle to you that shit the bed? And it cost you money? That's not gonna go over very well.

Guess so. I bough a gasser because I didn’t want to deal with diesel fuel pump failure. And here I am.
I've put brand new parts on cars that were bad, it happens. Next fuel pump might go 200k

Time for the L5P baby. You’ll never be happier. If you want to save some $$$, the L8T is also awesome. I have both.

It's talked about a lot but most of the failures come from not replacing filters. I did mine every 10k miles, plus I deleted mine. Sold with 63k miles on it and never had an issue.

Glad you got things squared away. With todays truckers you dont want to hang out on the shoulder. On the plus side if it was a Dodge at 18k miles youd be through at least one trans and some ball joints :)

Shit, guess Ill get a spare pump and toss it in the truck. 250 miles to go to finish break-in.

Enterprise. Here is my reservation for a wholly grail. I show up and they gave me a POS Nissan Rogue. Now I have a Nissan on Altima. Bet your ass I’m gonna rally that bitch going to the lava tubes this week.

AAA, Ford and I will be hashing this shit out when I get home. For now fun with the family.

Man I love my truck. I was patting the dash telling my truck how much I loved it right before it died lol. I was getting 9mpg at 65mph. Passing everyone on each hill we came across.

Brett is good people, he has helped me out a time or two. And his Schiada is one that doesn’t gather no dust sitting on the trailer. He uses his boat, whether it’s Havasu, Parker, Mead, and even in the big blue. Although last time I stopped by he was working on it but definitely not afraid to use it!!
And CLdrinker, the worst day of a vacation is still better than the best day at work 😉. Sounds like you are well on your way to getting things sorted 👍🏻. Enjoy the rest of your trip/vacation/family time.

Lava tube tips: Bring headlamp-style flashlights, so your hands are free. The first 30% is somewhat rugged climbing, so good shoes are important…flip flops would be a struggle. Bring some water in a backpack. Lite gloves, you’ll be climbing over rocks for the first 20-30 minutes. It does open up, and get wide and flat, easy walking. Towards the end, the ceiling gets much higher, and the tube divides into two paths.

Bring a couple extra flashlights with new batteries, Just in case. Age group while we did it was 5-75, but you will be challenged physically and mentally at times. Its an awesome experience. Remember, you still have to walk back out in the direction you came from.

If you have a chance, turn off all your flashlights. Crazy what total blackness looks like. 😉

Enjoy

@CLdrinker …if you have no way of getting your trailer home from Flagstaff give me a shout. I have a good friend that lives there and he might be able to help out (if he’s in town). Sold dude with a truck/trucks that can tow your rig and maybe even store it at his house until you sort out your truck.
