I had to borrow a ladder a few weeks ago because mine was at my shop and I was drinkin pretty good when all of a sudden all of the fire alarms decided they wanted to go off for no reason in my house.. so I bribed a local driver in town to bring me a ladder and 9volt batteries..

That night I went to bed and woke up thinking maybe I fell in a small cactus when I woke up because of all these things poking me.. lol.

The ladder is a fiberglass sided ladder. I don’t know who thought these things are a good idea but they are fucking horrible..

Well I needed to clean and lube the slides on my motorhome and the person that brought the ladder said keep it, they didn’t want it back.

So I carry this thing outside today and I use it.. well sure as shit my hands are getting poked after I put it away, my fire arms etc..

So I wash my hands pretty good in my garage sink and dry them off with paper towels.. I’m sweating like a whore in church because it’s hot af outside.. instinctively I take the same paper towel and wipe my head and my face with it..

How do ya think that turned out.. hence sometimes I do stupid shit.. this is misery. Lol

Hottest water you can handle on all exposed areas while scrubbing then immediately to cold. The heat opens the pores up and when the cold hits them it squeezes out the fiberglass and washes off.
This has been the best remedy I have found and less hair loss than duct tape 😂
Oh and treat that ladder to a coat of resin and it will be good for another year in the sun.

Dumb Ass😂

That’s the feeling of making money in “the industry”.

Coat yourself in “Johnson’s” baby powder before you do shot like that.

I suggest it to all the new hires.

Baby powder fills the pores of your skin
Glass won’t get in there.

We'd load units of some fiberglass encased gypsum board demon spawn on roof decks. Sweating like pigs, and miserable. My wife's face scrub was the only thing that would pull the glass from my arms in the shower.

At least this was just a one time stupid thing...
I did stupid things on the "professional" level:oops:

As a season citizen who fell almost six feet off a ladder landing on my back (a while back sober) I'd question the wisdom of ladder "climbing under the influence" (CUI) 🪜+🍺 = 🚑
It's only an issue if you fall🤣

Fiberglass ladders are fine unless left outside to bake in the sun. Then they do as you describe. FYI, they are non conductive for electricians.
Yeah the sun will eventually pretty much destroy anything left out in its path.

When I worked for TPD trailers we would router the edges of the FRP. Was bad when it was cold, but was absolutely horrible in 110* heat.

Ice cold shower to close the pores then hot as you can stand to open them to get whats alreadyinbedded. Then back to cold to hopefully squeeze the rest out.

Yeah f that!!

If you bribed him to bring you a ladder and batteries, why didn't slip him another $50 to finish the job?

… Left my fiberglass, 6 foot ladder, leaning up next to my Lance camper, which I had been doing some major repairs on in my front yard… well of course somebody walking down the sidewalk, decided to take it home with them… but they were nice enough to leave the two shorter aluminum ladders… wonder if they were electricians???👍🤷🏽‍♀️

Last summer i decided to move my fiberglass ladder.

little did i know, there’s was a giant wasp nest under the bottom rung.

I ran like hell and jumped straight into the pool.

Fuckers stung the back of my knees about a half-dozen times…first time i’ve ever been stung in my life.

so my fiberglass ladder story has nothing to do with fiberglass 😂

Being the very experienced home owner with our 3rd house with a pool, I also once “hugged” our Havasu pool filter dome as I removed it. Not good! Next time the filter servicing was due, I hired a local young guy. Doubt if he ever owned a home. Lol. (Like WTF difference does that make?) First thing he did was throw a blanket over that Havasu sun baked and weathered fiber glass dome. He saw me smile and asked, Is there something wrong? I said No, you’re doing great. I didn’t. LOL

Fiberglass is non-conductive and designed primarily for electrician use however marketed to everybody. They can be heavy depending on their rating.
When they get old they really suck.

I can just picture RD with a cig in his mouth, beer in the left hand, up about 10', trying like hell to get that old 9v out of there. 😁

I buy Harbor freight moving blankets and sacrifice those constantly. $5 is always worth it.

Be wary of old fiberglass handled shovels and other long handle tools as well.

I just cut up about 6 24’ and longer extension ladders with a saws all because of the same reason. Got real tired of getting poked and scratched after using them. Retail on those was about $2400

And what's the deal with all of the fire alarms being connected to each other? If one goes off they all go off. Ugh
I had the same thing happened a few weeks ago at 2:00AM. Not only did I have to use my 9' ladder to access some of the alarms, but I had to get my extension ladder for this stupid alarm.😡

Let the area dry from sweat and use an air gun from a compressor to blow off the skin. I do this regularly.

Using compressed air to blow off your body/skin is a violation of OSHA regulations. Just an FYI. 🤣
