So, those of you who live where winter is seriously cold.... What do you do all winter?

I mean, there's snow on the ground. It's cold. It's windy.

I assume you can do snow sports a few times. But then what? Do you have shop to work on projects? Remodel the bathroom?

Ice fishing sounds like I could do that for an hour. Doing fishtails in the car sounds fun. I see all the snowbirds escape to southern climes
maybe that's the key?

Pardon the ignorance of a So Cal kid. If I have to wear long pants I get depressed.

I grew up on a lake that froze over. I would snowmobile all winter and snowboard. Both are great ways to pass the winter. When I was younger we would switch from pickup football to ice hockey.

This is for much younger vets correct ?
I mean, as a vet from the late 60's, living in Flag trying desperately to find those rare oxygen molecules at 7K feet and re-suffering the pain of every childhood or battle injury during the long cold winters, forces me to ask ---- do these vets come here voluntarily or are they trucked in on Deuce and a half's ?? ๐Ÿ˜ณ
Perhaps some are trying to relive their Korean War POW experiences
Yes, I know, the summers months are gorgeous. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

Born and raised in northern illinois
Did the ice fishing and snowmobiling and donuts in the snow.
Skitching=hanging on to rear bumper of car to see who could go the fastest on their feet on snowy road. I win at 60 mph:p
Our boat would be in storage now until next april.
Screw that cold and snow

I did school in Toronto and stayed seven years. You get used to the cold. It wasn't too bad, but wouldn't do it again. Still played with my dogs outside and went on hikes, etc. I snow ski, so snow in the mountains where it belongs is good.

Snow ski every weekend, inside or outside project (it's not snowy and frigid everyday in colorado, most days are sunny and sometimes mild), or hang out and do projects in heated garage

Winter is my time to complete interior house projects, and in my free time I do wood working. This year I'm turning our formal living room into two rooms, an office and a butlers pantry/bar area connected to our pool room. Once that is done I'm remodeling our guest bathroom, then new flooring in the master bath. Oh and then building a crib and changing table for our first grand baby. Should be able to stretch that out to April when the baby is due.

Well that accounts for almost a month...

What about the other five months? One can only watch so much Porn, right?

๐Ÿ˜

Well I still go to work, although I would be in incredible shape if I did go ride that many days in a row.

Grew up in Milwaukee. Snowball fights, ice skating, sledding, snow forts, would shovel the basketball court across the street and play when above 40ish. When it's real cold just stay inside. Kind of like Havasu when it's 115, stay inside. Milwaukee had a very large public transportation via buses. Until they stopped due to snow, school was in session, typically more than 10".
I thought that's the way of the world until joining the Navy and get stationed in San Diego. I swore never to move back to the mid-west, and here I am in Ohio.

Man, that's beautiful.

I DH ski 4-6 times a month from December through March, XC ski with the dog 3-5 days a week when there's snow, and ride a fat tire bike when there's not. And I always hit the gym more regularily in the winter, too. Typically tackle a big house or motorhead project. I try to avoid any big projects between Memorial Day and Labor Day if at all possible because that's the primo boating season. We also always do a full week and at least one long weekend skiing someplace in the Rockies. And of course watching the Packers and drinking beer. Honestly, if you have the correct outdoor gear you can easily operate when it's cold out. My son and I have had many great days skiing in the U.P. with temps in the -5ยฐ to -10ยฐ range. It keeps the posers away. And the air get SUPER clean in those conditions, so clean you can feel it. But, if it's really windy it can get uncomfortable fast.

I don't live in the serious cold. When in the 30s and 40s, I work in the shop on stuff. I think it depends on what your good weather hobbies are. In the late 80s I was watching some IHRA Pro Mod stuff...800 cubic inch door slammers. That's when I realized farmers get bored during winter.

They say it's only cold between the car and the bar. But living in a small town I can tell you it's cold all the way home. lol
There was an ice rink just down the street from my house. Practically lived there as a kid. I used to sit in my mom's basement reading skateboarder magazine and knew where I was going as soon as I could. lol I bought my first car and was gone!

Kids like to ski. Not happening this season though. Sledding, ripping their quads around in the snow, getting pulled on their sleds by the rzr., snow forts, snowball fights.
Living at 8500ft i do alot of shoveling, plowing, splitting/moving firewood, drinking and keeping the fire going.
Garage and house projects that got neglected through the summer.

Quads in the snow are a blast.

๐Ÿ‘
We dig it. The whole family did an oval, bare tire ice race a couple years ago. Kids on there lt50s. Wife ran beginner on her z400. I road her bike in the amateur class. Was a blast. Would have been even better with studs. Next time....
