Can you imagine doing this is the late 60's-70's in a flat !!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone would be totally beat up.

Mike:cool::cool::cool:
Did it twice in my XH-511 Hondo, #197Pass'n Gas. Fuel was the biggest concern...(2) plastic fuel jugs solved that problem except for the need to stop for the re-fueling chore. I believe we podiumed in the Novice class.

RU thinking of Glen Gill? He later went to a larger boat but kept the same paint scheme.

no Glens was yellow and black, this one was orange with black. I will have to find some old pictures from sanction races to see if I can get his number

It was Ron Carter and his boat number was 406. He also ran the Rayson Craft flatty at the Ana Capa (Oxnard) Ski Race (always rougher water than Catalina). Passed him one year going out to Ana Capa Island, he was stopped (had swamped the boat) -- he and his observer were bailing like mad. I was going to stop but he waved me on. I think he used to live in the west L.A. area -- Culver City if I'm not mistaken.

I would love to see some pics of that! :thumbsup

Great pics. Thanks!

How did the boat run? Was it rigged by Schiada or someone else?

-Justin

The boat was a marginal 90mph when I had it with the cable steering. The guy that bought it put tighter (hydraulic) steering on it and says it's a comfortable 95+mph now. I still see it once in a while around So. Cal freeways and even Parker once or twice.

There was a guy named Bob I think who pulled Cory Cook for several years in a white and blue Vector with an outdrive. Or so I recall-memory ain't perfect...

I remember telling someone back then that Cory Cook and Kirk Book should go do the bridge race behind a boat they should name "Cookin and Bookin". Man those two were fast.

Bob Nixon in #714 "Long Gone". He had a 21 Schiada at first white w/blue stripes, then the Vector. He sold the Schiada to Steve Crews at the river. The Vector was sold to Tommy Ramirez and then to Steve ... in Vegas. It is for sale again. Bob now has a 43 Outerlimits.

Is he still alive?

He should of been dead several times(Most on a bicycle) I think he has 9 lives.:D

Still around. Still skiing. Still bicycling. Got some new metal in me from the last creaming by a car though, it should be over 4 pounds of pins, joints, and plates now. I can still float though.

Remember Dick's Memorial, where Steve spoke of being a novice skier and Dick asking him what he wanted to do. He said win...then held on for life.

That's definitely it!!! So many amazing memories with that boat and in the flatbottom class. Well done on the quick response Ryan. My Dad owned it and I skied behind hi in the circle races. How's it doing these days do you know?

I'm pretty sure I saw it racing at Parker within the last year. There's photos of it running somewhere on this forum or PB...

Yo Wheeler, IF you're not too attached to this particular article, can I have it ? I'm still in touch with Norm & Peggy Wilson, I'll frame it up an give it to them.

Budget Buster Larry Dahlhoff my wife could not remember the boat manufacturer. Maybe a Sanger? Maybe #93?

Super Snail 18 foot Schiada #98 rigged by Larry and his Dad Dean in their garage including polishing all the aluminum!

Pop’s Toy 18 foot Spitfire K18 Bob Lovelace pulled his brother in law Don Vilander at Long Beach Marine Stadium barefoot ski race behind the K18!

Leroy Schneider also had one Named Bad Boys too.
My wife worked for Leroy for close to 15 years.
Every time he would see us in Havasu on the water during the week he would also ask my wife, " Aren't you supposed to be at work making me money? "
My wife always replied, " Maybe, but you should look at it like your paying to keep my mouth shut about what you do on your boat! :
He always laughed and said " Sounds like a fair investment! " :D
