Wheres the best place to look for a used cart? Is it craigslist? Or is there some other good secret site? I'm thinking about getting a cart for camping this season. Only problem is, I want a baller cart on a broke ass budget, so I need to find a great deal on one.

Craigslist is where I'd go. They are pretty cheaply priced these days now that SXS are all the rage. If you share your budget for the cart, you might get some suggestions for carts in here....

Look on Craigslist and find the guy but there is a guy in Carbon Canyon in China Hills. Junior's it is. It's not the same Junior's in Brea. The guy works in the golf course industry and gets a line on when the nice courses replace theres and buys up the old ones. At my last job I bought a Yamaha that was from swank joint out in Palm Springs. It was a new model, looked real nice and was around a couple grand. Can't remember all the details but it was a great deal.

Total budget is $4k to $6k, but that $6k is for a cart that is 100% of what I want. I'm figuring whatever I get I'll have to spend some money on to get to be what I want. And in reality would rather spend around $4k. I think I want a limo cart, but a friend is talking me out of it and suggesting I stay with a regular 4 passenger cart. So here's my dream list...

6 passenger gas cart with California plates or green sticker
lifted with long travel front end
big tires with black wheels
white
nice interior
seat belts
whip
goes fast

with that budget you could get a rhino and you would be happier in the end

I've been thinking about that but we decided to go wit ha golf cart first. Our boys love the short rides on the carts and we like cruising around camp. Wit ha golf cart, we can also take it with us to the summer camping park locations that won't allow a Rhino. And, its too difficult to fit a full grown adult in the back of a Rhino comfortably.

Does anyone here take an electric cart out camping in the desert? Curious how they do on the dirt and if you end up having to charge them or not. Am I better off to just go with a gas cart? Also, for the carts with the larger 20+ HP motors, do they work the same as a regular cart and you just jump in and step on the gas or do you have to turn a key and crank the motor to go?

Craigslist.

My understanding is that the DMV wont grant any new plates gas golf carts even if meet the requirements, and from what I've observed GGCs that are already CA SL cost more, than their Non-CA legal or AZ SL counterparts.

I was told that if you want a limo style cart, to buy one new from a dealer. This way you know you are getting a true limo cart, and not one that has been cut and stretched. Ironically Premier in Havasu told me this :rolleyes but after think about it... it does make sense. At the time I wanted a 6 passenger, but due to storage space I talked myself back into a 4 seater.

I've been seriously looking for 2 years, and have found some great deals, but timing is everything and work really wouldn't approve of me taking off in the middle of the day to drive out to BFE to check out a golf cart that I saw on CL, which I shouldn't have been looking at in the 1st place.

Is there a downside of cutting and stretching a cart? I've also thought about just getting a 4 seater and if I decide later I can always stretch it.

you can build a SICK cart for 6k ! I've done a bunch of them. a nice newer cart should run 1200-2000 MAX. then start getting your lift's, Wheels/Tires, rear seat, ETC. Get on your smartphone or tablet and get the Craigslist Pro App. Can search all your selected cities for what your looking for.... piece of cake.

I have a cut and stretched electric limo cart. It works fine. The builder added some side supports to the body to help stiffen it up. It doesn't have four wheel brakes though. I think original limo carts do. This one is 48Volts. We bought it mostly for the kids to run around in at the Islander.

Its been a lot of fun. I put a Plum Quick motor in it, and it gets to around 22 mph, according to the GPS on my phone.

Like everything that's been modified it depends on who did it, how it was done, and how is it holding up?

I totally disagree. I have a golf cart and just got rid of our sxs. There is something about jumping on a golf cart and just cruising that is hard to replace. Cruising in a sxs always ends with your foot on the floor.

Carts are a cake walk. I used to build them and ship all across the country. I'm gonna start another real soon for next River season. You do have to ask yourself how it will be used. If its a camp ground cruiser, hard to beat the electric cars! Can make them INSANE fast, and the are funner cause the motor doesnt drown out the stereo. Wonder who now has the Ole green Limo cart we built. Roz designed the sub woofer encloser. Had it built from 1/2 clear plexi-glass, and was back lit with green LED's.....heard it still cruising around Hidden Shores in Yuma. The limo wasnt really as fun as a Std length car...too long and heavy. Was a big bus.
Think were doing the newer Ez or Club Std length 4 seater, With mid power motor and controller. Enough to launch a decent size Ski trailer. HUGE stereo :)

So looking at pricing online for building this myself...

Looks like a long travel lift wheels and tires are about $1500
Back seat flip seat is $380
Seat belts will run $300 for both sets
Then need to find a place to have custom seats made. Maybe $500?
And paint looks like around $500 for a cool paint job.

So now I just need to find a place to get a newer ez go rxv for a good price for a donor cart to start with.

That's a nice looking cart but I'd need to get it for around $3500 to have it work for me. I'd want to paint it and change the wheels.

If you have any ambition to get anywhere in somewhat of a hurry with 4 people onboard, the stock gas motors on most carts aren't much fun with a lift kit and accessories and 4 bodies weighing them down.

There is a badass cart forum. The only problem is full on non-cart related topics and a lot of pissing matches:p

Those are all great things that I want but are not high priority if I end up building a cart.

Thought you were looking for a 6-pass?

Trying to find the most I can get. I think I could stretch this one. Its gas and has the right lift and is plated.

Was contemplating the same close scenario, but it seems the stretched models have a larger H.P engine which I can understand. Not sure the additional cost that would entail....worth it not to have a slug.

Still shopping for a cart. If I can't find one that has a license plate for a good deal, I'm going to wait until I can find a gas EZ GO RXV with the Kawasaki 13hp motor. Test drove a couple carts at Rainbow carts. They were nice, but priced above what I'd like to pay. The sales guy said that they don't negotiate on prices. So, now I just need to either find a great license plated cart...or a smokin deal on a gas RXV cart that I can build out myself.

so I've narrowed down what I'm looking for. I want to get a California street legal gas golf cart that already has plates. they are a bit harder to find, but they do exist. I was ready to pick one up last night and even test drove it the night before. Then the owners decided yesterday afternoon that they no longer wanted to sell it. that sucked. it was a nice cart with a 24hp Honda v-twin in it too. It was close to perfect for what we wanted. So, does anyone have a street legal gas cart they want to sell?
