Heck yes! I feel the same way... but I know they typically take up dang near all of the cove parking at the Nautical - just means we gotta be faster at reserving. [emoji1360]

Just a guess, but Howard has been doing their regatta that weekend for several years and I'm sure they have seniority when it comes to room blocks and cove parking. That being said, I think we can still have it that weekend. Plenty of river and lake for both groups.

Edit: and they are an "official" regatta verses our "unofficial" regatta if that matters at all

Yea, we should probably reconsider having it the same weekend. From what I was told right now by the Nautical, Howard has not signed a contract with them yet, but as soon as they do, they pull priority on slips and beach.

Not sure if any of you have stayed at the Nautical during a regatta, but they typically take over the place, and parking for the rest of the guests becomes a real issue

Do we need shirts?

Regatta Mock.jpg

(Of course. I would need permission to use the logo and an Illustrator file of it)

Yes we need shirts. Was gonna hit up RD's guy, but was waiting for Vic to send me the number.

Cool design dude.. I'd ask how to do that, but I feel like I would never understand. HAHAH

That's just the first mock up in Photoshop. I want to make their logo larger across the top but need their vector file (that's the tiny jpg from the website. It's four colors which should not be too expensive to print, and I can change the blue to the gray for three colors if the price is better. Give me feedback on the fonts, wording and placement/spacing and I will build a final in Illustrator.

The date doesn't have to go on it, I just stuck the TBD on their to be a smartass.

I will check with a friend of mine who participates in the Howard regattas, but I seem to remember that they maybe had 30ish boats? If there is a problem getting rooms, isn't there other hotels to stay at? What about in the channel? And don't those places have slips available? These are honest questions, as we always stay at our house in Bullhead and don't really have a pulse on what happens in Havasu...

And for the T shirts, that design looks really good. Maybe change the boat on the t shirt to RDMRob's boat that made the cover of this year's Speedboat Magazine's march issue? It's up to you...

30+ boats will fill them up pretty quick...

As far as other hotels, sure. There's HEAT, London Bridge Resort, or off the water is endless. With that said, the LBR is the only one that offers overnight boat parking on the water (Unless you slip at the marina)

I'm thinking we switch the weekend to 9/8/17. I understand it is the weekend after Labor Day, but I have never heard anyone complain going to the lake two weeks in a row. :) If we chance pushing this to the end of the month, weather (wind in particular) gets too dicey and chances of having a blown out lake gets very high.

Trying to coordinate this get-together at Pirates, Topock or the Springs without knowing what Howard has planned creates a logistics problem for us. With the size of the group that we already have tentatively put together, our ability to section off an area for lunch gets very small at most of those places if we happen to overlap with Howard. With that said, I think it's best we change the dates.

I have a call into the group sales lady at The Nautical to get a block of rooms, but if you guys don't want to stay there that is cool too. I will be staying there regardless, and it's always a cool night vibe for walking around checking out boats over a couple soda pops, so I wanted to throw it out there for all of you. At this point I will plan on snatching up 15 rooms (I have no clue how many of you will stay there, but don't want them to sell out)

So as rvrrun said, the date is TBD, but I think it's best we push it away from the 15th to avoid conflicts with the Howard festivities.

If you're completely opposed to the 8th, let me know and we will get a feel for how many can't do the weekend after Labor Day, and make a decision from there. Fair enough? This is a fluid plan, and I am still open to suggestions, but if we don't have a huge pushback on the weekend of the 8th, I say we pencil that in.

Oh and by the way.... RDMRob's boat is a stunner!! But, I know why rvrrun picked the one he did ;)

I setup an email account that I will monitor for the get-together if you guys want to direct questions or anything to the email, it might be easier. Plus I will send out updates on there, too, for the people not on RDP.

If you're making a distribution list for updates that arent in here mine is [email protected]

As for the weekend after labor day, that'll be a much harder weekend for me to make work. getting time off work 2 weeks in a row is tougher for me. But I'm only one person and I'll try to make whatever date work!

Also, last summer I got these domain names randomly. Maybe I'll have to set something up with one haha

I think the first draft of the shirt is great! We definitely need shirts. On a lot of the regatta shirts I have seen in the past by other manufacturers they have a couple of different models on the shirt. The 22 deck is a hot item right now and Probably Bob's best seller so that along with a tremor might not be a bad idea.

I'm not going to pretend that there were no ulterior motives for picking that boat. But mainly picked it because I have a high res 3/4 shot of it from which to make the vector art. I was thinking that on the back, and something small and simple on the front (I'll do that after work today if my wife does not have honey-do's).

For me personally, two weeks in a row for my family is near impossible. We like to go to Labor Day because of the 3 day weekend and we usually have a bunch of people come with us. However, if the group decides to have the regatta the following weekend, then we will skip Labor Day weekend and come to the regatta instead. Whatever the group decides is good with me

Here's a quickie for the front of the shirt...

Regatta Mock Front.jpg

It might be cost preventative for two side printing, I'll have to look into it.

For whatever its worth, Shockwave might be able to help get deals at London Bridge Resort. They give you a voucher for free rooms when you purchase a boat from Shockwave. Could be an option if it comes down to that.

What's the latest info on picking a weekend?

I didn't get any complete objections to the weekend of the 8th, so that is what I'm planning around.

I have a quote from one t-shirt guy, still have to call 2 others, then I'll be able to put pricing together.

Have a few calls into sells at Nautical but no returned call.

I also tried Pirates but no answer so I need to follow up on that. I will also check on Topock 66.

Depending on pricing/ availability, we can decide which better suits everyone for lunch on Saturday.

That's all I have at this point. Sorry not much change from last week.

Cool - Let me know!

Was planning to go out Saturday, but the wife made plans for Long Beach Grand Prix without me thinking about dates, so I'm out.

Sounds good. I'll plan on Sept 8th. I will be out there Easter weekend and can talk to management at Pirates and Topock if you haven't heard back by then to see what they can do for us, if anything.

You and me both brother. Haven't been in there in years because I don't want to suck crap up. I'm shooting for Pirates, but someone mentioned Topock so I will at least look into it.

Yup. I scratched my skag once in there and don't wanna go back.

On a side note, if anyone needs, I maybe be able to store a couple boats in my yard if anyone needs/wants. It's fenced in and secure.

I was on the water Wednesday but then the rest of the week was blown out, so the wife and I bailed and headed home. I'll be back out Easter weekend and plan on being on the water Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you see me out on the water, flag me down

My wife and I are heading up to Havasu next weekend, 4/28-5/1, for our anniversary, but while we're up I am gonna hit The Nautical, Pirates and The Springs.

Do you guys have any specific questions you need me to address?

I am going to talk to the management at Topock this weekend to see what, if anything, they can do for the unofficial regatta for an "unofficial" breakfast or lunch meetup. I guess the plan right now is for 30ish boats??? I know that they have a limited number of slips available, and I am hoping that having this the weekend after Labor Day weekend, that they shouldn't be that busy.

So, what are some things that I should talk to them about? (example, reserved slips for Shockwaves for the time period that we will be there, roped off area in the restaurant/patio for the group, maybe a discount on food/drinks for the group, etc...)

I have never done this before, so any input from people who have set up group runs/meetups would be great. Thanks in advance

I'm thinking that sounds perfect. They are definitely limited so we'll have to see how they feel about accommodating that large of a group. I'd say 30 boats sounds pretty close to accurate. Assuming an average of 3 people per boat, that's 90 people, which might also be a problem unless they set up an area around the pool just for us. Thanks again BigMike, really appreciate the help and the offer. [emoji1360][emoji1360]

I'll respond on Facebook too so the non-RDP'ers see too.

FYI...I was at the Halletts to Havasu last year that Hammer put on. On Sat. Everyone went down to Havasu Springs for breakfast. They have a new banquet room above the outer harbor bar and they put on a nice buffet breakfast. Plenty of slips available and seated about 60 people with a bar. I think they had a set price. Hammer would know more.

That would be perfect. I think the plan is to meet up at the Springs for breakfast on Sunday and then go to the channel or somewhere after. I'll let SBarry handle that when he goes out there in a couple weeks
