There was a great interview a while back with schiadaStan about the vector. It was very cool and, if I remember correctly, I believe according to Stan, the vector has The same bottom as the 21 Rc, With some subtle changes made. I’d say you’d need Both boats to be identically rigged, with identical power, to make a fair assessment.

Did Hallett build any V-drive Vectors in house? Or were they all blank hulls that someone else built? The GT boats are nice, anything Priime or Mike King built is pretty nice. In my mind though having a Schiada rigged by Stan and whoever is working there at the time, is pretty hard to beat. Stan knows what works and what doesn’t. Lee is the best at setting plates on his boats and picking props, not to say there aren’t other people that can do all that, but that’s why buying a Schiada built and set up by Schiada is worth all the money. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I love them both even though I have an RC. Way back I was always told the Schiada is better as a Vdrive and the Vector is better as an I/O hence, the reason you see a lot of old-school vector ski race rigs with Speedmasters. I don't know if this is true or not. Mike King would be the guy to comment. I've seen an all red vdrive Vector with white interior that i f in luv. I know Bergeron rigged up at least one vector years ago as a vdrive and there was a guy that worked at Nordic quite some time ago can't remember his name that rigged 2 vdrive Vectors. I only saw the blue one being worked on in person.

Let's ask this.
If both boats were built with identical power and setups what hull would you buy?

Pretty sure a Vector is faster hp for hp but a Schiada will ride smoother in the snotty water.

Schiada is V bottom and a Vector is “delta” keel.

Interesting debate, but you also need to consider boats are built for different purposes. Personally, I have driven a number of Schiadas, Halletts and even at least one 21' Rayson with big power, both turbo and blown. When I changed my Schiada from blown to turbo everyone wanted to know what the difference was. My honest answer was that both were running different levels of boost, so there was no direct comparison.

Such a pretty boat and so nicely rigged, Eye of the Tiger handles a lot better. I’m not a fan of the external rudder at all. Owning that one and Eye of the Tiger, there’s no comparison imo.
Hmm, I drove a Schiada once at Lake Mead with external steering that amazed me.

I guess we all have our individual experiences with all the different set ups.

Mike King, Gary Teague, Steve Stenton, Bill Dunsmore have all built one off Schiadas that rival or exceed anything Lee/Stan have assembled. All of these guys custom build to the owners personal tastes.

thats funny, i was just gonna ask about how the external rudder performs on a v-bottom

I'm only mainly seen them on monster cats or hydros

External rudders have their place, they work exceptionally well for 110+ RCs.

what are the benefits?

what handling characteristics are noticed? (I've only ever driven 2 RC's, and only one over 70ish)

Sure and at slow or cruising speeds the steering feels unresponsive which can be unnerving. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Theoretically faster at high speed.

Of course there were two of the Eye of Tiger boats.

I heard the other one was the race boat, this one the back up. Lynch told me the race version was faster. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’d think it would be the opposite since the pivot point is further back. Interesting.

The wash from the prop creates the leverage to turn. At idle those boats barely turn at all

That’s a nice pc no offense to anyone answer.. but if you read between the lines the answer is there in the sentence “WHEN I CHANGED MY SCHIADA”.

Only due to my background with turbos, dating back to when I worked for Gale Banks.

Vectors typically have a lighter layup and take less power to go fast. Schiada will out perform it in rough water. Power to Power in good water. I think the Vector beats it. I’m talking realistic power. Say 600-1000 HP.

You get in some snotty water and the Schiada would walk away… I also think the Schiada Hull is a much stronger built boat.

If a Brummett comes available I’ll sell a kidney for it. Actually I have a stash waiting. They’re amazingly built boats.
The Brummitt molds are here in Tucson. Im sure Eddie McPheeters will lay one up for you for the right price.

4 boats i wish like hell i would have grabbed way back when i had the chance

The Restless 527 Vector
The 31 Schiada (purple w/twin sbc's)
The Turquoise step bottom 24 i/o Schiada
The Brummitt 21 (bravo rig)
