I think the hondas are fine, I just think the Ecotecs are a better torque/HP ratio in a non turbo set up. VW parts are getting pricey. One of my bro in laws picked up a second Chenowth Explorer with 2275 vw for $5K. He has noticed a rise in prices for all vw stuff in last year.

He got a hell of a deal for a mid travel.

But even HE says no rail/duall sport car can carve a trail in Earp like a 800 or bigger SXS/LOL!

The hondas are about 260 hp stock the ecotecs are about 170-200.If i had a bigger car the honda would go in it but for a car like mine the ecotec will be a great motor.hard to beat blow up either when it comes to replacing a motor hit a junkyard and you can leave with either a honda or ecotec for under 600 bucks.Put a rod thru a case on a vw your looking at about 500 and up for a decent case more like 700.:yikes

My car is 1350 right now full of fuel. motor is prob 150-160hp for my 2275.

I would think there are several people these days... Seems like we all have the same comin interest- boating and the river during the summer. Off road cars, SxS'S, dirt bikes, quads, desert, dunes, and camping during the winter! Sounds like we all have shit figured out if you ask me!

i agree,
my point is a lot of LT high dolllar sand cars dont have a matching high HP boat and a lot of sxs owners do. Maintenance costs force most off road/river guys to make a compromise on one side of the toys these days.

I can only think of a handful of some of the big dogs at Glamis drags that even own a boat, let alone a performance one.

I don't believe HP ratings for anything in a rail....lol its the only industry where you take the motor out of a car and it gains 70-100hp;):D

I don't even want to know what retail pricing for a 200+ HP vw is. My uncle has owned/ built some very nice turbo and non turbo big dollar vw motors and personally I think there are better options both price and reliability wise.

Back in the day I had about $8k into a fuel injected, turbo 2110 SCAT motor in my mid engine sand rail. It ran like a raped ape. Looking back now that was a lot of money then, it's much easier to go grab a motor out of a junkyard for $500 and it's pretty much bullet proof and butt stock.

Wife's rail is getting the ecotec this winter if everything goes as planned.

My uncle had a 300hp turbo vw in a nice Lt sand limo 2 sweater. Pretty cool light Car that duned great.

He got stomped every single time by my other uncle with a bone stock ls1 in a 4 seat desert dynamics car when we went to the hill. That motor lasted 2 seasons at that level of boost. The ls1 will probably last 10 years before it has a problem.

I don't know if anyone has put one of the newer factory turbo ecotechs in a rail. My 08 hhr as made 260 to the wheels stock and made a ton more power then the previous he station supercharged eco tech.

I was in the lsx game a long time ago. Cracked me up when they showed up in sand cars and the hp ratings for a stock ls1 were 400hp and cam only were 500.

I would say most sand car owners never put there car on the rollers.

My long time sand bro is shop teacher in++++++++and he got a pretty good sized grant from the school district to install this. He's begging me to drag my rail down for a tune session to teach the kids about vdubs and the power than can make.

Here's his email to me:

The PR person with ******* USD took the pictures for the local paper.

That is a Superflow AWD chassis dyno good for about 1,500 HP to the ground.
The engine dyno can handle well over 1,000 HP also. I got a flowbench and a whole bunch of other cool shop toys too.
I still keep pinching myself if this is a dream or what. (every gear head fantasy just came true for me)

I can't wait to do some tuning on it!!

The vid is almost the same motor as mine only 42mm intake and less compression...

What does you're average vw motor put out HP wise?

The newer rzr 1000 are 110 HP in a car that weighs 1400lbs and have what 15" of travel?

Now factor in creature comforts and 4x4 and you have a very capable multi purpose toy.

2275 putting out 128 hp, 141 ft lbs (at the rear wheels). Weighs in at 1350 lbs with 17" travel.

I don't think people understand what the newer sport sxs are capable of.

New RZR is 107hp stock with Muzzys exhaust you are looking at 115hp with 18" of travel (stock)

I have a Wicked sand rail 3.2 turbo. It was just shy of 300 Hp to the wheels. Built heavy over 2000 lbs loaded but has plenty of travel and handles Havasu off roading well. The only draw back I see is trails and trailering. Its Fast and fun with the family.

Did someone actually put it on a dyno and check that? When I bought my T-Rex they claimed exhaust and intake really "opened it up" etc.. I put the MSD / Intake / exhaust.. Tobtek had just an intake, but he had larger diameter wheels.. They were the same in a drag race.

It's all about the financing.. I can barely afford to tie my shoes, and I find myself contemplating one everyday.

Muzzys claims just over an 8% gain on the new 1000s. You can check out their site and see what you think. :D

Maybe Tobtek is a better driver...haha

if anyone buys a new 1000 and wants to do a before and after test, bring it to my dyno, I'll do it for free.

of course the guys selling aftermarket parts promise you HP. dont be suprised if it LOOSES power.

That's the truth. When I hadn't rhino motor done. Muzzy didn't actually show an improvement in HP till can and head work was done. I wanted to do all the work except muzzy and they said no way as once heads and cam was done it needed exhaust.

I figured the BLM knows best since they drive a Conquest in Havasu and a Funco in the dunes.:D

I have a Conquest 28 Topcat II w/ 525 and an 08 Funco Gen 5 with a blown and stroked LS2. Not all buggies are maintenance nightmares, as Funco has done their homework, just gas and go.

Hard to beat the buggy in the dunes. I've thought about picking up a Rzr, but would only be used for drunk rides at night, when I really should just be sitting by the fire when the booze comes out.:D

I got almost 10hp gain over stock with the Muzzy's on mine.
