Just read this on FB and thought maybe someone at RDP might have seen this unfinished boat:

Last May I posted about my friend who bought an Ultra boat and four years later has never received his boat. The boating community was very supportive with suggestions. Now Rusty and Ultra have packed up and moved with no forwarding address. My friend is $50,000 into this and now we can’t find the boat. Ultra boats filed for bankruptcy and was denied and now he is worried he won’t get anything. I’m doing this for my friend who was buying this boat for retirement. Please spread the word about Ultra before someone else gets burned. Here are some pictures he took of the 24ft boat over the past four years. First of all shout out to my friends who always have mine and my family's back. Second, I received a call from Rusty and went to his new shop on Thursday to see our boat. The hull is currently being worked on and we agreed on a 4 step process that he would meet at specified dates or he would release the boat to me with the verified HIN# on it and accompanying MSO. There are dates for each of the 4 steps and if one is missed, he will release the boat to me.

Guy I know gave a good size down payment to him back in 2020 and they sat on it for 6 months. He went and got his deposit back and had one made in 6 months at Interceptor. One of the lucky ones

Can’t speak for the ones Rusty built but mine is built great no issues since I purchased new. Biggest difference is the size most of the manufacturers listed above are at least a 28’. Versus the biggest deck Ultra built was a 26’ Also the last built by John West was back in 08/09 so we are talking at least a 15 year old boat.

It's amazing how a few names with questionable business practices can ruin an entire brand. John built up one of the most well-known and easily recognizable boat companies on the West Coast. And now, people no longer know of "Ultra" as a decent custom boat manufacturer. It's pretty fucking sad that there are people out there like this.

Even if someone were to recover some Ultra boat molds, it is going to take some significant changes (Money, advertising and the right people), to take the sour taste out of everyone's mouths. It would be a monumental undertaking that I'm not even sure COULD save the name.

It's a damn shame.

Could very well be easier, better etc. In the long run to just start a new co. Name with the "ultra molds" as known. But then again any ties to the name would likely bring along with it the soured stigma of the more recent reputation and I'll will. Sad to see such a good brand die with such a bad reputation.
