I feel bad for the guy that is not getting his boat. In the world today, a simple internet search could have avoided all this. SMH

This has me thinking...If you have to give your money to who would pick..
Who are the best West Coast boat brands on the market today, with renowned reputations for integrity, honesty, quality, reliability.
Howard, Hallett/Nordic and ???
DCB, Howard, Nordic/Hallett, Eliminator, Shockwave, Barron, Cobra, Advantage and Essex to start.

Interceptor had some issues, but Andrew has really turned them around and they are putting out boats consistently now. Cheetah also is delivering boats consistently. Up and coming brands like Luxe look to be doing things right.

I just hope the 27 Shadow and 26 ShadowDeck molds end up in with someone who actually builds and delivers boats.
Last time I talked to John about them he didn’t even seem interested in them anymore.

Same. Last time I chatted with him; while he misses the design aspect, he has ZERO interest in building boats. But is sad to see the brand get tarnished like it has been under Rusty.

Rusty was the only one who expressed interest in the molds when JW was looking to move them. He tried to help Rusty the first two years, BUT Rusty always through the knew more and his way was better. That was one reason JW stopped helping and walked as far away from Rusty as he could.

Guy asked for a detailed time estimate and progress steps.
Rusty’s response is he is feeling better, but no details on steps or timing.

While Rusty treated me right (on-time, under budget repairs), his actions have brought these issues on himself.
I used to defend him, but after so many stories on boats not delivered on time, etc - I stopped.
Seems boats being paid for via progress payments always have these issues at Ultra.

How do you live like that? It would give me anxiety every time I picked up my phone.
I'd start with deleting all of my unread emails/messages........
My personal doesn't look like that

Ahhh the good ol "I'm the victim, place blame, and not answer the question" response. Typical scammer with no concept how to run a business.

Reminds me of the majority of the companies in the off road industry.

With the way pricing has increased, at least his boat will be worth 20% more that what he paid for it once finally completed. LOL

It's got to be tough to find decent boat riggers who want to work full time in Havasu. I wish the brand the best of luck. I would love to build an 26 or 27 Shadow in the future.

I can't leave work until I check all emails. I can't handle the unknown and anxiety having them build up.

As far as ultra and rusty, hasn't this near exact topic been discussed for years? Like not 2 years... closer to 10.

I can't understand how he makes a living. People actually open a wallet to him?

Maybe it's all a misunderstanding. I don't know him. He has every opportunity to log in and clear some confusion though

Now imagine quality riggers wanting to work for a builder with a reputation like UB. I’d be worried that I would be working for “free” when pay day comes around.

My wife probably has/had everyone beat. Hers was up around 130k, but after I made fun of her about it she started deleting some. She found out a way to delete a bunch at a time. Something like you can do to delete all emails from a certain company or something like that. She id down to about 90k.

start with an email search that has the word "unsubscribe" in it and then delete them all

Just an update on the thread..

Rusty didn’t steal the boat nor was he hiding. He met with the customer and they have a plan to finish the boat.

First of all shout out to my friends who always have mine and my family's back. Second, I received a call from Rusty and went to his new shop on Thursday to see our boat. The hull is currently being worked on and we agreed on a 4 step process that he would meet at specified dates or he would release the boat to me with the verified HIN# on it and accompanying MSO. There are dates for each of the 4 steps and if one is missed, he will release the boat to me.

Really like the gel design on your boat.
When is the target completion date, if all goes to plan.

I don't mean to be "That" guy, but why isn't the HIN already stamped in the transom?? Typically it's done in the gelcoat and layup process in the mold.......

I'm not trying to stir the pot, I'm merely wondering "Why?"

I still can’t wrap my head around being four years later and it’s still all good because there’s a “plan”…what is this a Speed boat..
I think you have to be nice to get A decent product, quality wise lots of corners could be cut if things turn nasty the boat is already late by any builders standards if owner wants to get a boat and not end up in court he has to play a game I’m not sure he can win but getting the boat late and not paying an attorney is a better outcome than court
I’m wondering why people would chose Ulta at this point is it price or is Rusty just that good a salesman ?

Because Ultra has some of the nicer, aesthetically pleasing smaller hulls(sub 30 ft.)

That sort of went away when capping the front and rear became fashionable.
It’s a big PITA to preserve the in the mold HIN during that process.
Easier, quicker and much less labor to just stick it after the rubbing is done.

And, is one of the only things you will hear me defend Rusty on in here.

As to the new build plan? I’ll believe it when this new poster posts up pics of himself on the water🤞

Thank you for clarifying that, I appreciate it! 👍

I wasn't trying to stir the pot, I was genuinely curious about that "Little" detail.

Still shouldn’t take years to complete a boat of that size. When I ordered my boat it was done in about 3 months. Two builds with Ultra when John West owned it.

Looks like its about 2 weeks away from being finished.

No seriously! Maybe if there was a motor and a drive unit sitting next to it ready to be dropped in. 🤔

Any real signs of moving forward? Trailer, interior, hardware and some wire looms. An order/invoice/ shipment details for a motor might be a good idea for customer to see.

If your friend is out $50k to this guy, there should be NO more money paid until a product is produced!

20 years ago and more, stories were told about builders that would get customers money and or to get there loan docs signed so builder would get paid only to make excuses and run off before boat(s) were delivered.

If they are doing progress payments something is off.
Used to be 10% to start hull, 25% when motor ordered, 25% when interior completed, 40% due at completion.

When I built CC, the goal was 350 hours to take a bare hull and have a functioning boat minus the interior in three weeks with three guys. That meant multiple O/Bs, radars, night vision, lightbars, AC's, outriggers, bow thrusters, bathrooms, stereos and every option you can imagine. These boats just seem so easy.
