Slightly petty rant/However big Props to Riviera staff! Ran into a little kink this weekend when I went to dunk my boat in for the next few days....someone with a case of self entitlement decided to park their dock wrecker in my slip last night and leave it for the majority of the day...not like I haven't spent thousands of dollars for that slip mainly for weekends like this (spring break,DS,SCFW etc)... but it's fine for you to delay my family's plans like it's no issue, wouldn't want to disrupt your weekend right, as your plans are sooooo much more important than ours, just park wherever you want.... It would have been nice for the first boat to park in that slip to have been mine...since I paid for it..but by all means you do you. The management staff was on it when I informed them, and got it handled quickly. They handled it in a very professional manner as did their staff. Hopefully they stay on top of this stuff in the future to prevent it.

As I came down the hill I saw it...hard to miss it. I was already pissed when I hit the lot over seeing it....but im not a 22 yo hot head anymore. I walked down, took pictures, decided how I wanted to handle it... and then went into the office to do what I was there for (get my slip stickers since you have to bring your boat). I feel bad for not remembering her name, but the lady at the desk was more than professional as were the other two gentleman, she understood my frustration (I was polite, but emphasized that it needed to be gone, I wanted to verify that they hadn't ok'd it...because the shit would have hit the fan at that point) They called me within about an hour saying it was gone, it wasn't authorized. I texted Luke about it after I left, we exchanged a few messages about how they were working to prevent it and such. I will say that they handled it quite well...I can't really complain. While I would have liked to see security untie it, pull the plug and sink it...well that isn't exactly reasonable 🤣 Havasu Riviera gets a 10/10 for this, even though it wasn't a great situation...how they handled it makes me feel like they have a great staff and actually give a crap about their customers.

I'm waiting for Desert Storm and Supercatfest to see if the Riviera will actually check for dock squatting. London bridge needs full-time people on the docks in the afternoon to prevent it.

I fully intend to have a rope across my slip with my boat name if I'm not in it...I made the call to have the sign made today over the squatter. It will be up before I leave town again. That would go over like a lead balloon...

Riviera has slip stickers, but its denoting year..not slip number. I think that was a mistake on their part...but maybe it will change.

A chain across the dock with a lock solves that.

Had any of the docks that were sold already marked as “private”?

Has anyone challenged the private use of a dock on public waters? 😜

@LargeOrangeFont you have a new customer waiting. 😜
We have a lake house in Iowa. We have issues. These slips can’t be much different.

Who do I sue If my kid gets hurt on these slips, or I run my boat into one in the middle of the night, load with 6 people I don’t even know.

It’s never easy when you build something on public land. Even when you think all the I’s are dotted,

Our situation is with the state of Iowa, we lost, and opened a can of worms.

I think the cable with a paddle-lock might help.

We ended up being required by the state to placard/sign installed that says “Public Dock - Privately maintained”.

All of the docks are private and they are pretty much all sold.
It was not me that pulled into the slip, I haul azz around the lake in some big ole Toon.
I have never pulled into the marina so I have no idea of the markings ect..
If not marked already it sounds like marking and signs are coming soon.
Unless the slips were marked as private how would someone who just pulled into the marina know?
If they are not marked as private then some sort of marina security should be confirming ownership of anyone that pulls into a slip.

Last time at Katherines in the winter my bro & I in my whaler were being hawk-eyed by the Wharf Rats at the fuel dock.
I knew it was coming from my experience in Newport.
Sure enough we get the, "HEY GUYS"???? . . . "We Can't Have You In Here".
I pulled the Jedi-Mind Trick & said, "Oh, Sorry . . . Is it OK if I drop him off to go up to the store for a bag of ice"???
😆😉

To answer your previous question, the Riviera marina is on leased property from the state of Arizona. Federal, State and City approval and permits were needed for the construction of the Marina and all it's facilities. During the approval process, there was plenty of opposition against the project, but the authorities voted in favor of the project and issued permits.

I agree with you that the Riviera marina needs to address it's lack of proper signage. The marina is an ongoing construction project with phase 2 about to start. I think as soon as boating season starts, it will become apparent to the operators that they are going to need to make some changes/additions to their facilities.

Does the Riviera have authority to approve access to park in the marina as is this city code or do they need approval from department of reclamation

The Riviera has a 40 year lease for the property, so they can say who can or can't access or park on the facilities.

This is how our problem started. Dock owners were putting signs on their docks that said “Private Dock”. 😉

But the slips aren't on the property
Actually they are in the sense that the boundaries of the facilities are defined in the lease. The leased property includes both dry land and water.

Did you know that you can own or lease airspace?

The difference is that when the Riviera puts up signage, they have the authority to do so.

I would do what “ace in the hole“ is doing, and “lock” your slip, when your boat is not there, When it is, put the cable/lock back on so your boat doesn't drift away all by its self. Maybe attach a couple empty floating Minnow buckets in the middle with white /red reflectors for longer term emptiness. I would not include the words private. Maybe your boats name😉. Make it an easy decision for the guy interested in your spot😉

I'm definitely going to do that. It will be interesting to see what the Riviera Marinas response will be once @Ace in the Hole installs his chain and lock 🔐

Bummed that we missed each other the last few days. Joel just let me know if you need me to check in each day at any time. I’d be happy to take a break from work and get out to the water at any time. Just let me know and i will be there. 👍

Sure is, until it happens to you. Happened to me last year and I was pissed.
I go to our river place to chill and have 0 drama.
Costs me over $3,000 a year to rent my slip and I expect it to be available 24/7/365, whether I use it daily or twice a year.

So we’re bitching about a boat that pulled into an unmarked slip?
I've had it happen. Family ties to my my dock and proceeds to unload their shit and set up camp on our private beach. Boat cop told me if I find a boat on my dock to cut it loose and set it adrift and let the Indians have it.

Very stupid indeed to be irked that someone takes something for themselves with no compensation offered, nor permission given that I paid for…Very stupid indeed. How dare I think otherwise. My apologies, it should just be a free for all. 🙄
This is what you need to install. :)
