Making money on Youtube seems hit or miss for most up and comers.
Google shuts of their paychecks randomly also. See it on sailing channels and car based channels.

With Mike's following he could easily pivot to his production online.. from podcast to just docujournal of his projects. Likely could get sponsors and with the approprate amount of followers make some money.... Unfortunately the parent company got so in over their heads...Doubt that 41B had anything to do with these car shows...likely they were sacrificial lambs along with many other shows/content vehicles under the parent umbrella.

I can still watch Finnegan's Garage, hope you keep making the content Mike.

Freigberger is who got me spinning wrenches in my spare time back when he was editor of 4WOR, then I followed him to Car Craft and loved most of what he did there also. He was the first magazine editor I found that was less about the show and shine and more about showing how to get things done without cubic $$$.

Slap dick is how most of us roll, BTW. Take your shiney billet trailer queens over in that corner and diddle yourselves if it makes you happy. 🤣🤣🤣
Watch that Camaro video and ask yourself if you should be looking up up to this guy

None of that is that interesting, I'd rather watch someone piece together something from a shithole garage...thats more relatable....
Well I guess there’s not that many of you because your concept went BK

I dont even watch regular TV anymore, get Youtube premium and realize how much time you have wasted on commercials your whole life!

So many good content providers making youtube channels.

I just watched @cyclone do his Top 10 at Sema on youtube last night. It was badass. I buy his merch, great shirts IMO.

It’s hard to make money on YouTube IMO.. unless you make and sell your own commercials in your own videos maybe?
From what I have gathered, its not the video views but the video sponsors where most of the money comes from? Maybe cyclone can confirm? He's been around it for so long now I'm sure he knows.

@cyclone with this new, disheartening news, do you think it is better or worse that you are no longer in So Cal with this crossroad laid in front of you?

Man I hate it when people say shit like that.. I’ll post pics of a machining project I’m doing and here come the guys saying “he’s in flip flops!” Yes yes I am.. I am showing you something I’m not osha..

Every time we post a boat video here comes the life jacket police.. lol

RD
The difference of you posting on a web site and Freiburger is simply the size of the audience . A guy with a nationally syndicated tv show should IMO try to be cognizant of the fact that many in his audience have never had training with regards to PPE. You can hate me all you want but my 50years in heavy industry has seen some horrific injuries. You gotta start with the basics.

Paid 3k for it used. All I hear are excuses
You really don't get it. This thread isnt about DOING these things. This is about relating to others that want to WATCH someone do these things. More people are more likely to watch if its an activity that is obtainable for them. Something they can see themselves doing. Something that requires basic hand tools, some basic knowledge, and the opportunity.

You are stuck on "if it isnt the best or absolute correct way to do something, then its garbage and not worth watching." That isnt what sells. That isnt what the majority of poeple want to see.

Well, it failed. As in canceled. Went BK. So it’s you that “don’t get it”

Um.... no. The only ones that were still thriving in their own rights were the shows we are all talking about. About the only show left that used high quality materials, craftsmanship and took their time was Bitchin' Rides. Otherwise is was all the low buck, backyard guy shows trying to save the big $$ place shows.

Just because a corporation is trying to cut off arms that don't make them enough money doesnt mean they were failures or people weren't watching in large numbers still.

Read my article above for a glimpse into how WB probably went BK versus these low cost productions.

Welll, Guilty here. Goofy or not, I followed most of them. Engine Masters being a particular fav.
A RK I was looking forward to was a rebirth of a Mazdarati. I was bummed when it was stolen.
We'll see where it all goes..

I enjoy the content those guys put out. I don’t care what they’re wearing or if Dulcich is having a bad hair day. Doesn’t matter to me. If anything, their lack of giving af validates these dudes as real car guys.
I know this is Riverdaves but some of us aren’t metrosexuals. 😜

I think DF, Cyclone and the gang have built a strong following and don’t need Motortrend. They’ll continue to reach their audience on several platforms and continue to grow. 👍

We're now at Warner Bros Discovery went BK?? What the hell? WBD shuts down what appears to be an entity within an entity. Nothing went BK.

I've been watching Freidburger's channel....

The cars are cool, but a lot of it as about the adventure. He takes drives through places in some random shitbox, has to constantly fix it, but seeks out cool shit along the way, researches it a bit, and tells you about some of the history.

I'm about 1/2 tempted to do something similar with the boy....fly halfway across the country and buy some piece of shit car, then road trip it home seeing all the sights for a couple weeks.

Can't imagine a better job, really.

I'm sure they inspired other to do just that. The adventure is what it's all about.

Fag, nobody who's working actually takes pictures of themselves working.

Is that a new shirt and gloves you bought for this photo op? They're not even dirty....
Well dick! My bud Chad kept texting me while I was welding. The shirt is a 5 yr old billabong flannel & the gloves have a hole in one of the fingers. Sometimes I forget it’s there and burn my finger.

This is tig welding. Not your buggered up harbor freight bubba fuck stick weld garbage can job long beach

I wouldn't drive a Ford if someone gave one to me....might get mistaken for someone who sucks dick, I'd rather walk

The only reason you were able to park yours in the driveway is cuz you and your buddy were bigger than me and I woulda lost that fight....and you were gonna leave soon, so I let it go on the hopes that nobody important drove by and saw it there.

PS: I've been tig welding since you've been in diapers.

I've owned over 110 vehicles, built and races 3 different road race cars, built a crawler, built tons of fun shit.... the interesting part though is that I did it all when I was fucking broke, grassroots/road kill style. I used to corner weight my car with 10 bathroom scales I found on sale at target for $9.95 each, a few pieces of plywood and some PVC pipe. Spent 9 hours (per side) machining ball joint spacers to correct the front end geometry (as much as was possible) on my shitty harbor freight mini-lathe because it was all I could afford and I wanted to go racing.

There are a whole lot of people out there who really don't give 2 fucks about the high dollar stuff people can buy and bolt together....they wanna see how folks do it out of the scrap bin, because that gives them hope that they too might be able to achieve some of their dreams. That's why I think SEMA is so stupid....it's all wasted money with no real function as a result. The fan base for the "fastest primered beast" is way bigger, and the fans are way more creative.....those are my people.

I have the ability now, money wise, to build whatever the fuck I want....but I don't have the time and honestly, I wouldn't know what to do with something nice that all bolted together and works right....driving by people who look at me and think I'm some rich fuck who just threw money at the car until it was done. That's not how hot rodding should be.

I'd be right at home in my old Datsun.....

Sucks to see it go. The show really brought out or opened up a new car culture. People having fun and making memories on a budget with POS cars, for a better lack of terms. I went to the Duct Tape drags last year and it was the most fun I've had at a car event. Growing up I watched those shows on TNN/Spike TV and looking back more than 90% of the hands on gearheads out there aren't at that level financially to build something that nice in that environment. It's unrealistic. Roadkill is realistic. Like mentioned already the adventure was always entertaining. I'll miss seeing Dulcich.

I left socal 10 years ago and haven't wasted a nanosecond second-guessing that decision. I go back enough to visit family and work that the only thing I miss there are hot rod boats, my friends and Mexican food.

No sweat, I figured that was the case, considering the link you posted (that is the theme with anything AT&T has a hand in, even when a parent entity).

I'm not sure where the hate for the Roadkill guys comes from, but I'm with those that think it was a good show. I get the whole safety thing, but the guys regularly made cautionary statements if something they were doing clearly was stupid or unsafe. The spirit, never say die attitude, along with their ability to Macgyver just about anything to get to the destination was what I liked about it. Two 'regular' dudes having a blast doing car stuff.

I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the OGs of Roadkill, @cyclone and DF created a whole new generation of car enthusiasts that was much needed. My kids were already into cars at a young age because of me, but these guys made it cool and affordable. My kids learned that you did not have to have a boyd car or a car painted my Santini to be accepted and appreciated. Their message was take whatever you have with your budget and get it running and cruise. I truly believe these guys saved our car culture from extinction. They built cars that we hated back in the day and made us want one, they helped stalled projects get on the road. So again hats off to them and Thank you for the many years of entertainment and saving the old school car culture that were friends, beer, and bacon!
