Mike Finnegan announces the impending conclusion of Roadkill and other MotorTrend shows. The Auto Archaeologist discloses that financial constraints, specifically $41 billion in debt, have led Discovery/WB to dissolve the MotorTrend Production Company, affecting David Freiburger's Roadkill program.

I use it often as filler to a quiet room. Still have conversations with people that have not watched it before. Love the episodes that incluDe things in the desert/river.

So much of what's now shot and shown on the Motor Trend channel is nothing more than a 30 minute infomercial. I watch the older shows but nothing shot within the last 6 years or so.

The content was lacking originality big time.

I’m not interested in watching some guy in Victorville or death Valley piece together some random VW shit box with a Packard front end.

They should’ve had shows at Detroit speed, speed tech, Art, Morrison showing building Chassis, mini tubbing cars etc..

Engine builders. New tech.

SCCA Road Racing
Score an off-road truck
Karting & up incomers

The whole thing was lame & so were the majority of the hosts.

I’m confident given the opportunity I could have knocked it out of the park.

41b on dog shit.

I watch some of the motor trend streaming on the free apps. It’s older stuff but enjoy the older shows that show the better detail and explanations on a build.

Same goes for other auto related channels. One I like is engine builders no real drama just a comparison on how to make more power or compare different heads cam etc. Steve brule is very sharp and have known him from boat races too.

How does a company go 41 billion in debt? I don't know anything about corporations but doesn't that number sound extremely high? My poor brain just can't comprehend that big of a number.
Just wondering that a few days ago

unlike the other shows... and you know who they are, they didn't do advertisements and product promotions... which was just one reason it was a pleasure to watch them.. will surely miss them

The $41 billion debt is for the whole company, Warner Bros. Discovery. I think originally stemming from AT&T's purchase of Warner Bros in 2018. Warner Bros was spun off in 2022 to merge with Discovery. Read here, that anything AT&T touches goes to 💩.

I think Finnegan and Freiburger should buy Roadkill from Motor Trend Group.

I understand your perspective on the piecing together shit boxes isn’t your flavor. But I think the audience for that is more robust then the audience for watching up and coming karting racing. Which was why Roadkill took off.

Every time you turn on that channel that dude was in a dusty shit hole garage piecing together garbage.

I’m not saying 100% karting. A channel covering everything from custom cars to boating to racing on road & off to engines everything in between.

Interesting how you targeted karting when I mentioned many other topics

I did enjoy engine masters a lot as well. Growing up drag boat racing with Brule, it was cool to watch him work the dyno.

The crazy man Dulcich was always good too!

I think they probably over valued the original acquisition and put a bunch of money into the app and advertising. I bet roadkill and a couple of those shows can stand on their own feet and be profitable but they were lumped into a larger bag of debt.

Freiburger grinding, cuttting and welding in flip flops is an idiot. Just not setting the right example to the few young men and ladies that are interested in this kinda stuff.

Man I hate it when people say shit like that.. I’ll post pics of a machining project I’m doing and here come the guys saying “he’s in flip flops!” Yes yes I am.. I am showing you something I’m not osha..

Every time we post a boat video here comes the life jacket police.. lol

I saw his attempt to a YouTube channel with some junker 6cylinder 68 Camaro.

Half the shit he tried didn’t work. Then he rattle cans the grill of this Camaro before he mocks up.

Christ on a cracker it’s like watching a 14 year old fuck up a project. A how not to do video for classic car flippers

I think they may be trying to cash in on the Friends or Cheers TV show phenomenon. Like hanging out in your buddies garage looking at something and saying hey what if we took that and….
I think if they added beer and tits it Would be successful.

It’s was like a “how to” dumb ass production.

Seriously I don’t know why anyone would follow this guy.

Half his videos he has soy boi mouth. Another low testosterone production

I think Youtube has made the main money-making premise with these shows not financially viable since there is arguably, better content for free on their platform. I subscribe to Finnegan's channel, Cleetus, Vice Grip Garage, Matt's Off-road Recovery, and Legit Street Cars. Between those and some others that pop into my suggested video feed randomly, I have more than enough good motorsports entertainment damn near at all times. No need to go looking for all the 20% shows (those would be the shows that use filler of recaps and bullshit for 80% of their timeslots). Roadkill, Bitchin Rides, Dirt Everyday, and maybe one other were the only ones that didn't really fall into that 20% catagory, although some episodes of some of the shows flirted with that line a lot.

I’ve reached my limits on dudes slap dick projects thinking their pile of fuck is worth 60k.

Go back to ball games
I will say I don't think I have EVER heard Freiberger ever claim his creations are worth much of anything. In fact the opposite actually. Same with Mike.

WB went on a spending frenzy right before COVID and made some REALLY dumb purchases during that time. The real estate deals they made in Burbank alone would make most people's heads spin.

Take a look at this article talking about the back and forth of the Burbank based WB properties themselves. This doesnt even account for all the money WB wasted on those properties over the years while they owned them.

I can still watch Finnegan's Garage, hope you keep making the content Mike.

Freigberger is who got me spinning wrenches in my spare time back when he was editor of 4WOR, then I followed him to Car Craft and loved most of what he did there also. He was the first magazine editor I found that was less about the show and shine and more about showing how to get things done without cubic $$$.

Slap dick is how most of us roll, BTW. Take your shiney billet trailer queens over in that corner and diddle yourselves if it makes you happy. 🤣🤣🤣
