No sir. You can’t drive to the left of a solid double yellow line at any time, for any reason.

Well there ya go.. since we are on a learning curve here turning left into a solid and broken yellow, I was taught that is to accelerate admins then merge into traffic.

A cop told me awhile back that is not the case.. supposed to turn into stop and wait?

What say you?

21460(a) for the double yellow issue.

21460.5(c) for the two way turn lane.. which says this:

Wildly inaccurate.
Wildly inaccurate.
I should have said prevent, not prohibit. While you're charged with enforcing the law, would you really cite someone who completed such a pass safely, with no approaching vehicle visible in the oncoming lane?

I have zero confidence in the ability of drivers today, and plan accordingly.

In my case, I'm able to accurately estimate the amount of clear road ahead, the distance to the obstructed section of road far ahead, the speed of the vehicle(s) I'm passing, the ability of my vehicle to accelerate and pass the vehicle(s) in the time and distance allowed, even if it infringes on the beginning of a subsequent no passing zone, and, considering the amount of traffic, time of day, road conditions, weather, and other factors, make the decision to initiate and complete the pass without endangering me, the vehicle(s) I'm passing, or unseen oncoming traffic, even if it's approaching at an unanticipated speed. If that speeding traffic does appear, I will have sufficient time to abandon the attempt to pass.

Does this sound boastful? Probably. Do I think my millions of road miles justify the confidence in my ability to assess how and when I do anything at any time in a vehicle? Absolutely. Does this confidence factor in myself at all times consider what other drivers around me may or may not do? Indeed.

So far it's worked. I've received three tickets since 1986, and it's been longer than that since I dented any sheet metal.

@FlyByWire No kidding? I wouldn't have figured, but totally understand what you're saying.

But how about this scenario.......

I'm on my way to the river driving the 62 (Rice Rd) and there is a big accident that only blocks the Eastbound lane. It's a bad wreck because some asshole decided to pass 100 other slow assholes doing 100+ in his clapped out chevy luv. Now there's assholes everywhere. But hey, fuck it, I'm an asshole too and because the chevy luv asshole wasn't wearing a seatbelt, I'm gonna be an even bigger asshole and not stop. Just drive on by. But to do that, I need to drive on the left of the double yellow as it's the only passable lane.

Here's the question......who's the asshole??

having driven that road more times than just about anyone on here.. (well maybe except flybywire) I think people have shown way down compared to what it used to be..

More enforcement is the reason why..

My first car was a 1990 Acura integra.. it ran 146 mph on the rev limiter. My buddy had an automatic Honda accord ran 160’ish..

I don’t think modern day cars are much faster?
Dave not even close. A 4 door sedan has 600HP. You would not see this thing go by you. Just a typical M5.

I knew Hector with the 3 Spoon engines too!

New stuff is much faster and gets to 140 in half the time.

We can’t answer that until we know who was in the F150.

Everyone.

Just please don’t run over my goddamn evidence. The Fire Department will be along shortly to fuck it all up anyway.

I miss the days when Rice had zero traffic midweek. Early 2000's I made it from Havasu to San Diego in 3.5 hours on a Wednesday. I was triple digits on Rice almost the entire way. You could drive the entire distance back then and sometimes not see another vehicle.

This has to be one of the most idiotic posts I have ever read on here. You are an idiot endangering your family and all the other people on that route. That’s why I don’t drive Rice anymore. It’s all good until it isn’t when you kill your wife when your tire blows and you have to explain what the fuck you were doing to her family. Not smart. Be a better human

What did you do with the extra 11 minutes when you got to the river?

I was going from Prescott to Havasu Monday. This guy coming the other way in an oil burning GMC 6.2 doing 90+, damn near blew me off the road 😁
Yeah!! The same guy who ordered NO waffles at the Waffle Iron!!! :)

Could consuming beer and/or pot play a role with some drivers? Of course, that could happen on any road. Might heading to the River on Rice Rd be a more conducive location? Would the legalization of recreational marijuana make that more likely?

This thread is absolutely fucking stupid. And it shows how everyone is an Asshole.

This is just one assholes observation.....

Assholes bragging about passing. Assholes getting offended by assholes passing. Then assholes bragging about not helping other assholes if they injure themselves. Assholes going back and forth trying to make their point. Then it turns to the asshole construction zones. And of course, the anti ford assholes.

I feel like an asshole for writing this. But good god........why even start a thread like this? To stir up stupid bullshit to be an asshole?

Just get to the river, have some beers, then some 7&7's, finger bang your chick, and have fun.
I wanted to be an asshole by quoting you being an asshole.

I'm in havasu now reading through these posts. Didn't want to read it all while i was driving. I'm glad I decided not to take rice and speed in my ford as I know now that is highly frowned upon here. I did however decide to take the CA 95 which I haven't driven in 20 years. I tell ya, put it in sports mode, and that's a fun road. Pulled over for a photo of the river. Then took the bridge over to Indian 1.

Just an FYI, and Flybywire can correct the details I’m sure to fuck up, but any speed registered over 100MPH in CA, on any road including interstates, is a criminal violation…like a DUI.
(Ask me how I know)
If you are cited over 100 MPH in ‘Berdo county you will appear before that old grouchy judge in Barstow, unless he’s retired by now.
It’s a criminal charge, not a simple moving violation. There is no on line class for reduction, no mailing in your fine, none of that. You will show up, and He will fine you at least $900, he will suspend your license for at least 2 weeks,
I can’t remember how many points…then, after he scolds you for a good 5-10 minutes he will make you sit at a juror chair and look through his book of CHP pictures featuring dismembered bodies and all kinds of “blood on the asphalt” type pictures before he lets you leave.
There’s no options besides taking it or lawyering up. This was my experience and I was just going straight down a mostly empty freeway.
There was 3 of us in his court that day for criminal speeding almost 4 years ago.
It didn’t matter what you plead, he wanted a verbal explanation of WHY we were doing over 100 on HIS roads. As you might guess, there was no suitable explanation..he took that shit personal.
I can’t imagine what he’d do if facing a person in his courtroom cited for doing 105 for miles on end in the oncoming lane of a 2 way state road. He’d lose his fucking mind from what I saw!

It used to be something like 20 over was "speed in excess" or something like that. The f'r was a 2 pointer, do not pass go, do not collect 200$...that was in the 90's though, and written by sheriff and not CHP.

That’s what I always thought too.
CHP that got me was way cool, he seemed sort of nonchalant and interested in the car.
I thought for sure I was going to jail, he was like “naw, mandatory court appearance”.
That 20 over might Jack the fine or whatever, but 100 is the criminal threshold.
