no.1st time on rice was 1980.echo lodge was my 1st campground.1st bar was sundance and won the macho man contest and 50 bucks.just never took the time to investigate the sights.I knew, even been invited to go to a club event there.

So is this the first time you've noticed stuff along Rice?
Ever notice the stone markers along the route? Those indicate some of the camps for the WWII training war games.
even more interesting is the HUGE ghost town that is across the road!...huge town with schools, hospitals, hundreds of homes all abandoned and still there, was a huge mining town....eerie to see..completely abandoned
I’ve always noticed those markers, but never made the time to pull over and see what they were all about. One of these trips I’ll do that.I knew, even been invited to go to a club event there.

Desert Center, the ghost town, is also the birth place of Kaiser Permanente Health insurance (what would evolve into that instution) Henry J Kaiser was the man, Kaiser steel, cars, all kinds of stuff. Pretty interesting if you google him.
It's not completely abandoned, there's still a government yard there and Lake Tamarisk a little bit down the road. I wonder what all those people that live at the lake do for gas and groceries?
It’s actually up the road from Desert Center. Eagle Mountain

Actually it's in Desert Center, there's a marker next to the old grocery story marking the location of the birthplace of Kaiser Permanente.
motrboatnsob Is talking about Eagle Mountain not Desert Center

To be honest, I've not stopped at any of those markers either but learned about them when that "Pokemon Go" game was big here. They were points of interest on the game.no.1st time on rice was 1980.echo lodge was my 1st campground.1st bar was sundance and won the macho man contest and 50 bucks.just never took the time to investigate the sights.
my bad...I meant the entrance is right across the road...but when I mentioned hospitals, schools and hundreds of homes all abandoned and still there..I certainly wasn't talking about Desert CenterMy mistake, when he said ghost town across the road I didn't know he meant 10 miles across the road.

no drag strip but ive checked out their website and looks like a very impressive venueI understand that now, I just had my head up my ass.
Back to the track, I wonder why they didn't (or maybe they did?) make a drag strip there too?
