I knew, even been invited to go to a club event there.
.
.
So is this the first time you've noticed stuff along Rice?
Ever notice the stone markers along the route? Those indicate some of the camps for the WWII training war games.

I heard it’s a ton of fun but haven’t been there yet. Some friends and I are going to go out after it cools down in the fall and try it out on the bikes

When I went in and talked to the owner he is booked every weekend all year. He bought the old desert center airport for it.

Usually they'll let you in to check it out if you're driving by and something is going on at the track. You just need to sign a waiver, I've never had to pay and never been turned away.

Desert Center, the ghost town, is also the birth place of Kaiser Permanente Health insurance (what would evolve into that instution) Henry J Kaiser was the man, Kaiser steel, cars, all kinds of stuff. Pretty interesting if you google him.
It's not completely abandoned, there's still a government yard there and Lake Tamarisk a little bit down the road. I wonder what all those people that live at the lake do for gas and groceries?

I’ve always noticed those markers, but never made the time to pull over and see what they were all about. One of these trips I’ll do that.

It’s actually up the road from Desert Center. Eagle Mountain

Actually it's in Desert Center, there's a marker next to the old grocery story marking the location of the birthplace of Kaiser Permanente.

motrboatnsob Is talking about Eagle Mountain not Desert Center

My neighbor has a place there...

He just goes out there every so often juts to get away from it all.

You're right. Would be kinda tough to actually "live" there.

Track is very well designed, no expense was spared in making it a first class facility. Lots of car and bike track days are held there now, as well as many new cars are tested out there so the public cant get a look at them pre-production. The other bad ass place is the Proving Grounds just past the 95 on the 40. Chrysler and Harley are out there I believe.

To be honest, I've not stopped at any of those markers either but learned about them when that "Pokemon Go" game was big here. They were points of interest on the game.

My mistake, when he said ghost town across the road I didn't know he meant 10 miles across the road.
my bad...I meant the entrance is right across the road...but when I mentioned hospitals, schools and hundreds of homes all abandoned and still there..I certainly wasn't talking about Desert Center

I understand that now, I just had my head up my ass.

Back to the track, I wonder why they didn't (or maybe they did?) make a drag strip there too?

I checked out the sit too, looks like there's a lot of the air strip left to do a drag strip.

The owner mentioned doing one. He was trying to get an NHRA event there. He says the place is about equal distance from LA,Las Vegas and Phoenix thought he could get people from all 3 places to come watch a race.

Love that track. I just wish they had someplace to stay, gas, food, etc.. It is really desolate for a weekend event, when you usually need to check in around 6:30..

Half a lap from a test session..
