Inside USA. Outside USA. If you were to shut it all down today, where would you drop anchor?

I know there will be a lot of Arizona, New Mexico...low housing, taxes, COL...

Well...where would you go?

40 minutes from San Antonio..... beer, bait and bullets at the local market. Check out the 11th Street Cowboy Bar and Bricks Restaurant. Oh... and no State tax. Longhorn Saloon is good.... Clint Black's brother's place.

No good lakes or boating like we know it here.... only drawback.

Thanks.... now you have me thinking about moving back.

There's a guy in Costa Rica, who gives, honest, unbiased tours. He has nothing to sell you. He takes you to the ex-pat area's where American's are living/retiring. He said 6/7 that go there return within one year.

In any case he shows you the facts, upsides and downsides.

A non income tax state, so that leaves Florida, Texas or Nevada.

Somewhere warm since I hate the cold. We are thinking of Arizona, Texas or South Carolina.

Arizona or Nevada

Lots of things do all year long. Low home prices, cost of living is low, taxes are lower or no state taxes in Nevada.

No, you don't California tried that, courts said no, many years ago.

Me?
Nevada. Not really gonna "retire", gonna regroup, work on a legacy for my sons and their families...something that will last, and serve them well no matter what the future brings.

Texas... Bandera, Texas

I'm right near there, just outside of Helotes. (Between Bandara and San Antonio)
I plan to retire in about 21 months. (Nice pad will be up for sale)
I'll be moving back to the West, either Nevada or Arizona.
The Boating and offroading is not as good here.
Canyon Lake, TX area might be better if you go boating often and want to be near San Antonio.

Definitely wouldn't move to Havasu. It's too hot, windy, and the lake is choppy and has quagga's.;):D

A serious question...

If you are retiring will you be making enough money to matter in regards to income tax?

Im hoping when the time comes to have most stuff paid off and trying to show as little income as possible?

If that's the case the "income" tax issue is not as important than the other "taxes"???

Love thoughts from others a little ahead of me on this continuum towards eternal bliss.

Our plan right now (this is probably 20 years out) is to do what I call, retire on the back of a boat. We're going to get a boat large enough to stay the winter time on. Probably keep it in Florida and boat around. Summer we'll come back north. It would be nice to use the same boat summer and winter. But moving that boat back and forth North to south would be a pain.

Part of my in-laws plans for retirement is to complete the great loop, probably a couple years out. It would be on my list as well.

Oregon has plenty of taxes, just not a sales tax YET!! They make up for that in property taxes.

That's what it is then. Washington I think doesn't have property tax so people live there but do there big shopping in Oregon.

Have you checked out the ICW (Inter Coastal Waterway)? Great lay-out along the Gulf and East coasts.

If you are have income of $100K in retirement you will save about $10K a year (Nevada) over California. $10K cash helps with two nice cruise ships a year.

If you double your income the picture just keeps getting better.

I'm hoping I'll be making more retired than what I am working when I get to that age.

All true, Lake Travis in the day time, and sixth street in the night time.

but crime is on the rise. Its the liberal capital of Texas, and lots of bums.
but it is legal to shoot thieves when you catch them.

My buddy moved to Austin. He doesn't care for it so much and Lake Travis needs a lot of rain to fill it up so you can boat.
