I like to make a few night runs to Topock each summer. Never really planned them out, just jumped in the boat and gone historically. Well I have gone on full moons (epic), and I have gone with no moons (adventure). With the full moons you can generally run on a slow plane both directions with no worries. With no moon you are idling all the way home which makes for a long night, but honestly it's the craziest amount of fun you will ever have if you have a good group with you.

topock7.jpg

I was looking to plan a couple of different things this summer since it is RDP's 10th Anniversary. On August 5th the moon rises at 6:17 pm, and it is at 97% illumination at midnight. Basically what that means is, it's going to be one of those seriously bright nights where it's almost like day light outside. (One of the best boating nights of the summer)

10th Anniversary Shirts will be available at Topock!

I will talk to Chip, and have him put Bacon Wrapped Filet / Lobster on the menu for that night, and we'll get some shitty live band playing 80's rock for the pool all night.

topock1.jpg

For the people that are on a diet, they also make this healthy salad with brisket I believe. (I dunno I always go for the steak and lobster)

topock2.jpg

For those in boats you guys can do whatever you want, but we generally make two party stops on the way home.

If you aren't down for the night time boating thing, totally understandable. You are more than welcome to drive your car up there, or if you plan on drinking I will talk to Wayne about taking a group out of Havasu up to Topock in the Party Bus!

Let me know if you are down to go (however you want to get there) so I can start talking to Chip about how many Lobsters he's going to need for the evening. (I'm thinking quite a few, because they smoke it, and it's crazy good)

Honestly dirtbag, this is the absolute most fun you can have in a boat. (No shit)

The night time beach festitivies on the way home are EPIC. The biggest thing is to stay home during the day so the sun doesn't wipe you out for that night.

I'll talk to Vic and see if we can move the dam run one weekend before or after. The topock run (especially if newbies are going) is kinda dependant on the moon, and moons like that only happen a couple times a season. I think you went with us on one of the pitch black nights.. LOL It's an adventure for sure when you do that, but way to sketchy for people that aren't familiar with night time boating, and aren't kinda up for whatever.

It was a full moon but a very late rise, we were at the south end of the gorge beached for a while when it finally came up. Great night.

I'm in and just called Dave about getting a toon or two for the night so we don't as many boats. I'll sponsor a toon, but I won't be driving it. :drink

In fact if someone has a toon and wants to make room for a few of us I'll pay for your time and boat use. Or if two people do, I'd rather see all of us on two or three toons with a safe passage then 15 boats on plane. All though night boating with that type of moon is like day boating, still be more fun on a couple of boats.

A full moon's a full moon, the Dam run has been on the books for months. July 8th, Saturday is actually the full moon night at 100%. On August 6th it's still waxing at 94%.
I don't want to miss this if for any other reason than to see Andy's ass on a pontoon at midnight.

Sounds like a great time!!

There is nothing better than running the river at night with a full moon, but can also be scary as shit trying to navigate home when there is no moon.

Some of my best times on the lake are at midnight floating and listening to music- before kids of course!

I talked to Vic already about pushing the dam run a week or making it a week earlier. I'd move this but I can't make the moon full at random. Lol.

We will also be attending the dam run.

Just don't look at your depth gauge, it was an eye opener. :eek

Don't got one, 12 years or so we pretty much walked my buddies lavey craft all the way to park moabi cause we left Havasu late, couldn't see, didn't know that area well and kept hitting the bottom:)

Years ago, my friends and I were up river in Big River area way late and lost track of time and daylight. We ended up floating all the way back to Lost lake from Big river, it took us 4 hours, luckily we had plenty of adult beverages. We never once had to fire up to move the boat from hitting the edges of the river. WE HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST!!!! 90 degree evening probably and a group of about 10 or so. Dang that was fun!

Just a thought. Keep the date for the Dam run the same since it's an early morning / afternoon event. Those dam to dam peeps can meet up later at Topock with the mooners and compare their boating adventures... Didn't read the whole thread looks like it's covered...

Last time I ended up in the reeds lol. Had to pull the boat out and correct our path lol.

That's why we are going on this day when the moon starts at 6:30 and is full by midnight. I'm not planning on leaving Topock until 11:45 - 12:00 then partying at a couple stops on the way home.

If this goes down on the 5th I'm in with several others.
We'll be at London Bridge Resort for a week starting on the 4th and this would fit well with the trip.

Sounds like fun, I'd come but the street lights would be on, past my bedtime.
Let the Damn Dam run, run.
Let the night ride people do their thing! We can have 2 events in one day! Better yet, have the Damn Dam people plan a night trip on July 8th! :D
