My daughter is a senior and to graduate she has to take a practical art so she signed up for theater. She just got assigned a group project of reenacting the Columbine shooting without props.

Wife is against it, I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's odd because most of the victims were seniors amongst other reasons.

Daughter felt weird when they were reading the script but is ok with it because she needs the grade.

What do you guys think?

What's there to reenact? Is there vid footage of them walking around in trenchcoats shooting people? Or do they mean the aftermath?

Going with WTF times 10000.
I’ll take the F. Thank you.

That said. How is it being portrayed.
With class and respect for those who lost lives or
Sensationalizing it.
Big difference IMHO

They get 4 chairs, no other props, no makeup, no costumes.... that's all I know right now

So what are her true feelings?
Is she uncomfortable with it?
Is she willing to give up what she might think is ok or not ok.
To get to Baylor?

I am not judging in the least. We all have decisions to make. Some suck. But we make them for our future.

I think glamorizing school shootings is the biggest problem with school shootings! Doing a reenactment only gives credibility and fame to the whole event, and any other school shooting that’s ever happened. I can’t believe the school would allow that! I would march into the principals office, and then the school board meeting.

Did the teacher give a reason why this subject? You would think they’d expect some pushback and would have a reason for it, other than being a weirdo.
Maybe talk to counselor or principal about the subject and see if there is another class?

Sounds like.
So do it for the grade ?
Not her beliefs.
Like she is not sure where to stand or when to say this isn’t right
Or
It will be done with huge respect so I’m okay with it.
I’m just throwing it all out there.
I just hope hope what ever “she” decides she is good with later

Can she change what she has to do to graduate? Surprised she needs to do anything with a 4.3 GPA.

Forgive my ignorance, I think my GPA was probably .43

Ask the teacher if she has permission from any of the parents of the students involved in Columbine.
Always turn progressive liberal commie fucks against themselves, its glorious to watch.

There are some great teachers, and there are some shitbag teachers. I think I know what kind this one is…..

Turns out the director is a professor from a local university that is helping the teacher

She doesn't like it but will do it. She obviously feels weird since she brought it up

Practical art is required

What in the hell?

This seems extremely inappropriate. It really seems like an attempt to glamorize that heinous act, or worse, inspire a similar event.

What were the other assignments in class? Reenact 9/11? Reenact the Vegas shooting? Geeze.

I'd be marching my ass down there to have a discussion with that "teacher" and the principal. I'd be inclined to bring it to the attention of local law enforcement as well, as that teacher needs to be on the radar, in my opinion.

Didn’t think of all those.
I have to agree with you.

Can you talk to district head, tell them she has no option if she wants the GPA.
Then let them know you will be discussing with the media.
There should be options, another project. She should have a voice in this.
I'd tell my kid to not do it. Then let's school know if it affects the GPA you go to school district. To local news.
To a columbine victims group, to a lawyer. Shit on and on

@4Waters I think you know what needs to be done, as stated by many members on here.

I'm obviously pro law enforcement and 100% against glorifying any of these heinous acts. The ONLY appropriate thing to do is remember those who lost their lives and the families that had to endure those horrific events. There is NOTHING artistic about this whatsoever. Period.

More info

The the script is called Columbinus, they are only doing a small part 10-15 minutes long.

I'm thinking of sending an Email to the principal to ask the teacher about the topics for those assignments and if he is ok with all the topics. There are groups doing comedy, drama....

The mental health of these kids is definitely a consideration, not all kids have a strong support system at home.

My wife texted a mom of one of the other kids that is playing one of the shooters, they are a very red family.

Just found out that the other shooter is being played by a trans kid😳
OK, you are punking us right?
Of all the subject matter in the world this is what they go with? Why can't they do 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or Lewis and Clark or some shit?

I'd ask for a meeting and let them know this is fucking bullshit.

I’d be talking with the District administrator, and immediately, not the school. Talking with the teacher could very well make things difficult for your child. And I’d make it very clear that if your child is subject to any backlash, a lawsuit would follow.

No way I’d be nice and give the teacher or principal a break on this. There’s too much at stake.

I could tell right away that my daughter wasn't ok with this but the other kids were so she felt peer pressure to say she was OK with it. I finally got her to admit that and she has decided to email the teacher that she didn't want to be the one that said no.

We still haven't heard from the other mom as I'm pretty sure they are having a similar conversation

I'd be extremely concerned about that and the fact that it's guaranteed more than one video will be made of the performance.

In today's digital world, that could be twisted and misconstrued later to the detriment of your daughter.
Another strong point

But but but ….. about the weather ? Fantastic!

I think I might send an anonymous E mail to one of the more “ true “ local news stations …

That way it won’t touch your daughter…

Red flag for a parent IMO. I'm wondering who's idea was this assignment, the so called professor's or the effed up teacher's?🤔
