MDX is a great vehicle. I’ve had one if you’re real tall it probably won’t work.
Give a serious look at other midsize SUVs that are a plug-in hybrid coming out it’ll be worth the money.

The Tiguan is similar size to the RDX, the MDX is reasonably larger. I had an RDX and it was a fantastic small SUV. I would not hesitate to get a MDX. I also recently drove a Tiguan. It was fine, but I found it to be loud inside.

I am all in on BMW at the moment. Maybe its due to the service at my local dealer but i would consider X5 if i was in the market for a mid size. Love my X7

Is a mdx a mid size?…tiguan, yes. RDX would be more comparable?

If you need “full” size i’d look at Audi Q7. I will never not own one. I just got rid of my bmw X7 and it was a bus compared to my audi. I have almost zero positive things to say about the X7 besides good riddance 😬

Sucks about your X7. We have had a great experience with ours.

What year X7 and what were some of the issues?

Had a 2008 MDX and now on our 2nd RDX.
We have the Advanced A Spec package and more options than we need.
Daughter has the new MDX and loves it for the extra room for her big dog
RDX has plenty of power for a 4 cylinder turbo and I think it's a bit sportier looking.
1st RDX was 2WD and now we have AWD. I can tell a bit of a power diff and about 1 to 2 mpg loss.
That would be my first complaint if for me being a lead foot only 20+ average mpg. Maybe 22 on a good day
The small tank has us fill up instead of making a round trip to our vaca home and kind of a pain
We are an Acura family and I can hook you up with our good friend

Lexus RX dominates sales in the luxury midsize suv segment. Might be worth a look.
X-2 for Lexus…wife has a NX450h+(plug in hybrid) and aside of the newly acquired door ding we really like it. She previously had a 13 Cayenne Diesel which was a great SUV,but having the ability of pure electric (52 miles) then having the ICE to bypass the charging stations. The RX was considered but didn’t need the slightly extra size.

Stay away from VW is my advice. Loved the TDI in the one we owned but it was an electrical nightmare from day one. Ended up selling it after only a couple of years after it ruined a road trip.

I agrees as above noted, at least look at the X5 doesn’t it to be a loaded one and I would look at the plug-in hybrid see if you qualify for that $7500 federal tax credit that’s huge if you’re California resident you might even get more money. Send me a message if you need a connection.
make sure you look at the 2024 and drive it!

Insane quality.

FYI; Anyone considering the BMW X-5 E Plug In Hybrid and is eligible for the $7,500 IRS federal tax credit needs to purchase by 12-31-23. BMW looses that credit due to the changing content rule, as well as the Ford Mach E and a few other cars. Some may regain it later with USA made component changes.

My mom has the Lexus and that grill is ugly! It does have a ton of nice features but isn’t that fun to drive it kinda lacks any feel. For her and her 90yr old husband it’s been a great car but for me it’s just meh.

This is there last car so reliability was the main reason they bought it they won’t and don’t use any of the cool features it has even as hard as I’ve tried to get them to they won’t. All the phone and controls are set for how I like it set up. They still call when they’re on the way to visit to ask me for routes around traffic even though they could push one button and ask the car for assistance they refuse!

Lexus/Toyota if you are going to purchase and keep it. If it's a lease then reliability does not matter much get what looks fun at the time.

VW and Audi's love going back to see their dealer.

We really like our 2020 Pilot.

We've had 3. They are tough to beat for being extremely practical. Latest is a 2018.
I can't recall any problems that needed a dealer repair with any of them. They dont win any fuel economy awards but if you change the oil & filter at 5-7k and timing belt before 150k - they'll go forever (my son's got our first one with almost 450k on it).
Quite a bit more room inside than an MDX but with kids now gone - we'll probably get an MDX next.

Wife has the GV70 and loves it. Great car for the money and you can't beat the 10 year 100000 mile warranty. It has the turbo 4 cylinder and it is pretty damn quick.

My wife has a Toyota Highlander and we love this car. It's perfect both around town and on road trips. We haven't had one problem with it whatsoever, and have put almost 70K miles on it. I would buy this car again hands down over anything else.

While I do agree that Toyota/ Honda make vehicles with above-average reliability, I will say that my old man has a ‘19 VW Atlas that has been 100% trouble free and reliable since he purchased it new.

My wife just bought a new suv.. She went with the lexus rx350. She didnt care for it at first but after listening to me and doing her research she loves it.. Toyotas in general have the best reputation for longevity out of all other manufactures. My wife used to only drive BMW's and will not go back. They look great but the headaches from her last 3 previous BMW's shes done with them.. I dont think you could go wrong with the MDX or RDX. I think thats your best bet out of the two options. Another option that i love is volvo.. They build a great and very comfortable SUV.. What ever you choose im sure the wife will love..

You still need to qualify for the credit.

We've got the 2020 GMC Acadia w/ Denali trim, downsized from the Tahoes that we've had for near 20 years. Our 2020 has all the bells and whistles we need, and some we don't. But now, we are looking at re-upsizing back to a Tahoe or Yukon. Even though it's just me, Kathy, and the two Bassets, it's a little cramped on long trips. (I'm writing this from Eastern Oregon, so it's fresh on my mind.) Dogs take up the back (w/3rd row seats folded down) and luggage, gifts (it IS Christmas, ya' know), etc. get stuffed in the back seat.

I absolutely LOVE the Acadia, except for the size thing. I also think it's a pretty nice looking vehicle.

SHAMELESS PLUG: In lieu of trade-in, if anyone's interested, ours will be going up for sale next month. under 25,000 miles. Religiously serviced, zero damage. Looking at around $35,000 (mid range KBB estimate)

Not having a good dealer network was another reason I sold our VW. We were out in the middle of the desert when it threw a code. None of the shops in the area had a scan tool that was compatible with VW. Havasu not having a VW dealership was another problem because we could not backtrack and have a dealer look at it. I was on the phone with the dealer in Orange County trying to talk to a mechanic to troubleshoot it. After more than an hour we decided to just drive back to SoCal instead of risk being stranded in the middle of nowhere. I won't buy a vehicle that does not have a dealer in Havasu now.

I bought a vw atlas. Biggest mid size suv. Germanish engineering. Drives well. I like the vr6 engine design. Been 110k miles. No major issues….yet. Lol

Got the base model…slapped an r-line badge and 22’s. Wifey doesn’t know (or care) the difference

Not discounting the quality, it just wasn’t for me. And the dealership experience is top notch. I couldn’t get comfortable in it mainly. And the cargo area was worthless for such a large vehicle. Tires every 5,000 miles. 2 sets of brakes and rotors (warranty). Everything else that went wrong was covered through warranty (like antenna fin leaking and wiping out some electronics)

My wife loved it. Kids are in booster seats now, Probably get an X5 next year.

Wife has a Mazda cx9. 125k on the clock zero issues besides a hood latch we had to replace. It has been great. The nex cx90 is really nice and hauls ass.

I do agree the cargo area is a bit small for the size, about the same as our explorer.

Suck about the tires. I’ve read people making the dealer do alignments to help correct wear.

Wouldn’t want to deal with car seats in it. We opted for rear buckets this go around.

If your hauling more than 4 and they are tall, or larger than the norm and you prefer a muscular appearance it's hard to go wrong with a Durango. I've had mine since 2020, no issues at all with it and is still fun to drive for an SUV. Built on the Jeep platform, RT trim delivers a sporty handling package and interior to match. It also has a not common in the segment transfer case that can be set to haul mode. i.e. Neutral, towed behind a motor home. Mine has just about every option available and has performed flawlessly. I still recall my wife noticing the Alcan tera on the seat belt receiver and commenting on it being a luxury vehicle. Small details that matter to some, I like the HP/ TQ, snarl of the exhaust and perforated cooled seats and 8700 pound towing capability.

Just depends on what matters the most to you.

In my mind if it doesn't have 3 rows it isn't a mid size.

Wife has an RDX (our second), great car and hauls the mail if you put it in sport mode with premium fuel. Even without checking all the boxes for drive modes it is pretty zippy around town. But it does get cramped on a trip with the 4 of us and luggage, no room for the dog. I'd look at the MDX at a minimum.

I haven't given up on my 1st Gen Acadia, which is bigger than the current production models. the 3rd Gens are on the way and the Acadia is returning to the larger body style. My car is perfect for the 4 of us and the dog plus baggage, hard to go back to smaller platform.

I've been shopping for a replacement for a couple years now and just can't find anything I love enough to take on a $800/mo payment. I'll probably end up with either an MDX (when the current generation start coming off lease) or a Mazda.

Likewise with my Acadia. Called Jay, but he couldn't find one with everything I wanted. Ordered from the factory, around the 20th of November, 2019. He said hopefully it would be in, right after the New Year. Surprised both of us when he called 2 weeks later & said it would be in before Christmas. Delivered it on 12/21/19.

Nissan Murano. We've had three of them with no issues. The latest is a 2024 Platinum in Blue with cream interior. We live in snow country and the AWD is great.
Check them out!

The Lexus RX is a nice car, but it is a boring drive, but that’s from coming from owning a BMW 550i prior. After about a year we went back to another BMW.

How are the Genesis GV80? I think they are a sharp looking SUV. I would have looked at those if they qualified for sec 179.
