Damn, that's great news and I'll have to dig into that. Hmmm, maybe "Plan A" isn't a bust after all :) Everything is there waiting for me, except a few sticks nailed together :p

Arizona is passing a law that only allows those who came here prior to 65 to stay.

All others, Arizona is closed.... :)

Very good suggestion, Thanks :) My ole best buddy's widow relocated to Toccoa, GA. after his passing and selling their farm in south/central GA. With the Savannah River and Lake Hartwell close, would seem good boating could be enjoyed as well.
Being SD inland, there's no lack of heat during the summers for sure, but being on a hill with a strong coastal influence, we enjoy rather mild usually frost-free winter temps.
But the Santa Ana winds and inevitable fires drive me bonkers, already lost one house, don't want to do that again ---- that being my primary motivation for leaving.
Our current back up plan is, fires start, we pack up and head for our Havasu place, that makes it all better :D

I like Lake Hartwell a lot. A little too warm in the summer. We are in negotiations on a house in Tennessee on Kentucky Lake. Been here 2 weeks. Humidity is not bad at all. Some days it is higher but when you are in the water you don't care. Kentucky Lake is a big ass lake and a lot of places to explore.

Our house was in Jamul in eastern San Diego county. We were 1100 ft up, so we got the coastal breezes. Didn't like the winter mornings and it took a while to come up in temp.

I like your back up plan. Ours will be about the same. Hurricane hitting Florida and we head to Tennessee or my sons in North Carolina.

My wife, being a bit younger still enjoys her job, wants to work about two more years, at which point this internet window shopping needs to show results.

I agree on Kentucky Lake, I spent an afternoon checking listings there and liked several. I like that from that lake you can just keep on boatin and exploration could virtually be endless. Two things that bug me about Lake Hartwell, that lake changes elevation radically, I can see where entire arms could be dry during the winter. Also after searching damn near every listing on the both the Georgia and SC sides, I'd fire all the architects and probably be forced to build. Oh well, this is the fun part, gets real when you write the deposit check.
I'm up north above Lake Hodges backed up to the San Dieguito River Park, so it's kinda like living in a wild life sanctuary. I liked Jamul, some very nices places, obviously fire country as well. Did several projects at the Jamul Primary School years ago.
Any particular Kentucky Lake areas that stand out ?
Enjoy your life quest :D

"Kingman has great medical facilities and the hospital is connected to the Mayo Clinic."
Did your doctor advise you of this ?
The reason I ask is, our ranch is in the Peacock mountains about 27 miles from Kingman proper. As I understand it from my ranch neighbors, for most anything requiring a specialist (Doesn't almost everything now-a-days ?) they end up in Phoenix or Vegas. That for the most part specialists were hard to come by in Kingman. This has been one point of concern for us moving there full time. So if that's no longer the case, I'm certainly interested. Been a couple of years since the last conversation I had about it, so times do change and even Kingman is coming of age.
At the advise of a long time friend of ours, I needed to take care of a matter on my left diabetic foot and was about to go to the wound care center here in Havasu. She said in NO round about way, to get my A$$ to Kingman to have it fixed. They patched her up in a month and a half when she had been dealing with Havasu's wound care for 18 months. I checked the one here out and Holy Crap completely different approach to my problem. I stuck with her and the results couldn't have been any better. WONDERFUL people all around.
The wife had to be looked at the ER here in Havasu and had very good care with no problems at all.
I guess it all matters what ails you and what people you see.

Checking the KRMC website, it sure appears they've added numerous specialties unavailable in the past. Nice to see, considering how the area is continuing to grow.

My wife is kinda a kook. She has to get the "feel" of the lake/area before she will conciser buying there. So, we had to travel all over the last 2 summers. We have been to High Point Lake in North Carolina, Lake George NY, Lake Champlain, Lake Erie, Lake Higgins and Houghton MI. At this point I told her I will not buy in a "blue" State. We also decided against going to far north as it shortens the summer and we hate cold. Then we hit Norris Lake and Douglas Lake TN. Lake Harwell, Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair GA. This year we hit Lake Marion SC, Lake Cumberland KY, Lake Barkley and Lake Kentucky.

We like Kentucky Lake better than Lake Barkley. Kentucky is cleaner. Out here they can get Mayflies. They can be annoying and do not last long, but they are a good indicator of how clean the water is. Mayflies mean cleaner lake.

As far as areas. We like the Murry and New Concord areas of Kentucky. In Tennessee we like Paris as far as being near a city. Big Sandy is less populated. The house we are negotiating on is in Big Sandy. Thought we were going to walk from the deal, but got a text late last night from realtor saying they might come down to my number. Will know today. If not, we leave tomorrow and will look again next summer. We will be going near Lake Lanier in our travels next week and may check it out if we don't buy this house.

One thing that did surprise me a little is cost. I know CA is expensive, but we weren't sure how much more it cost. When looking at houses I would say to my wife. Kitchen needs new granite. So 10-12K. Realtor who does design work too says no more like 5-7K.

Before we moved to Jamul we had a house in 4S Ranch up near you. My son went to Jamul Intermediate, Oak Grove and Steele Canyon. Really loved Jamul and have some great friends there. We were just so over CA, We did rent our house out for 2 years just in case we didn't like traveling or we couldn't find other states that we liked. Sold house at the beginning of this year.

Fixed it for ya :D

It's crazy when a State that currently has a $22 Billion dollar surplus wants to tax it's primary source of tax revenue to the point that it has to relocate to survive! What the state should really be doing is Lowering Taxes or providing its tax paying citizens a Rebate!
That's not a surplus. They just haven't found a pocket it fits in yet.

If passed, businesses with 50 employees or less would be exempt. So would agricultural land.
Don't be fooled...

The tards know they can't just boot prop 13, but they can chip away at it.

Once the first chip is carved out, the whole thing will fall eventually.

Just like they did with Pismo Beach.

Baby steps. At first...
This

Explain this? It doesn't make any sense at all. What if you rent out the building?
Exactly! This isn't a business tax, it's a property tax. There aren't that many commercial property owners that have over 50 employees. That's a bullshit loophole. If passed with that in it, I'm sure it'll also have a loophole for all the puppeteers err..... Large corporations that constantly benefit from the loopholes in all those laws that get passed by the left.

Have you considered one of the Hawaii Islands? I saw many happily retired couples on our trip there this past week and spoke to couple of them. They loved living there.

I could see myself living there for part of the year. talked to someone that lives in Colorado and Hawaii 1/2 the time. best of both worlds.

Here you go. Don't move to Texas if you don't like property taxes. ;) But they also don't have state taxes. :D

I need mountains in my life. Texas just doesn't do it for me . been there handful of times .
its not just the high cost of living here in califonia . once I sell out . I wont have to worry about to much.
its everything that is wrong with this state.

I check prices in Mammoth every time I go skiing there. Houses are pricey there also. I’ll keep staying at the Alpenhof Lodge. :p

Came within a signature on the dotted line of relocating to the Big Island in mid 90's. Made one more trip to seal the deal, by now we'd visited numerous times over the previous few years, vacationing and property hunting etc. During that week, we came to realize the island had gotten much smaller and came with a lot of limitations.
We came to realize, that that island along with the others, are wonderful & magic places to get away from the outside world and vacation and that's how they're best served. :( So we flew home and here we are all these years later --- for some reason I find illusive, we've never returned
I have followed the real estate prices and HOLY SHITTE :eek::eek::eek:

Exactly what we want to do. Live there 3-4 months a year. Maui is still not that crowded which is what I like. I like the Kihei area.

Mammoth is still California, property isn’t cheap there. My folks just bought a tiny old condo in the low 3s.

Check out Gardenerville NV. My in-laws moved there about 15 years ago and love it. Close enough to Reno and Carson for city shit, but still kinda small town.

We have friends that live on the big island. Healthcare is a problem on the islands they say. They fly back to San Diego if they need something done. Not sure why, but they said something about cost of living vs what the Dr. can earn.

My cousin moved there 5 years ago but kept a little 1BR condo in Cali. He flies back once a month and works 8 days straight on the mainland which seems to work well for them as it breaks up the reality of being stuck on "the rock". They have family there, love the ocean/ free diving, drive the customary Tacomas, bought a foreclosure fixer on a couple acres 5 years back that they remodeled, and are 100% happy. I keep a board at their house, and can't wait to visit more often in years to come, but to me being stuck in one place leads real quick to the classic "the grass is always greener" mentality --

No need if you're on the Big Island ---- Gentry's Kona Marina, Honokokau Harbor, Hawaii, has ---- wait for it ----
RACK STORAGE :D:D:D:D ;) (Sorry, couldn't resist:p)
You're going to want a different type of boat in Hawaii than in Colorado anyway, guaranteed :)

Your 32 would be fine for casual boating and some light-duty fishing on the Leeward side (Kona, Lahaina, etc) of the Big Island and Maui (Season depending).
But most, even die-heart skippers with 50+ footers, don't do island hopping unless traveling in groups or on very abnormal laid-down days. The waves, winds and converging currents on most days create seas that make island hopping serious business, for even the seasoned pros.

I stood on Shipwreck Beach (Aptly named due to the wrecked ships) on the island of Lanai one afternoon and was spellbound. Peering out across the Molokai Strait (The passage between Lanai and Molokai) you could see large commercial vessels miles offshore slamming head on into wave after wave, covered in spray with each encounter and struggling to make forward progress. The normally calm lee side lake like conditions give way to some extremely ugly conditions once you try to stick your bow where the prevailing winds blow.

In the mid-90's my wife and I, always looking for a boating adventure, found a guy in Kihie Maui, with a nicely rigged and equipped Ocean capable, 14' Zodiac he'd rent.
It was a beautiful morning when we set off from the Makena Park launch ramp, bound for the Molokini crater ONLY 4 miles offshore. The ride over was awesome, 50 HP outboard running perfect, water laid down flat, a perfect boating morning. We'd brought tanks and made two dives, we ate, we relaxed in the beauty of being anchored inside the remnants of a volcano.

From our perspective you could make out the mainland and the seas were appearing progressively more choppy as the clocked ticked away. We decided to head back before it got much rougher.

Soon after we'd left the lee of the volcano crater conditions rapidly deteriorated and continued to worsen. About half way back I was forced by the wind waves to change course so I was quartering the wind and waves. No Problem, we finally reached the mainland shore, but well south of our haul out point.
We decided to take a weather break and motored into the most beautiful bay imaginable. Peering down into the water it's as if we were floating in an exotic aquarium.
Had to at least snorkel, then enjoy a few snacks, didn't want to leave.

But leave we had to, we had a date at the launch ramp to keep. So off we went, piece of cake, only had to go maybe 3 miles at the most.
Let me tell you, once we stuck our bow outside that serene bay all holy hell broke loose. My wife and I have a shit-ton of boating experience having owned our own Sports fishing boat in San Diego. This few mile trip, dead into the howling wind and waves turned into a friggin horror movie that seemingly wouldn't end.

On several occasions, even with my wife damn near strapped in at the bow (Ummm, yeah, she was the bow ballast, lol :eek: :p) the wind stood us straight up before slamming us back down. I tried to zig and zag, didn't help, we were crashing hard into wave after wave, yet peering over at the shore, it seemed we weren't even moving.
Looking seaward I noticed we were pacing a large tourist filled trimaran, each wave causing it to disappear under the spray --- they weren't having any better of a time than we were.
An hour later, yes, it took us an hour to go at most 3 miles, we pulled into the safety of the small harbor, soaking wet and I shit you not, several locals who'd been fishing and had seen us coming, stood up and gave us a standing ovation. They also wouldn't approach, pretty sure they thought we were just that bat-shit crazy, lol :p:p:p

Sorry for rambling on, one of those memory itches I had to satisfy. :):)

I'm aware of how the sees can get. Lived in Oahu for 3 years. And yes was talking about group runs.
