Thanks. Possibly down the road here. I already have the full hydraulic steering. Considering a number of things with the boat in the future

Here's a few pic's of the progress on the 27 Schiada resto, the motor was set in today for heat exchanger mock-up.

As cool as it is to restore a unicorn type boat like this. It is still a 1983 hull, that there is not a whole lot of info on. What happens when you water test it? What if it rides and handles poorly? What if it is unstable at speed? There is a reason they stopped building them. I bet this hull is not going to perform well with those stand off boxes.

There is soooo much money going into this boat. I would have ordered a brand new Hallett, Howard, or Nordic.

Is it just me?

You can see a Hallett, Howard, or Nordic every minute in Havasu/Parker.

Some people prefer Ferrari's and some prefer 57 Chevy's.

I think it's cool because it's different. I agree with you, I hope they can get it to perform.

Talking to Charlie and Lee they made a shit load of changes to get the maroon one to semi work. I think they even offered to share their knowledge. I'm sure they can help get this one going also. At the end of the day, it doesnt look like he can't afford to spend the money to make it right.

That being said the hull doesn't work very well without some huge modifications. That's why they chopped the mold up in the first place.

Oh and why not another brand? Have you seen a 27 in person? They are beautiful.

True, but a car/truck is not an apples to apples comparison with a boat. Say if it was an old 16 ft flat bottom. It is what it is. You won't be taking it in rough water. Even if you were to build a resto-mod 57. Chances are it will not see road course action. Did that come out right?

A boat like this, rigged the way it is, the owner is looking for speed, handling and performance.

I know I would.

I agree! I have been on the water my entire life. Have had the pleasure of experiencing some amazing boats growing up. Fred Inman had two or three new boats a year. He would always take us out.

It's cool to see how the inmates always bring such positive vibes when someone chooses to build something different...

Rigged for and used for are completely different animals. Most schiadas rarely leave the trailer so although they they have the show, they aren't required to have the go. It's a schiada thing, most won't understand. [emoji6]

Lol. I'm just being a smart ass. Honestly, it's these questions that make this place what it is and keep the convo going. Build threads are what first drew me to this place but, it's the banter that kept me here [emoji1303]

are you kidding me? the legendary 21RC has been around longer with the same bottom and it works well to this day.

but I agree with you that having a knowledge base on setup from 100's of previous boats makes setting up something like this a challenge to get the best performance from it. and you don't see tons of revisions to other manufactures bottom designs...its all in the setup.

I love the fact that this is a very rare and one off boat. anyone can go buy a new whatever and be just like everyone else with a different color scheme. I know the owner will do whatever it takes and has the resouces to make this boat work as he has been around performance boats and racing for countless years.

this to me is the essence of custom and high performance boats.

I look at it like this : Nordic is amazing balls at what they do. I am positive they have it well in hand, since they rebuilt the entire boat from the ground up.

They will have planned to blueprint the bottom and deal with all the things you are concerned about. We're talking alot of money going into this boat, it would have been discussed I am sure.

The real thing is it's a fucking 27 Schiada.....Made New.

Can't buy class like that, it's made.:D

Are there any classic muscle cars you would really like to have? I'd really like a restored Camaro SS at some point. I know there are bunch of new cars that cost less & perform better, but I still want that Camaro. :D

That being said the hull doesn't work very well without some huge modifications. That's why they chopped the mold up in the first place.

To clarify the only mold for the 27' was the top mold. As stated in other threads (or maybe in this thread earlier) the 27 was built using an insert in the 31' mold. They also built a 26' with twin outboards the same way. It goes without saying that the bottom of a boat built 4 feet shorter than it's intended length will need a lot of work to make right. I understood that all 3 (I believe that there were only three made) had major bottom work before leaving the factory in the first place. These boats are beautiful and were built a little ahead of their time. The fact that there was never a 27' bottom mold made them very labor intensive which calculates to very costly to manufacture. This is one beautiful boat and if it doesn't work the way Gene wants it to work at first, you can rest assured that it will work just fine when it's done. One of the 27's is the maroon one that Kruger(sp) and Mondorally owned the other was raced in offshore competition (with a modified deck) did quite well for years (it will do fine in rough water). I can't wait to see it running around Parker. Not that I could afford one, but I kind of wish the bigger new Schiadas kept some of the classic lines like this 27'

Oh and I have one of those "trailer queen" 21's

I think there's zero doubt that Gene will have this boat set up to work perfectly. Like a few people have said, there isn't anything like a 27' Schiada...quite frankly it's hard to even describe how cool they are.

I do know that Kruger's maroon 27 handled really well! It was rock solid at virtually any speed and water condition, but I'm not sure how much work it took to get there. However, with the Schiada pedigree, it shouldn't take too much tweaking to make it near perfect.

Its really cool that this guy is giving new life to this older boat with classic lines. I think for some, having something nobody or very few people have is a huge part of the attraction. I know for myself, having the same boat for 16 years, that I have upgraded over time, has been very rewarding. On most of our trips to the river, we wont see another boat like it.

I am looking forward to the finished product. So far its turning out really nice. I am sure it wont be perfect at first but it sounds like the owner will get it where it should be.

I wish he would let me get more video of his work, it's pretty impressive to see a piece of aluminum stock turn into a fine crafted functional
part of a badass boat.

Vandy can make some chips fly, and a cool dude to boot. Can't believe Gary has not stepped up to an automated machine after all the years of making one off boat parts.

When each part is project specific there not a big time advantage when you take into consideration programming and set up time for just a few pieces
