Bummer is that the side effects take a few weeks to totally wear off but at least I'm over the hump.:thumbsup

.

The way I used to look at it was, All the times I SHOULD have been hung over like a bad dog and wasn't, I was paying for with chemo hang overs.

Well inmates, it's game time. Checking into the hospital at 6am for the TME Surgery (remove a section of my rectum where the tumor is). Looking at a temp olostomy bag for 6 months when I wake up. Then reattaching the colon to the remaining rectum in 6 months after my 4 months of chemo are done.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been depressed for the past week facing this surgery, dealing with my wife's car accident, and all the lost income I'm facing as a result. Shit has been taking its toll on me. Part of me still does not want to do this surgery. I feel so damn healthy right now that it is counter intuitive to willfully subject your body to such a traumatic event. But my family, friends, and docs all recommend it. It gives me better odds of not having a recurrence. The downside is the chance that I will never have normal bowel/bathroom habits again--frequent trips to the bathroom like an old man. I'm having a hard time accepting that at 44 years old.

Anyway, enough about that. I just wanted to check in and ask for your prayers again. My scans/tests last month came back showing reduced tumor size and no lymph nodes involved so that was excellent news that your prayers no doubt helped with. I need this surgery to go well so please keep the prayers coming. I'll be in the hospital for 3-6 days but I have wifi in my room so I'll hopefully be checking in by the end of the week. My parents are in town watching the house and the dog and helping out so we have meals and stuff covered. Thanks to those of you that offered to help.

Talk to you in a few days:thumbsup

All the best wishes and good thoughts are going your way. The great news is that you went for a check-up and it was diagnosed early.

I was at a Hospital years ago and there was a terrific painting of Jesus whispering in a Surgeons ear in the Operating Room. There are many whispers coming your way this evening and tomorrow.

God Bless and get better quickly!

Hey John,
I keep looking at that pic of you on your KTM in your avatar. You and I have a lot in common, boats, KTM's, riding. I just heard the news you got a curve ball during surgery today. Fuck it! Not the end of the world, just more treatments. You can do this, you have to. I was scared to death of Doctors and needles before my near fatal motorcycle accident November 28th, 2011. Now, phffft, bring it on cause I get better every day and things are just a little different.
I'll tell you this, I spent 6 months up all night reading every post on RDP. This site was the best therapy I had. I'd visualize launching my boat, cruising the river and Lake Mojave and Havasu. I'd lay in bed all doped up on pain meds and invent little scenarios and literally walk through every detail. You can't do it alone. Lean on your family, friends, and I hate to say it, but even these kooks here on RDP. :p:D
Someday, you're gonna want to get back on that bike, when you do, I have a little ride some of us do. It's the LA-Barstow-to-Vegas. Every Thanksgiving weekend. You've got a spot reserved, my treat, whenever that day comes. Lots of pics, videos and stories at the website too. www.LaBarstowVegas.com That makes for good reading during the down time.
So now you've got a little work to do, I look forward to reading about your progress. :thumbsup

John,
I have been following your situation here for some time now. I am not going to comment about what you are currently going through because i think it may be premature. However I will continue to pray for you and your family and trust that God has a plan for you! A few weeks ago you commented on a different thread when someone was looking for help and I remembered what you said about your faith being tested, but that you still believed that God has a plan for your life. Faith is a wonderful gift and like many others who are going through trials, I believe that sometimes it is a process that we have to go through first, before we truly understand what it means to put ourselves in God's hands and fully give ourselves to him.

A few weeks ago my sister sent me this devotional. One of her friends posted it on FB. He is a pastor at a local church. His family is going through many trials similar to yours. I hope it stirs your spirit the way it stirred mine. So many of the thoughts within this devotional are the same doubts and feelings I have been going through too. \

Trusting even when it appears you have been forsaken. Praying when it seems your words are simply entering a vast expanse where no one hears and no voice answers. Believing that God's love is complete and that he is aware of your circumstances, even when your world seems to grind on as if setting it's own direction and not caring for life or moving one inch in response to your petitions. Desiring only what God's hands have planned for you, waiting patiently while seemingly starving to death with your only fear being that your faith might fail. "THIS IS THE VICTORY THAT HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD". This is genuine faith indeed!

God Bless!!
