I have a Halo Bolt jump box that I got as a gift that has worked great for about 5 years until I tied to jump the water truck with it, now it won’t power up for jump starting, all the power ports work, it just won’t jump.
There are so many out there - I found a Wolfbox 4000a on Amazon for about $100. It’ll jump up to a 10L gas or diesel engine. Sounds impressive, but is it?

What are you guys using?

Wife and daughter have the Noco units and they work well but my Viking (HF) has more power and a better selector switch.

I use the Antigravity for home and the larger Noco for jumping trash trucks.

I haven't had to jump start anything in 20 years. What are you guys doing to kill batteries?

Sitting in a parking lot with music on lol.

I use it also for dump trailer when I forget to plug in charger. It also came in hand to test that powerwheels car I got my daughter lol.

I was stranded last month, first time ever I had no solution. Only car I have w/o cables. Car started fine, drove to destination, parked for 1.5 hrs......click, click.
No warning at all. 🤷‍♂️
Got lucky and found a lone snowbird, car packed to the gills willing to help. The fact his car was so loaded with "stuff" made me optimistic about him having jumpers😂😊

Sometimes shit just happens and your battery is dead - or you forget to change your battery switch when chilling on the water listening to tunes, then when you’re ready to take off you get the slow crank, then click, click, click. I always bring my jump box with me when I’m on the water.

NOCO here. The reviews were very hit or miss but I just keep making sure its holding its charge.

I definitely expect to be using it on the boat.

I got a Walmart brand. Used it once. Works better than jumper cables.

Too many older vehicles that perhaps sit a bit longer than they should.

I’ve got the bigger Noco and it works well.

I got one from Harbor Freight for $79, also has a compressor, floodlight, USB port and 12v outlet, works great and comes in handy for camping and road trips!

I struggle with the Noco's and I have 4. They kill themselves relatively fast so you have to stay up on the recharging.

I bought a 3000 Topdon and ended the need to worry about it. Its just better IMO and NOCO's are not cheap.

I have used it 4x in a year and have not recharged it yet.

I bought this one for my son as a Christmas gift. .

what if you need to jump a Tesla ????
It's a pain in the ass to get to the starter battery. If that 12v battery dies your dead in the water even if the big batteries have juice. I had to take apart part if the front to get access to open the hood to get to it. Nobody had 1 in stock except Tesla. Autozone, O'Reilly, napa nada. Tesla only warranties it for a year and it was like $250.

That’s actually cheaper than I thought it would be - a battery for a BMW is about $400 and you need to program it to the car and that’s an additional $200.

I used two of my Bosch cordless tool batteries and some 12/2 romex one time. Stuck on a jobsite miles from anywhere. It worked!

Perhaps the one you have merely burnt a fuse? Open it up and check..

This is interesting. Didja connect them in series or parallel?

To everyone who uses jump boxes on a regular basis....do you also go through alternators on a fairly regular basis?

Parallel I suppose. Two 18V drill batteries, each had a 12g wire from + and - run over to the truck battery terminals. Two assistants with me, one held the two cordless tool batteries, one held the wires to the terminals. Simply touched the wires to the battery terminals. Then I cranked and the truck fired up. I suspect my truck battery was just barely too low to turn the starter. I replace the truck battery the next day.

The Harbor Freight Viking 3400 does 12v and 24v and will jump start 16L diesel motor with a completely dead set of batteries. The negative is it’s big, bulky and heavy so not something you can carry around everyday.

Is there a small compact jumper that will start a dead diesel?

I have the NOCO GB70. Luckily haven't had to use it. Actually have not needed a jump in about 15yrs. I bought the NOCO as insurance. lol

I’m really happy w/ my NOCO GBX-45 …. 1250 amp.
Seems to be a good balance between size, power, features, and price.
I run gassers, so no experience w/ diesels.
I checked it for charge after reading this thread … it lit up all the way to full… but I plugged it in anyways…. 1/2 hour later & I had a solid green light. Had been sitting for 4-ish months. -

Was thinking the same thing. Maybe it hasn't been 20 years, but it's so rare that I'd have had to replace whatever I bought a few times before using it. I carry cables and a AAA card.
Battery in my truck was well over 10 years old. I don’t drive my truck often so I jumped it a few times before buying a new battery. I jumped a ladies car at the baseball field a few months ago. Used it to start a quad yesterday. New battery will be here tomorrow. Charging it to take camping

Water truck?
Noco GBX155 (4250 amp) or bigger.
I have a fleet of crap that seems to need jumped on a regular basis, from a 7.3 ford diesel, to a 10.8 liter Cummins, and a whole lot of small stuff in between. The GBX155 is what I have and it just seems to always work.
I put a smaller Noco GB70 in the wife's car that is a 4 cylinder gas engine but with a random draw that occasionally kills the battery-works good for that smaller engine.

I have:

(1) NOCO @ 1000A - had that for 5 years? Works great, it has started to degrade a little over the last year, but if you keep it charged it works well. I am surprised at times how much it will hold for a long period of time, weeks / months.

then I got:

(1) NOCO @ 3000A - had that for 3 years? Works great - bought this to jump my boat when it was weak. The 1000A "worked" but was about 1/4 the size of the 3000A resource. This holds a charge well.

I've also used it to jump my diesel trucks when they sit. I was surprised how well that worked!

I liked the NOCO products, so recently I replaced a 2 bank charger on my boat with a NOCO Genius 3 bank when I added a battery for the stereo alone. Not related to the jump boxes, but so far I like the products and have had no issues with 3 of their products. They also get banged around a lot, and the smaller one comes in handy for charging phones, portable speakers, etc when at the track or out in the field / woods / water, etc when no 110V is near.

(I'll look up the actual model/product#s and update)

I have the NOCO jump boxes in most of our vehicles. Used them to jump the boat on the sandbar, multiple other dead boats, motorhome that got drawn down, bobcat that sat for a while, my truck when I had a brake light issue that killed the battery, a couple RZR jumps for myself and others, jumped a lithium battery in a golf cart to get home, etc.

Great tool to have and nice to just leave it plugged in and you can ‘rescue’ yourself.

Their chargers are good but I actually prefer the Victron chargers.

I just got a GOOLOO 4000, left 2 cars sit too long and one of them has a draw on it, just thought i had it fixed at ford but i guess not. Yesterday the Sequoia with low battery fired right up with booster, other car with dead battery booster wouldn't start it, hooked it to truck still nothing added jumper and it fired right up.

Totally reminded me that my truck battery was getting weak. Going on vacation myself, so I went out and checked. Sure enough, gotta add it to the prep list. FML
