What a nice three days. Saturday was dicey as we have all read but Sat afternoon, Sunday was perfect. We motored through some gas on Sunday for sure.
Then it turned amateur hour for the Merrill's on Monday. After a nice solo cup of coffee drive down from Big Bend to the keys so I can use my stupid POS crapberry, I picked up the family, started our day with a morning float up by the dam. Kids, wife, and I swimming. Dog doing bow jumps and all is looking good. Drifted a little to far over to the CA side so I put a foot down and push. Big mistake. Nice cut toes. 10 band aids later (need 1st aid kit - noted) Dumb shit move 1.
Prime Rib Taco's - Roadrunner about 1:00pm. Place is packed. Maybe 150+ people on the dock bar but this is tradition for the kids and it has to happen. Luck, boat leaving, pull up right in front of the actual bar, daughter jumps out and starts to tie the bow line and my Black lab makes a leap for it, misses the dock, and hits the water between the boat and dock. 100 people screaming, your going to kill your dog, Fuck. A guy sitting at the picnic table runs over, leans down, and plucks her out. I was sitting in the drivers seat, using the shifter to keep peace with the freaking windy rollers and the boat behind trying to get settled. We looked stupid as fuck but we endured the heckling (we had some and well deserved I suppose), Dog stayed in the boat as she has about 20x before under the Bimini. So this is Dumb shit move 2. Pay attention to the dog. She's all good BTW. There is no better river dog for us. Swims like a fish.
Last run to the dam before leaving. Enjoying the added power of my exhaust make over. Running about 70 in the 1-2 foot wind blown crap in glass alley up river from River Lodge and BAM - broke the drive. Wind blowing a constant 30+ at this point, waiving our ski flag at passers buy...NOBODY HELPS - WTF? So here come the rocks and my freaking cut feet. At the last min a pontoon turns around and run in, I toss him a ski rope and were off. They say they can't take me far. Whatever.
Keep in mind if there was no wind I would have just floated back. We get to River Lodge front side and they just take the ski handle and toss it. So we swim I guess. Whatever. The wind is relentless so I decide to head into the store and the manager or maybe even one of the owners of River Lodge says no cab for you, I will just drive you over to Big Bend. SWEET! So props to River Lodge!
I did a crash pack (son and I) and went over and retrieved the boat. So was that Dumbshit move 3 - Don't break the drive? Well maybe that is what it is.
I don't know whats wrong with the drive yet but later today I will pop the cap and look. There is loose parts in there for sure.
But just to be clear I can't wait to go back. October rocks IMO. Parker can't scare me away.
