What has happened to our youth. I’m at Nekter now getting a juice. Total is $10.45, I give $11. The cashier is lost, I’m mean a min goes by, she looks at receipt, looks at change, the older lady making drinks comes to assist and quickly handled counting change.

But it’s everywhere , Chikfil, in n out, Home Depot are just a few. If you give them change, say like $6.06 on a $5.56 so you get 2 quarters they are lost, and have given me $1 change.

Very scary times when you can’t perform 3 rd grade math!

When I get the "stare" is simply tell them the correct change amount and they look at me like I am some kind of math wizard!🤣

Cause they don't teach basic math in grade school.... This fucking math that is taught is BS.

I also hate the fact that kids cannot use cash for school lunches, parent's need to put money on the students ID number so they can enter it when buying lunch. Kids have no idea what things cost and only think when you type in a code you get stuff. Money has no value to them.

It's the parents fault. You can't count on schools these days. Teach your kids basic skills such as reading a clock, simple math (adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division), counting cash and making change, etc.......

I remember my dad teaching us multiplication when we were 6 or 7 and he turned it into a game. He would just yell out across the house 6x8 and we would yell out the answer. It was fun but then he would also smack us if we got it wrong after a while lol.

I learned my multiplication tables and could recite them all. I bet very few kids could do that now.

Funny this thread popped up. I went to Mc D’s and got a couple of sausage biscuits the other day. It was 10.27. I gave her 20.27, I had change in my center console. She gave me 11.27 in change. I just laughed and drove to the next window. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Thanks to teaching to the lowest common denominator, this 3rd grade math is now 12th grade math.

Just imagine what the colleges and universities are dealing with. Their entrance students need about 4 years of remedial classes just to start the four years of actual college level work, but you gotta get them graduated in only 4 years.

Our schools have been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator.

All the fast-food restaurants have pictures of the food on the register, and God forbid if the cash register blanks out. Trying to get a millennial to figure out change is almost as hard as getting them to write a sentence that does not have emojis in them.

I do this too.. But sometimes they will think you're giving them the exact amount and forget about your 10 bucks in change, that's happened to me before. I'll sometimes verbalize "$20.27" to protect myself from them not realizing you get 10 bucks back.

There’s some fast food places and some POS systems that show a picture of each coin or bill, and the number of those to be given as change.

This is the same group of people who.....

cant cook for themselves
cant handle basic repairs / maintenance
cant interact in social situations
needs a safe space to escape to

"we" did this, "we" enabled this.

My thought when I left was that her drawer was going to be short, and she was going to get in trouble. Then I thought she probably deserves to be fired….sorry. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Or maybe they don’t hold them accountable to the penny like they did in the old days. They probably factor in human error.

McDonald’s seems to get the bottom of the barrel when it comes to working the register - I had an order that came to $12.75 so I gave the kid $23. He said that it was only $12.75 and wanted to give me back the $3. I told him this way instead of the ones I’ll get back $10 and 25 cents. It was like I showed him how a light switch works. If we go cashless and the power or internet go down there’s a whole generation lost.

When I was in high school I worked at Ralph’s and when I got promoted to cashier/clerk from boxboy we had to go to cashier school and count the change back to the instructor without hesitation before they could actually pass us to allow us to handle money in the store.

Hell yeah Ralph’s, I remember being a 75er at 17 making $12/hr in 1991 at the Downey store lol. Remember all the produce codes we had to remember going to cashier school.

I worked at the Live Oak store in Arcadia from 79-81. Scanners just came out and never scanned the same prices as on the shelves it was such a pain. All the produce codes we had to learn - I still remember code 69 was for white potatoes and 96 was loose carrots. I really hated dealing with the public.

Even bank tellers these days just type in the number and it’s spit out of a machine when they cash a check.

Back in the day I could count out a stack of bills so fast it was ridiculous.

It's not just the younger generation, I had a senior citizen get confused when I gave her $20.50 for a $10.50 purchase. She actually got angry with me when I said it's just a $10 bill back. Like I tried to jump over the counter and school her mad. It happens to all types/ages.

On a different note, I would have ~$2000 in cash and checks vs invoices and receipts in my tow book. I was upset if a dime was missing, I was proud of the fact that I would balance at the end of the week.

My dad did it with candy. Kids pay attention with candy involved. You only got the candy if you got the right answer.

He also taught me how piss in the toilet and not on the seat by tossing a few target Cheerios in the water 😁

I had to keep score during bowling league with the grease pen and the projector.

Bunch of drunk parents bowling on two lanes simultaneously and you have to keep track of it.

I had my boys calculate the bill and change from dinner. Each had a pencil and paper. The correct answer got to keep the change. If they both were correct, they split it.

Cash part won’t matter to them.
There won’t be any cash at some point.
The general lack of math skills will be a problem only depending on the type of device an idiot has available to them.
In other words they’ll have their math done for them, if they know the correct data entries.

I also did the "word of the day" . I'de fan the pages of a dictionary and let my daughter stick a finger in to select the word. Single syllables earned one dollar. Multiple syllable words earned a buck or two per syllables. By dinner time spell, pronounce, and giving the definition would get her paid. Vocabulary is an amazing thing. You can be dumb as a box of rocks, but still appear bright with a large vocabulary. Or visa versa!

Parents are partially to blame. They need to be involved and aware of what their kids are learning, and not learning. But, the teachers and their Admin know exactly what they are teaching. And also know what they should be teaching. Unfortunately, at one time many of those teachers and Admin were my generation. While in college and after they needed to find a way to stay out of the Vietnam draft. At least the guys did. The instructors and admin who followed continued down that New Education path. We’re really beginning to see the results of that now. Given current public education and their emphasis directions any future improvement seems highly unlikely.

I like this one too.
Me and wifey are gonna be proactive with our grand baby’s upbringing.
Don’t get me wrong, his parents are doing a phenomenal job but we have resources that they don’t.

Everybody gets a passing grade. As you said. Just keep dumbing it down until they are just fucking stupid. Or stupider if that’s a word.
Parents need to step back up and raise their kids. Not let these FN schools baby sit push an agenda

Sorry. My rant isn’t going any farther.
