Most all of us suffer being imprisoned during our lifetimes, some are forced to endure life sentences.
There are prisons far worse than those made of concrete and steel.

Being trapped in a dead-end job or a difficult situation, feeling like you cannot escape or change your circumstances.
Being stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts or behaviors, feeling like you cannot break free from them.
Feeling constrained or limited by societal expectations or societal norms, feeling like you cannot be yourself.
Being in a toxic or unhealthy relationship, feeling like you are trapped and cannot leave.
Feeling like you are in a prison of your own mind, struggling with mental health issues or anxiety.

Few of us are immune and everyone's experience of these situations may be different.
Some of these conditions are temporary.
Some feel like a life sentence, some really are.

"There are prisons far worse than those made of concrete and steel."

I've been "blessed" to have lost use of legs for a while, as well as loss of sight for a couple days. I'm close with someone trapped in a prison of his own mind, and spent time there as well.
I'd gladly walk off 20 years in a concrete prison, rather than a month or two in my own

When you feel overwhelmed, go fishing. I know it sounds crazy. Try it even if you don't know how. Buy some gear, bait, snacks and beverages and head out.
Balancing work, life, stuff, everybody's got stuff. Go fishing you still have the stuff, but you are currently, Dominating fishing. You may dominate staring at the mountain alot. Who cares, parked at the water's edge. Staring at the mountain. Bluegill, Catfish, Bass, are not that hard. 1/2 day, 3/4, or overnight boat, or a long twilight boat out of the harbor, only once have I not caught a fish. Spoiled in SoCal, so many lakes. Ocean. Awesome.

You may even get so excited about fishing while forgetting about your 'stuff,' you head out at dawn, forget your license, run home and come back up, the old guy next to you back at the lake says, "I saw that. Chuckle. Been seeing you come up here, tell you what. I'm fixin' to leave, you take my spot here on this end, cast right on over next to the buoy, right where that corner of the marina is. There's a deep hole right there. You'll limit out on Trout every time. See you round Son. Good luck."
"Wow. Thanks!"
Dominate.

I was raised trout fishing with my dad in the dark-30, cold, fall mornings up at Lake Arrowhead. I was pretty good for a young lad, but dad didn't like it when I got bored and ate all his Velvetta cheese he used for bait. 🤷‍♂️ 🤣 Plus it was always my job to clean the bastards. 🥴
26 years ago we sold our San Diego based sportsfisher, my entire collection of big game fishing equipment, and after almost 20 years of fishing big money Marlin tournaments, that was that.
I'd gotten so wrapped up in fishing I failed to realize I'd made my lovely wife a fishing widow. One day she shared that with me, asking if I'd consider doing something different, something we could do together as an example. 😣
Say no more, boat went up for sale and we ventured out exploring other options.
I fished tuna and marlin a few times sense on some friends boats, but mostly due to my estranged son and I being reunited. Getting him on on some big fish for the first time was extremely gratifying. Little did I know I was creating a fishing monster, big fish, little fish, he loves to fish.
My wife and I relocate all our recreation activities to Havasu, bought different toys but I've never felt the desire to fish.

My anxiety and stress relief is tending to my yard and I've got a lot of it to keep me occupied. 🥵 Although being retired, I have very little to stress about, other than the occasional age related game, "Name That Pain" 😖
Instead of fishing, my current hobby is trapping rodents, large, small, underground or surface, the neighbors love me. 🤣

Escondido! Rodents! Too funny T. That is a great story! "Ate all Dad's velveeta cheese!" Hooking up! with your Son.

San Diego County, SoCal, was paradise. Many a trip out of Fisherman's, Oceanside, Pt. Loma, SF, Dana Point. Tile Trends! Every year. Hooked my Boy too. Favorite thing to do, Kid's to Fish. Wanted to start up HS fishing teams, OG AD, said, "Yeah, that would be pretty cool,, but football.." Still think SoCal would be super doable. Dad's, Kid's, boats, lakes. Fish. Mom's and Girls can fish too. Watch out Boy's. Took many many years to finally smoke the MIL. Plastics, Shhh..:D
Colleges fish against each other in the upper midwest. High Schools too.

Met 2 younger guys out surveying yesterday, all excited and all up on the trout plants in the city lakes here in Levelland. Talked fishing locally, Lubbock, Buffalo lake. Lake Alan Henry, 90 miles. Ute lake, 300 miles, Santa Rosa lake, 230 miles. Lake Sumner, 150 miles. Lake Meredith, Walleye, 180 miles. See why we were spoiled in SoCal? lol. No Walleye though.

Mom's Cousin Bob worked me hard learning me, in 1968, 9, on his Gentleman avocado ranch off of Via Rancho Parkway. Only got caught down in Lake Hodges once... lol!
Raising my Boys in Escondido, up to '08, I lived over behind OG Elementary, so you can probably guess my getaway lake.

Continuing Success T! Rodents beware!

I live in the shadow of Bernardo Mtn. with the San Dieguito river park almost at my back door, Hodges a few hundred feet below.
As you can imagine, as it seems you know this area well that this is critter haven up here.
Hell, the mice and rats are taking numbers to get in line to take a shot at winning the peanut butter treat if they can "Beat The Trap" --- some win, most don't. 🥴 🤣 It's a hobby that just keeps on giving and keeps me on my toes trying to outsmart the little bastards. 🤣

If you haven't seen Hodges in awhile, it would break yer heart. Seems some wealthy folks downstream in that poor man's community of Rancho Santa Fe decided that living below a dam that's 109 years old might warrant a close up inspection.
After discovering some rather concerning problems, they've dropped the level of the lake to about 44% capacity and won't allow it to fill further. Water storage in California, Nah, don't need it. 🤦‍♂️

A little endangered birdy whispered in my ear, that they're happily nesting on the new riparian environment being created since the lake level dropped --- so they've all hired lawyers to prevent the eventual refilling of the lake --- You Just Wait, that will come to pass.

Lake Wholford's new dam which should be about done by now, seems to be still bogged down in the endless governmental road blocks.
This gives me confidence that I'll never live long enough to once again see Hodges cascading down the spillway. 😞

Wow. Sad about Hodges. Wolford used to be nicer in the 70's too. Uncle in law used to DJ at KOWN, and play weekends up at the Lodge. Cruise nights🌙 on Valley Parkway.

February check out rides, '04,-'08. Lucky to be able to boat Hodges when full. Way back up into Bernardo cove.

The Indian petroglyphs are awesome. Go find arrowheads up there after heavy rains. Gold, if you know where. Biggest nugget in California came out of the San Gabriel River in the Sierra Madre mountains. Navy tested torpedoes up in the reservoir there. Nike missles!!
