I just listed our old RV on Craigslist/offer up. A guy messages me saying he will pay in cash and will be there in 45 minutes. The offer was lower than our asking price, but it would get back our down payment for the newer one. The boat is coming back on Feb 1st and we need the space so we want it gone. It took a bit of moving things around to get the RV out front.

15 minutes later, he sends a message saying his buddy said it’s worth 12k-14k. 6k lower than the price he originally offered. I sent him a link to a dealership selling a similar to ours with the price. And told him, we won’t be accepting offers that low.

45 minutes go by and no one shows up. 5 minutes later, a guy pulls up and asks Robert if the RV is for sale and Robert said yes, are you the guy from offer up. Guy says no, he was in the area looking at another RV… he acts like he knows nothing about the RV and doesn’t test anything. He throws out an offer 2k lower than the “offer up guy” made. We say no, and he asks to leave his number. He then gives us his brothers number.. I’m now convinced this is the guy from offer up playing games. I just don’t believe he was in our neighborhood looking at a different RV and couldn’t provide his number.

I hate selling larger items… you never know what’s going to happen.

When selling just about anything there's 3 options.

1. Pay the consignment fee and move on with your life.
2. Trade it in and move on with your life.
3. Sell it yourself and possibly make a little extra for dealing with the BS.

I mentioned that to Robert and he said he would check every single bill to make sure it would be legit. He didn’t trust the guy at all.
Normally I will hold my ground and wait for my price but right now is a weird deal with toys. Especially if someone showed up that quick

I think I posted it in my thread. The first guy I was going to buy from wanted cash. The guy I actually bought from was very hesitant when I pulled out a pouch full of cash. I hadn’t thought much about it either way

When I sold my fifth wheel I think it was for about $45,000. We just met at the bank, the teller ran the cash and it was in my account and everything was verified as legit. I’d find out if there were any counterfeit bills right then in there. I can pretty much tell by touching them though.

I know some people don’t wanna put the cash in the bank so that’s their own prerogative.

I've run into both that want cash, and those that don't. Even had to run cash to the bank to get a bank check...that was weird.

@Socalx09 , this may sound odd, and others may disagree, but in SoCal in the next few weeks RV's may start to move as people without homes will need something. Either to live at family or friends, or to park where they lived. It may be interesting.

I think Robert has a marker and his friend down the street has one of those LED machines. I have sold things to RDP members who I knew were solid members and we never checked or counted. But, once the guy fumbled with his name, and other things, he instantly became untrustworthy.

It’s always dicey dealing with cash. I have bought a RZR alone with cash. I always carry on these deals as most times Robert isn’t available and I have to handle it. Thankfully nothing has happened.

I always deal in cash. I have accepted up to 50k in cash.
But after seeing this dude in Instagram that makes prop cash. Wholly shit it look real.

Then the guy who bought my trailer told me his buddy buys flowers from those Mexicans on the side of the road. He uses a $100 bill so he will get $80 in change. wtf!?

Glad his bank paid me and he wasn’t using cash. That’s effed.

It’s been listed for a week. I didn’t even think of that. I know RVs have been sitting for a while so maybe this will have things moving, just in an unfortunate way. If someone told me that is why they are looking for the RV, I would bring the price down to our bottom line immediately for them without them asking.

Things happen for a reason. The guy may not have been trying to pawn off counterfeit bills, but sounds like he was trying to lowball you in a shady way. Best not to deal with people like that anyway. A good buyer will show. Most times, when you least expect it, and are ready to give in.

That's a game these flippers play...

My neighbor here in havasu had the exact same situation happen, a guy low balls, then within a day a random guy pulls up and asks if the vehicle is for sale unprovoked.

Our street is a super quiet street just off the foothills with next to zero traffic, I call bullsh!t on the guy just happened to be in the area

I thought I was going to have to go to the bank but he saw my moms badge and then I ended up getting a discount 🤪

Do you have a for sale sign on the RV? Why would anyone ask a random person if an RV was for sale and then proceed to low ball them? Since neither of them even offered asking I wouldn't give either of them a 2nd thought. But to me that sounds shady.

There was not a for sale sign on the RV, and there are a few RVs in our neighborhood. It was just an odd situation.

My in-laws live on a busy street. One evening, a little Hispanic lady knocked
on their door and asked if their Accord was for sale. They said no. She said please how much. So they responded $4000. The lady said oh that is too much and left.

About two weeks later, there was a knock at the door and it was the lady with $4000.

It happens.

It does happen.
I had just got a new to me truck and was washing my old truck. Guy pulls up and asks if I’m interested in selling it. I had no sign or ads out on it. I said yes and he asked how much and I said 5K. He said “Oh no! That’s way too much. That’s maybe a $2K truck.”
Me- “Ok. Bye.”
I kick myself for selling it. 🤦🏻‍♂️
This was pre Covid.

Just got home from Glamis and got a message on offer up that they could be by within 30 minutes. We got it ready to show. A family shows up and buys it.

Turns out it was a family who lost their home in a fire. They have been in a hotel until now. Robert ended up giving him the lowest price we could give it away for and we gave their family a bunch of roasts from our 1/4 from fort rock farms.

I bursted into tears pretty quickly after Robert gave back some of the cash after we heard about them losing their home. We didn’t know until after the deal was made and pink slip was signed. I hope it does them well until they can recover. The pictures they showed us was devastating.

I bought a new Silverado in 2000 and parked my 87 Toyota SR-5 next to the house on the boat pad to get ready to sell, knock at the door, 2 Mexican guys ask if its for sale?
Yes, how much?...I gave them the number I had in my head after I replaced the rear springs (soft) and a good detail.
They asked if I had the title, opened the doors looked inside, asked me to start it and handed me the cash in less than 10 minutes.

I remember you mentioning that the RV sales could go up soon because of the fire. Robert and I talked about it that day saying what we would do if that were to happen. Robert told them to call if they had questions or needed help. They aren’t RV people, and you could tell it started to feel overwhelming for them as he explained how to work everything. It’s a lot to learn.

RV’s are definitely overwhelming for those not familiar with how the systems work.

No good deed goes unpunished. Rob has been helping the guy with questions, and warned him about the tanks filling, how to shower, etc, but it was overfilled…out of propane.. Among a few other issues like why does it take 15 minutes for the water to heat up. RVs can be overwhelming and a lot. Which is why Robert offered to help with any questions. I guess he asked about keeping the RV/insurance in our name which Rob said no to and already did the release of liability online the night of. The guy may have overloaded/overworked the generator- he has no other power source. Said it worked for the last 7 days and then it didn’t. He is now saying it’s going to be 4k to fix it, sounds like he wants money and that we sold him a lemon…

I just found out about this all today since I had no idea the guy was still contacting us.

Sold as is…. Where is…..
Yep, and we wouldn’t sell someone something that wasn’t right without telling them upfront or fixing it before selling it. We don’t want any bad karma. Just sucks that even when you go the extra mile for people, they still want more. I just told him it’s probably best to stop communicating with him

Money counters are cheap and they detect fake bills just an FYI.. Almost everyone has them out here because people do so many cash transactions on boats etc..

That sucks. Unfortunately this happens all the time with buyers. The offering of help after the sale is nice but I do understand the people that don't have any personality when selling something...

When we sold our Motorhome a guy came over and bought it and gave us a deposit and he said he will be back in 2 days with the rest of the cash so my wife went on Amazon and bought a bill counter that make sure all the bills are good. Than after we used it we returned it. All the bill were good. You might want to buy one just to be safe.
