I’m so sorry to read this. Eddie from our team went up to his Wrightwood place to rescue his cat and check on everything. Doesn’t look like they are out of the woods yet, but they really took a stand to protect that town. Prayers to all those firefighters out there.

I'm sorry for the delay. This has been really stressful for me and my family.

Thank you for your care and concern. This is not anyone's permanent residence within my family's ranch or the adjacent ranch.

The only details I didn't want to discuss was that my neighbors. Who happens to be a part of the boating community in a lot of ways, was up there when the fire broke out.

Alot of you guys might have a Dooley enterprise oil pan or scoop on your boat. He is my neighbor. Pat Dooley.

He and a 2 others were overwhelmed protecting my family's property and their own.


By the grace of God they only made it though because pat had the foresight to keep scuba equipment in case of a fire.
If I'm allowed I will share the moment before they had to jump in. We rely on the steady flow of Coldwater creek. There are many deep ponds and pools

Unsubstantiated - Not proved by evidence. There were a number of reports stating Mountain High Ski Resort had been destroyed by the fire. Turned out, fortunately that was not true. It did pertain to your situation.

No word yet on what is down there. Road is not accessible and air space is restricted I guess. Just got pictures of the campground lodge at the top of our road looking into cattle cow canyon. I had to take a weekend and get away to the lake. I guess I have to wait. I'm remaining optimistic, but it doesn't look good

I'm slowly getting pictures from friends in the fire department or county works from gmr. My father's cabin that I had worked on for 2 years when he moved to Idaho is gone. My 2 uncles may be there. We will not know till we can have boots on the ground to access the total damage. All I know is there is alot of stuff that should be there that vanished. All I see is tin and char. Lots of heavy equipment lost that was used to maintain. I'll update even if there is no positives to it.

Hopefully they will allow access by this weekend. My father was looking forward to getting out of Idaho during the cold winters and being close to his grandchildren and my sister and i.brand new wood burning stove too. I have so many pictures that are hard to look at right now. The family has decided to rebuild whatever the damage is.

I wish I still lived out that way @Morehart . I'd pitch a tent with my sons and help with the framing. In spring, the mountain will come alive again, and the smell of fresh sawdust and spring will overcome the smoke. I'm sad for you that it was lost to the fire...but really happy your family intends to rebuild.

Nothing wrong with that. Heck, there are a couple of properties where I live currently that people are in trailers while building...and we have no creeks or ponds like your spread. I'm real happy it wasn't a time when you and family were up working, and your neighbors made it out ok.

For a "quick and dirty" cabin, there are some decent tiny homes. Some I've seen would suck to travel with, but would make good cabins.

Funny you should say this. We have been working on a lake property for the last few months. I'll post up a thread on buying the worst property on a good lot and transforming it to a cool lake spot.

Alot of stuff made it through the fire that I was surprised. 1 old cabin survived which was my grandpa's. He died in 1989 and left the ranch to his 3 sons. That is the place I have the most memories at.
All the work to restore and make livable might be gone for the rest.


The dream is still alive and well. I spoke to my cousin who just spent 6 hours cutting a new road to get down there. He's got a great positive additude on rebuilding

I though they lasted pretty good since 1916. Yes we are discussing steel instead of wood. I'm amazed at how hot things got at looking at the aftermath. I have too many pictures that are depressing and amazing at the same time.
