COVID-19: Approximately 207,518 cases worldwide; 7,324 cases in the U.S. as of Mar. 18, 2020.*

Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

Deaths
COVID-19: Approximately 8,248 deaths reported worldwide; 115 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 18, 2020.*

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

While additional deaths is unfortunate, is this self induced financial Armageddon necessary?

This is what I keep wondering about, doesn't seem to make sense.

I’ve debated on whether or not to post this, but what the heck. I have my own opinions about this whole Coronavirus ordeal, and figure I’ll take a beating from some of you, but what the heck.
  • I believe that this strain of the Coronavirus was made in a Chinese laboratory with the primary purpose of eliminating the political uprising that was taking place in Hong Kong.
  • I believe that the virus made its way to the U.S. as far back as early Fall and many of us have already been exposed unknowingly because the symtoms are similar to that of the flu or common cold.
  • Know body really took note of the virus until reporting of outbreaks in other countries began surfacing. These countries however have extreme high density living, high numbers of smokers, high numbers of elderly and lackluster healthcare. For these reasons the outbreaks have been much more significant.
  • It wasn’t until President Trump was acquitted did the MSM start reporting about this new version of the Coronavirus. Call it a coincidence.
  • Soon cases began to pop up on cruise ships and a couple here on the main land. Instantly the MSM lost their minds over the Coronavirus and the first rolls of toilet paper were sold. (I still don’t get the toilet paper thing)
  • Suddenly the NBA suspends its season and because of the extreme American PC culture it only made sense that every other sporting organization follow suit.
  • Then democratic governors like Cuomo (NY) and Newsome (CA) start talking about shutting down schools. Now the sheeple effect is at full throttle and every other local, state, and federal government are following suit.
  • Our country is now being told what to do by democratic governors that are creating hysteria by literally shutting down their States. Our federal government is following their lead in an effort to not look bad, as the MSM has done nothing but criticize the administrations every move.
  • The MSM and democrats have now taken control of the citizens of this country. They have given us no choice but to stop life as we know it. They have taken away most of our ability to make a living. They have created a poop storm in the stock market. They have literally dismantled everything we have built back up over the past few years. When this ends and we are released back into the wild, don’t be surprised if your favorite eatery is no longer there. The unemployment lines will be long and the economic growth will be at a crawl. This financial crisis is going to be massive.

Flame away!!!

Okay then. Go have hurt feelings over at the other forum. You've been here 8 years and I'm sure you've been an adult awhile. In 8 years you should know the atmosphere at RDP and generally in life know you can't make everybody happy nor expect everybody agree with you. Your orginal post was interesting... I don't agree on the whole thing but took some bits here and there to think about.

It’s funny that the further right your political beliefs are the less you believe the virus is serious. If anything it will be interesting to see what was warranted and true and what was unnecessary down the road.

How in the blue fuck did you come to that conclusion? The further right you are the more likely you are to be a full on prepper..

Just days ago you were making fun of me for sticking up and saying I was part of the problem and you were coming to my house.. and your middle of the road not right not left..

I went out of my way last night to see if it was just Dem states that were shutting things down. That is not the case. At the same time it is the Dem states with the Highest population densities. I just can't believe so many are not self policing. Traveling to ones Vaca home to hunker down is OK in my book. Hitting every bar in sight not so much.

It’s pretty evident on this forum. It was also the narrative the President and Fox News was pushing until about 5 days ago. You have a post five posts up from Tom Slick pointing out the narrative. Racey. Regor. And most of the far right crowd in the dungeon are stomping their feet in protest to the “flu”. Wendi posted a right wing conspiracy theory on her FB page this morning. You are the exception to the rule Dave, but you pretty much believe in any doomsday event. How’s the radiation from Japan going? [emoji2957]

After awhile, people are gonna say fuck it! I got to get out there and live my life. In the United States we are not one to sit back idle for too long (at least not me) Being paranoid about getting sick is crazy. Everyone is going to get the flu or a cold multiple times in their life so where does this end? I'll comply for so long but at some point reason has to take over and not let this bullshit ruin our livelihood. This is not a third world country!

I’ve been “prepared” my whole life.
I ain’t yore average “prepper”.
Most of what people do to “prepare” I disagree with.
I don’t understand why people hoard anything...ammo in particular.
How many actual firefights does the average poster on here figure they will engage in? Do they think they will win every one of them?
News flash, if you have more ammo than you can carry yore probably gonna lose your first firefight...unless you’re part of an extremely organized militia.
Even if they win that first firefight, do they think it’s gonna be some sort of endless Armageddon??
Say a guy has 1000 rounds at all times, that’s a normal number for many.
Now times that by number of different caliber weapons in possession.
Let’s just say the dude has 5000 rounds total for 5 different weapons.
Now, said hero has NEVER drawn down on a human being. Hell, he may not have ever actually killed anything before.
Lets imagine that the zombie horde of looters or whoever this imagined enemy is comes invading and threatning the hero’s family and, God forbid, wants to steal his toilet paper.
Hero draws down on that first living person and squeezes. Well, he’s now a murderer.
Lets say he’s not bothered by it much and gets to killing.
Even if he only puts 1 in 10 rounds on target (if he has the stomach for it) that’s still 500 bodies by the time he’s exhausted his ammo cache.. Do you see the problem with the math here? Is the hero gonna sit in his perch unscathed and unmolested and, more importantly, unarrested with 500 bodies laying in the yard?? How long would that even take?

Has no one read the books of people that have actually gone through real life collapses?? Real life defense from looting hordes?
Put down the prepper books and read how actual everyday people have made it through.

Pretty much everything you wrote here with regard to Ammo and guns here I disagree with. Lol.

Not worth debating as everyone is gonna have their own opinions.. but I could literally come up with a list of scenarios where more ammo than u can carry comes into play.
Incidentally I have more ammo than I can carry for both my AR15’s and my AR10 as well as shot guns etc..

I consider myself low on guns and ammo.

I find it ironic a gentleman with the screen name 5oclocksomewhere would be wound so tightly. Every time I hear that term I think of Aruba and Keywest. :)

I hope for your sake you can find something calming and positive in your life to help you through these difficult times. Don't worry or feel alone, we are all going through this together (well actually 6 feet apart to be completely honest :D) and we are all gonna be alright.

If you need to reach out to someone, make sure you do. My private messages are always open and I may not have much to say but maybe I can make you laugh; I do know a shit ton of stupid jokes. I just don't want anyone to do something stupid over this crap. We all need to be informed but staying off of FB, IG, TV and forums is definitely a good way to clense.

Have a good week!

If you’ve never had any combat or tactical training you better get more rounds. When you run into a guy who has, guess what he takes with him after you’re 30 second fire fight is over?

I don't either. 5OClock upped the anty by tossing his RD gear in the dumpster though. Suicide note with a slap in the face attached. 🤪
Don’t know if it upped the ante any but it did show a lack of class in my opinion. River Dave had nothing to do with It.

This is why I only loaded half of my AR mags. There would be lots of bodies and my luck will have run out lol. Before all the mags are empty.
Figure my life would only need 1 mag before he luck runs out. Sad, then the kids are on their own.

30 seconds is being generous...a split second changes or ends everything.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck. No, not anti-gun...but it would take a lot these days for me to draw on another person.

Oh I totally agree. The idiots I see buying 10,000 rounds of ammunition are comical. Good luck with your “army” cans of ammo you bought and the AR 15 you’ve never shot. Or maybe you put 50 rounds through it up on Bison, but how about crouched behind something. Or laying prone. Or clearing a building? Can you break it down? Have you ever taken it apart? How many times have you disassembled and assembled it? What are gonna do when it jams? Lmao. Good luck with all that. Maybe 20,000 rounds is better.

Lol, Oh I’m well aware of that! It’s not an issue, I’m not saying it’s wrong to do, just not right for me
Like one poster said, what is most comfortable for each person.
Objectivity speaking, You and I have 2 different priorities as we are in 2 completely different situations.

Having said that here’s an example of what can happen to a stronghold.
In 1836 one of the most widely know sieges and battles in our nations history took place, The Alamo.
There were between 180 and 250 armed men defending the mission. About 1800 Mexican army troops held them under siege for 13 days. Then they attacked and killed all the men in the mission.
Between 400-600 Mexican troops were killed. That’s a 225% (average) kill ratio obtained by the defenders....before they were finally all slaughtered.
That’s a pretty damn high % for a militia facing an organized army! Yet they all died.
Our weapons today can kill far more effectively. In fact, just one man in that mission with just a mini14 could have changed history.
When you lay out that first marauder or marauders, the authorities are going to come, You may be justified, but there’s still dead people in your yard.
If it’s beyond that point, and there is zero police, Fed agencies, or military of any kind trying to maintain order then something real bad has already happened and we are likely all dead already. If we are alive we will be looking at foreign troops in our scopes.

I just don’t think that, at the point of total Armageddon, surviving a siege situation is gong to work. You’re not going to be able to hold them off. But I’ll be the guy outside trying to get them in a crossfire with you so maybe together it’ll work out!

One grenade launcher, no Alamo. Good luck behind your adobe wall with a mini 14.

I have one weapon for each principle.
4 total.
One hand gun (It’s a cheap one too!), one scary gun, one shotgun, and one “reach out there” gun.
All are the most popular (Or very popular) calibers of there type.
If all is lost and we are actually killing each other to survive, the equation becomes simple. Win and you collect the spoils, lose and you don't need them.

The shotgun is great home defense. Just point and shoot. It will go through interior doors and walls also without going through the neighbors house.

I believe in having the ammo, but to practice with, not to defend.
A belt fed m249 is great, but only to cover a retreat or keep heads down. In most situations, loaded mags on your person are more than adequate. A situation will always be fluid, and a 1000rd can is just an anchor.

Never shot one. I’ve shot an m240 and an M2 though. I think we had asbestos gloves to change the barrels back then. Lol.
