I have been a lurker for a while but thought I would post this. I work for Fortune 500 company that builds red engines. Currently I saw an update that our manufacturing in China is 75% back up and running. So while u do see and can agree with the many comments, at some point it will pass..

So,what might be different there than here.

Italy is a tourist destination for the Chinese and they didn’t have Trump's early action stopping travel

They live mostly in hyper dense cities and very small sq footage dwellings

Its routine that they live with their Elder parents or multi generations

Hygiene is not priority 1, They are not germ-a-phobes like Americans.

I’ve been “prepared” my whole life.
I ain’t yore average “prepper”.
Most of what people do to “prepare” I disagree with.
I don’t understand why people hoard anything...ammo in particular.
How many actual firefights does the average poster on here figure they will engage in? Do they think they will win every one of them?
News flash, if you have more ammo than you can carry yore probably gonna lose your first firefight...unless you’re part of an extremely organized militia.
Even if they win that first firefight, do they think it’s gonna be some sort of endless Armageddon??
Say a guy has 1000 rounds at all times, that’s a normal number for many.
Now times that by number of different caliber weapons in possession.
Let’s just say the dude has 5000 rounds total for 5 different weapons.
Now, said hero has NEVER drawn down on a human being. Hell, he may not have ever actually killed anything before.
Lets imagine that the zombie horde of looters or whoever this imagined enemy is comes invading and threatning the hero’s family and, God forbid, wants to steal his toilet paper.
Hero draws down on that first living person and squeezes. Well, he’s now a murderer.
Lets say he’s not bothered by it much and gets to killing.
Even if he only puts 1 in 10 rounds on target (if he has the stomach for it) that’s still 500 bodies by the time he’s exhausted his ammo cache.. Do you see the problem with the math here? Is the hero gonna sit in his perch unscathed and unmolested and, more importantly, unarrested with 500 bodies laying in the yard?? How long would that even take?

Has no one read the books of people that have actually gone through real life collapses?? Real life defense from looting hordes?
Put down the prepper books and read how actual everyday people have made it through.
I'm interested in reading one of these books. Can you suggest a title I can get? Thanks

Dont spread lies. What credentials do you have? You're only fueling the idiots panic....

I have a neighbor, whose has a friend that knows someone who read a book written by a guy whose mechanic works on vehicles used by the White House, but retired five years ago. I still consider it a credible source. Plus, I don't know anyone who has lived forever, so what he says must be true!

Italy has a huge population over 60, more smokers per capita by about a 3rd over the US , 3rd world dirty in some places and everyone lives in closer quarters than even places like New York.

No question why their outbreak is the worst.

So true.
I’ve been to northern Italy and it literally reminded me of Mexico, but tons more people.

Start here. It’s real life
The flu isn’t the real killer, it’s merely the mechanism for collapse and we are lock stepping solidly down the path with knee jerk reactions. Some valid, most of them not valid. The theme of this book in the beginning is the subtlety of the “collapse”.
You want to know what it looks like? Just look out your window right now. It starts with limited services and restrictions. In his case it was not a virus driven development, but rather a national banking and currency crisis.
But the end result at our front doors is the same.
Avoid Rambo books, they’ll get you killed if you aren’t a career bad ass already.
Very very few people can be Froggystyle Wes, no matter what they believe!

Albertsons had lots of meat today.
No paper, no waters other than the high end artesian stuff.
No potato’s or cabbage for the corned beef I picked up so I guess we do leprechaun day in a day or three.
I know a boat racer raising pigs less than 5 miles from us. And, while it’s not super great there’s a goat farm out behind the orchards south east of us.

hah the corned beefs were so sad when I went there. They were just legit 2 lb chunks of fat wiht tiny specs of meat thrown in there. Dont forget about the guy by the lake thats always selling eggs. I dont know if you've been there before, but they are great.

I did score a great tritip though!

Not to be a dick...
The obvious trend amongst people here is if you have kids at home, you're worried about it.
If you don't, you are not.
The sad thing is, instead of respecting one another's views or thoughts, some of you have just become straight shitty about it. I don't really understand the motivation, nor do I understand why the subject itself is so polarizing.

The trend I see is that the households with kids are worried more about the social and economic fallout due to media induced frenzy, while households with elderly and few kids are worried more about the actual virus.

I see this as the root cause of the noted polarization.

Because everyone gets on a soapbox and tries to tell each other what to do or shame others behavior. It is the same with every other topic on here.. finance, real estate, towing, etc.

Everyone has an opinion, everyone knows some expert, everyone has an experience.

Add in the 24/7 news cycle and media fanning the flames of all opinions and views.. and here we are.

Events like this don't bring people together, it drives them apart.

And since you are reviewing my posts I don’t believe I have ever initiated a post on here that wasn’t boat related. Correct me if I’m wrong. I have responded to plenty of non boat related posts on here and sometimes I am a dick. I will work on that. Or maybe I will just stick to asking boating questions on here and always thanking everyone for their help.

To me, there really seems to be a divide in how people see the issue in it's entirety. Some feel the sky is falling, some think this is no big deal at all. I feel it is a big deal. How big it is, well that's the question. As a household with "underlying medical conditions"...the virus scares me as much as the aftermath. I may be a rare case, but I don't know?

Me and @Blackmagic94 made a bet last night. He says the Boogaloo is going to jump off before end of April. I actually gave him till the end of 2020. It won't happen. You Bitches don't have the Balls to start shooting. :)

Define “on their knees”...and is it the virus or the reactions that lead to being “on their knees”?
I’m not trying at all to minimize the potential of a viral outbreak such as this one, I’m just saying that suicide is no way to avoid death.

The Chinese supply chain is dead in the water. Our service based economy is closed. Same for Europe. The Dow is dropping +-1500 points a day. I would say that we are in pretty bad shape.

To me, I see the virus as a very real and serious situation, with the potential to cause serious damage.
My bigger concern is the doomsday frenzy being perpetuated on an hourly basis.
This isn’t the 1800’s. This isn’t going to end civilization as we know it.
Yes, people are catching it and people have and will die from it. But the world has faced much worse viral threats in my lifetime...much worse, with less medical understanding and far less warning.

Ive already stated that I think some of these current preventive actions are good.
What I have issue with is the perpetuation of doomsday shit like 6 months of Zombie apocalypse based on rumor and fear.
So the populace stays in a panic and demands action of some sort.
So they ban “get togethers” somewhere and within 24 hours mayors and governors all over follow suit so as to keep pace, as an example.
Just look at Newsome, that stupid SOB is running wild with it.
They are causing more damage than the virus...and the hard numbers support this.
The virus hard numbers do NOT support the idea of a continuation of a plague scenario.
We are seeing real and true reversal and recovery at the top of the timeline.
Economic numbers on the other hand...well if we keep this shit up who knows.
I mean, what the hell does drive through only accomplish? Seriously. That’s a great way for Typhoid Timmy to spread it.
I went to the Bank the other day and signed in to see a desk jockey (needed a notary). There were 12 people ahead of me. The sign in sheet had over 50 names on it for that day...all with the same attached ink pen. The lobby line had probably 20 people in it. I can only guess how many people opened the doors to go in and out that day alone. Not a single wet wipe in sight.
So a dozen people all sitting mere inches from each other. MUCH closer than any diners sit near each other at any given restaurant, and at least 20 more in the same area in line mere inches from each other’s face. We won’t even discuss how many snotty fingers have touched any ATM machine lately!

A lot of these things vary in necessity depending on location obviously.
A densely populated suburbia is far worse than HAVASU for instance.
I think that the “stupidity” part of this equation will not last long. I think we will see closures and restrictions lifted well within 2-4 weeks, or as soon as the hard numbers suggest a modicum of “control”.

What hasn’t been mentioned is some “what if” scenarios.
We are vulnerable right now due to our own construct. Whether this virus was an accidental release by the Chinese or whatever. BUT...right now, this instant, would be the PERFECT time for an enemy to “piggyback” this virus with another similar exposure.
Just look at where we are at over a virus with roughly twice the mortality rate of the common flu (3% last I saw),
but with domestic deaths at a fraction of common flu numbers.
A release into a water supply and we are done, and it will be of our own fashioning.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna watch “The Postman”! Lol

The virus, oddly, is our only known. The variables in the equation are all human. Humans, as a whole, don't tend to be the brightest.

As you said, drive-thru's for instance, our health and safety is being controlled by the folks working at Burger King. My God, we are going to get what we deserve on that decision.

My true feelings are more fear from the economic damages lasting more than the rumored 14 day lock down. Are there any reasons this would not cause major issues? In a society that now is accustomed to ease of everything, what happens when things are hard? God forbid, what happens when the EBT cards run dry?

The human variable is a wildcard. That being the case, what harm is there in attempting to stack the deck? I am only a little overstocked on pellets for my stove (end of season, so some places are out already), but food and gear, such as medications and such, are sitting about our "normal" levels.

Being prepared doesn't make you a "prepper", nor does it asure a perfect outcome to any situation. It does, however, increase your odds, and keep your blood pressure in check when others are pushing shopping carts of TP and screaming "the sky is falling!"

Agree right down the line.
I don’t have to leave the house for weeks...except if I want milk for my mochas...
Haven’t bought TP in weeks, don’t need to and didn’t need to when this all went sideways.
I’ve no prepper, but I’ve always got water, paper products, frozen and canned food, and enough ammo for realistic scenarios.
The only way this goes on more than a few weeks is if it gets piggybacked.
My entire position is that irresponsible hype like “6 months” or “we are headed for disaster” is not reflected by th facts, and is self perpetuating.

Oddly enough, yesterday my son actually did talk to a Navy General that works at the 5 sided building. He did have stern warnings for my boy to stay safe....and then likewise my son relayed these warnings to us, lol. My wife said our boy lectured us to keep away from people cuz we're old.😄
This "General" is my grandsons God-Grandpa.

I understand your frustrations but to wish harm upon others is equally douchie. I did not agree with those throwing you under the bus yesterday either.
If you see my post above, some of the things you mentioned in your OP in essence I could confirm....2nd hand.
Don't take it personal, everyone has their own opinions and trusts "their" sources. Sadly, most of us do not know all the facts, real facts is what I mean.
