In some other boating related news, These are the spy photos of a new project that is coming out of Nordic!

It is a 36’ true tunnel cat that is like nothing I have seen in the performance world.

The main difference is the sponsons are exceptionally wide for its size and the boat can be rigged with twin outboards OR QUAD outboards! Yes you can put 4 - 400’s on the back of you want!

The boat can obviously be rigged with inboards as well and any propulsion system you like.

The bottom has been tooled from the ground up by Thane and the team at Nordic.

Stay tuned for more updates as they progress!

Tooling gel has been sprayed and ready to create mold.

One way to tell the actual size is those rear hatches will fit a motor through them, right?
Needs to be a deck boat ha

She's a big girl with some great lines. Unlimited power combos and quad outboards would be over the top, but those hatches seem tight for inboards.

Quad 300R V8s would be badass and sound badass while only weighing 1k per side

That bottom looks a LOT like a Skater. Beyond interesting that Nordic bought or borrowed a 40' Skater bottom to build Nordics 43' and now they have a true tunnel 36' ? I love the passion that Nordic has for west coast boating. This seems just a lil odd to me.

She's sexy.

Top cap seams like it would have to be modified to fit inboards and I pray that they will make this a universal hull to where inboards and outboards can have the same ease of install and mechanical access.

Outboards are a fad and inboards will return! Best to set up for the future :D

Especially when the new 500+ hp outboards come out and they are way more fuel efficient & reliable compared to inboards......

It will be great to see a west coast builder put their flair on a true cat and teach several people what a TRUE cat will do in rough water.

Just to be THAT guy....... Your guy's terminology is incorrect. This is a true CAT. All tunnels are true tunnels as the tunnels go all the way out through the transom. Most all west coast cats arent true cats which is short for catamaran as there is the center sponson (or pod depending on size).

I still haven't seen a "more reliable" outboard. Let me know when they get here
Cause outboards have all the drive fragileness that Hi-Po I/O's have.......

My 18 yr old outboards have 500+ hours on them, boat runs 100+ mph. I’ve never touched/fixed anything on them. Zilcho, nothing.

Guess it’s just a fad tho.
You just jinxed yourself! You better service the hell out of those motors this coming season and throw some unnecessary new shit on them to offset what you’ve just done

Those sponsons look balls DEEP....I remember reading the thread about Lavey’s RPM 26 and how the crew was suspended from the ceiling, in climbing gear, hanging inverted, deep in the sponsons....haha.

Can’t wait to see this one. Looks great

I'm no expert. I owned a 25 Daytona with a bulletproof 598" BBC that I put a few hundred hours on it including 1000 mile trip up the entire Ohio river. Loved the boat but it always had small issues. I have now owned a 308 Skater with twin Merc 300XS's that is a much bigger boat than my 25 Daytona. The carbon kevlar 25 with 735hp & 748 ft lbs ran 105mph. My 308 with 600hp & almost zero torque from the weed whackers runs 103+ mph and can cruise 90+ mph for endless miles. I've put 230+ hours on my 308 in 2 years without hardly any issues.
Back to thread topic: this new 36 Nordic will be badass, cant wait to see it.

The family island in Alaska has two boats that run twin 300 verados and both were over 1400 hours. The one boat was upgraded to 350s and the drives were sold for good money.

Outboards can be great engines, but so are inboards. There are bad eggs in both categories of course, but their are also great eggs and each category has its pros and cons. I have owned a plethora of both and worked on countless others. Their are certain applications I prefer outboards on and others I prefer inboards. This happens to be an application where I would prefer an inboard and would love to see the top deck in a format that allows better for that. I will leave it at that.

I want to bring my new junk (new to me) to the Delta and run with you folks! I'm scared to run the OBs (less than my IBs) that hard for that long, but I like to put on miles!

You guys do anything cool for Memorial Weekend? (I have a bucket list to run my own boat under the Golden Gate) If so, I'd like to set something up.

I don't understand...what's the point of having a boat of that length without a proper cabin down below? A race boat is understandable, but that would have a canopy...this doesn't. Looks like it seats as many as my 18" outboard will.

Do you think this is the same bottom as the 34'?

Look at how wide the sponsons are.. this isn’t a 34 or a skater. It’s a new bottom with very wide sponsons and a narrow tunnel. It will be interesting to see how it works!

In talking to a drive guy out here in Florida, they’ve had issues with the 400 lowers running on the twin outboard 30-36’ cats. They’re setup with a super high x-dimension so the props are constantly going in and out of the water and eating up the lower gears. That combined with the owners of those boats thinking they can run WOT all the time because they have outboards, is hard on the equipment.

The 300hp and below outboards are pretty bulletproof, but when you start pushing higher hp and more aggressive setups, there will be issues. Not unlike I/O setups...

Spraying the tooling gel on that plug must have been fun. Eh. :D
...…..especially with a pressure pot:eek:

I converted one of the hallett airless to gel mold duty...……cleaned all the lines...…..worked good for the deck...….took a shite just before starting to spray the hull....all because of a 50 cent plastic nipple cracked inside the gun head...…….....decided to pot the thing and just rebuild the gun head this winter(more tooling to shoot)…...some big stuff

atleast I don't have to laminate it!.....woohoo!:D

I know for a fact Nordic built 2 36’s ten years ago, they called it a 34’ Hurricane but it’s a true cat and measures 36’
for a fact?......technically, yes, we did build 2....but more than 2;):)

hurricane or skater bottom?

nope.....….completely new
carry on.....

I agree 100%
Just my opinion, when you need 4 outboards to push a boat it's time to consider I/O power.

C'mon guys. Cant we all get along? LOL. I personally think Nordic has done a great job since Randy took over. Coming up with new models has got to be a little scary. I commend their efforts and look forward to seeing what they can do with this.

They had an almost new GS mfg rig in there, was using gray #1 through it.
I made them buy it before I’d do that 40 you guys finished.

Unfortunately they didn’t have quite the air pressure to make it function properly.
If you go through the material pump, and it might not even need that? A thorough flush might do it.

If the air system is up to it there the GS rigs works pretty well, saves a lot of material and more time!
