I am pretty sure the tan and brown 909 was a aquacraft. It was about 20 foot and was almost a flatbottom. I can rember seeing it at the launch ramp at goldenshores after a catalina practice, and it must of had 10 gallons of water in the bilge with about two quarts of oil mixed in with a lot of beer cans floating on top.

LOL... sounds like my kinda racing. :D

Dave,

You would have enjoyed the early Campbell regattas. All events ie slalom, ski race, powder puff whatever required three (3) people in the boat......

1) Driver

2) Observer/Navigator

3) BARTENDER

Not too PC today but back in the day...................

:D

I dont think it was an Aquacraft. Contributed a lot of empty beer cans to the bilge of 909 over the years.

Attitude Adjustment(Jeff Mirich) onthe boards knows what kind of flatbottom it was. Gary Patzer and Dan Albrecht("No Hide" Racing)were the salt of the earth ski race teams! :D

Speaking of "No Hide", here ya go. Parker circles, Aug 22, 1992. If you look close, there is a crack around the cap rail all the way around the boat. Dan always said that someday the deck was going to come off and smack him in the face. Good times.

I looked to see if I had any pic's of the old 909 boat, but alas, couldn't find any. That was one well used boat though. The oil and beer cans floating around in the boat mentioned in the prior post is no exaggeration.

Any progress on the boat? i sold the boat to the guy on the east coast, and my dad bought the ooooold 909 boat off gary before he bought the "schiada" we stripped it, put the motor and some other stuff in the old GN boat we had and sold off the hull and trailer. the old 909 was supposedly mickey thompsons old boat and originally had dual engines in it.

The engine is out and gone. Its still sitting waiting for a new trailer to be built. The steel has been ordered but I am not sure if he started on it yet. He may actually be bringing me the new trailer for the 20 today....the priority is the 20 since summer is coming and the 21 is a longer term project.

I like this Schiada!
I would restore it to its original condition with the woodgrain.

Good Luck!

Thanks Brent! I am going to go with a more modern scheme. Fake woodgrain is not my thing.....

The trailer is framed and they are welding on bunk supports today. Should have it home soon so I can remove the rest of the hardware and get it to the glass shop.

Some trailer progress pics from today.

Gary,

first time here in a long, long time. Great to see you making progress and I'm glad someone gets to bring it back to glory.

I understand this boat was very nice when it orig. left California

Not really. The photo of the engine Gary posted was taken in 2006 when it was in CA. These were taken the morning it arrived in CT in 2007.

Community, when you restore this boat, please god don't have it painted..

If you need the non skid regelled, Rick at Islander can make it look new without filling in the texture. He did it on my mini and on glenn's and both came out perfect.

too late Dave its at One Day Paint and Body already....:)

I took the 20 to Rick. He is the one that suggested paint for an all red base on the texture issue. Either way, 20 is being painted but the 21 will be gel....

Burbanite - good to see you back - yeah th etrailer was rough for sure - that is why I started there!

The trailer and the rest. I found the camera with the original pics from the day it arrived here, I could send them to you but they aren't good for much as you are replacing the trailer anyway. I was disappointed when I got it but as I said when we spoke, it was my fault for not being able to get out to CA at the time to look at it in person.

The original reason for me selling it was a valid reason and I'm glad I did as I got to see my Dad, he passed away on Wednesday morning.

You have it now and will no doubt make it nice again, did rivergames take the engine? I will be following your build with interest.

Steve.

I used the engine for something else. It seems to be a solid boat with some nice rigging so it should be a nice piece when its done.

Welcome to the board Burbanite.. :)

RD

Thanks RD. You can tell I'm a real post whore...join date/post number... :)

I was around PB and HB before that, even back when it was a pay site...so I know a few of the reprobates around here. ;)

I'm just glad that Gary can give the boat what it deserves, it was going to be my project but family came first.

I lived across the street from Rassie Harper in Lomita from '88-'94 and I'm pretty sure he did some of the lettering on this boat. It looks real familiar.

this Schiada was a "garage find" by Jerry Ray of Parker. Mike King did the original instalation back in the late 80's. The boat was sold in the 90' Used once in Catalina Ski Race, but mostly river fun

The new trailer looks very nice, I really like the way the painted fenders look. So what's next, installation, interior, gel, or.......Good luck with the project.

The trailer was done by Mike Peasley at Iron Builders. This is the third trailer he has done for me. Next step on the boat is to take it apart for a regel, a cap and some repairs. The rigging is all real nice so it will just need to be cleaned up and recoated. Interior will be tossed. As far as power I keep going back and forth between big CI N/A motor, TT and an EFI Quad rotor setup...

It appears flat black or perhaps glossy charcoal?

Looks pretty darn good imo - the boat has floors but may run the center section open to show this thing off...

I remember this boat from two of the regattas. I was cracking up at the beer foam when he was running in the rough water! Found a couple pics on my hard drive.

That T-400 looks great, what did it end up costing for polishing? Did you decide what you are doing for power?

Hava-Schiada - I'm the boat tied to yours in the aerial shot. Too Cool I'll have to keep that photo.

Jim, I used the guy Islander uses to polish the blower cases. It cost $280 but the trans itself was a mess on the outside and required sandblast etc as it was already hot dipped by the guy that is rebuilding it for me. There are a total of three seperate pieces as I had the snout and pan polished as well.

Did some horse trading and now have these tank straps - gonna have them polished on the one side that faces out and then line them with some sort of two sided tape that will protect the tanks which will be powdercoated. The black one was the only one I had left that wasn't falling apart and we used as the template.

Yeah, its been a fixture there for some time....I have not been in a real hurry. We talked about it and I think he going to get some guys back on it and finish it up....

The inside is good, he had some access holes to clean up and then we are going to gel it and I was going to do snap-in carpet.
