My wife and 18 year old daughter were running errands in the wife’s new 23 Lexus NX450H+ last month. Stop at a local pet store, wife runs in and daughter stays in car…Land Rover pulls next her and the 11 year old daughter kicks open door and use my wife’s new Lexus as a door stop. Daughter gets out and tells the mom that the daughter just dinged our car…then my daughter gets wife and explains about he incident. Talks to Rover driver(who says the daughter didn’t mean it) gets insurance info etc.
Wife makes arrangements and takes day off of work to take Lexus the Lexus certified body/paint shop and meets insurances adjuster. Now she gets off the phone with our insurance company and they tell her basically that the other parties insurance to us to pound sand and take it up with our insurance company since there wasn’t a 3rd party witness. Pretty pissed as the other Shitbag party can’t be accountable.
Is there recourse we can take? Our insurance says our deductible won’t go up or our insurance but at this point it’s principle. Not to mention she’s going to be without the Lexus for a few days while being fixed…people suck.

I would pay out of pocket for PDR, I wouldn’t want any paint work done and/or reported on my new car.

More than likely if you go through your insurance they will go after the Rover drivers insurance for reimbursement.

Shitty situation.

People do suck but I would just move on and not let I ruin my Holidays. I had some guy swipe my Motorhome one time. Totaled his truck and did like $16K damage to the RV. He was passing the left side of me using the on coming traffic lane to pass and No witnesses stopped so the cops and the insurance said it's your words vs theirs.

Sucks you have to deal with it.

Also how bad is the dent ? maybe a PDR guy can fix for less than the deductible ?

Or just leave it because more are coming.

They have been touch with the other parties insurance and they told our insurance to kick rocks…no 3rd party witness. Pretty pissed off.

People suck! Several years ago a HSU professor hit my wife. Damaged the front wheel on our van. He said he would take care of it no worries. 2 days later. Who are you? I never hit anyone. Called the cops saying we were trying to scam him. All over a $200 wheel...

Hope that pos rots in hell.

Just turn it into your insurance company with all information and photos. You can guarantee your company is not going to eat the money and will subrogate the other carrier. Once that happens you should get your collision deductible back.

People are dirt bags its just the way it is. I deal with this stuff daily and once the other party gets home and talks to friends/family the stories always change.

If the paint is ok i would be doing PDR for sure.

The whole things is her car cermacoated and that has to be removed along with the door to fix dent and paint, then reapply cermacoating.

That’s the thing, the door hit was hard enough that it went through all the 9-10 layers of cermacoat and paint.

Was talking to my buddy this weekend in the car, he got swerved into and hit on the freeway and it dinged the fender on his F250. Does the "claim" to your insurance go on your own insurance record in that instance?

The girls insurance company has basically said the same thing to him... pound sand, so he is going through his insurance. I told him his insurance will go after them on the back end for sure.

Giving up your insurance info willingly logically would be admitting guilt to some degree......but logic never prevails when it comes to shit like this.🥴

I had the same happen in my old Lexus. The door hit so hard it rocked my SUV. I came out ready to go to blows, and the little girl came out saying "I'm so sorry", which made to go into dad mode, and I just told her "oops happen" and walked away. Life is too short to get pissed over a door ding.

I agree, but it’s more about the way the mom basically to my wife to F.U at first. And the daughter wasn’t remorseful at all for the mistake. Ultimately we having to deal with it,but damn very few people are accountable for their actions.

Just yesterday I come out of the store and while I'm putting things in the back of my Classic Range Rover, I notice the 2 doors on the passenger side are wiped out.

Some fuck tool in a white truck swiped both doors on the arc to get into or out of someplace, really fucked up what was a perfect OG paint 30 year old classic. One that I have every receipt and Serivice record for and was really trying to hard to keep it totally original. It didn't happen in the location I noticed it - it happened sometime in the last few days someplace else.

I've been driving it around the last few days not even knowing I was driving a wrecked car.

I'm bummed to say the least...

Call store, see how long security cameras memory is, I know someone that tracked down a driver from a Lowe’s camera for a car damaged by another’s door. Ins paid on that one.

This is one of the reasons why I just installed a Red Tiger camera system on my new Lexus. It records up to 24 hours even when the car is parked. I'm hoping this camera will prove fault when the next uninsured motorist hits me, and should save me the $1k deductible.

Back in 2017 I was parked in the far north Riverside Casino parking lot in my brand new F350 dually.

I parked it out by itself with no other cars around it for 10-15 parking stalls.

I come out next morning. Truck is still parked all by itself but someone in a white pickup side swiped the mirror and caught the dually fender. I was tuned the fuck up and pissed.

Riverside Casino would not release any video unless subpoenaed which wasn’t going to happen.

In the middle of a insurance fight. Customer dropped his car at our shop. Signed the insurance waiver to drive my car and his insurance covers my car. His daughter came to his house and borrowed my car. Totaled it out. State Farm says she is not covered to drive my car, she is not living with her parents. They were blowing me off. I told them my Insurance company has already said they will see them in court. They open a investigation to see if they can solve it. I'm sure it is a waist of my time. Ready to retire, really tired of this crap. The sad thing is, their car was out of the bodyshop setting out back to be picked up. She could have totaled her Dad's car and not mine.

Sadly dads Insurance isn't going to pay it if she isn't a listed driver. You will need to sue him/her personally.

He is n idiot for letting someone not insured drive the car.

Typically rental only transfers to a rental from a licensed rental agency/dealer my carriers wouldn't cover a loaner from a shop.

I have an older Cadillac cts my wife drives to the grocery store etc because of this. If you wanna park close to anything its gonna happen people just don't care. If she does take the new navigator it gets parked at the back of the lot to at least make an attempt of keeping people away from it.

Does he have any proof? If it's her fault it shouldn't affect his policy minus paying his deductible but if there is no other party it makes it a weird situation as its just him saying someone hit and ran him.

Similar thing happened to me, this little girl dinged my rear wheel well a whole bunch of times getting in and out her mama's car, now there's more craters than the moon back there. I know who did it and unfortunately I can't file an insurance claim against her since it's my wife and daughter... 🤬

Seriously though (although mine is a true story...), that sucks that people do not take responsibility for their actions. As one of the other posters said, a little humility goes a long way towards diffusing a situation...

I feel your pain and frustration. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. Stop stressing over it and run it through your insurance, that's why we have it. How much is your time and energy worth trying to make them pay.

Not all damages are reported to carfax etc. Its not an automatic report by any/all shops.
Additionally you can request to have it not reported.

Depending on how bad this "ding" is... it may be easier and less than your deductible to just have it fixed, unfortunately I feel your pain with my wife's car as I have them fixed often. Lots of cool ways to fix "dings" these days.
Now if it has a crease and/or has chipped/cracked paint, that changes things. Or if its larger than a "ding", we call those dents, and that could become challenging with body repair, paint or new parts.

Did a third party notice the valve stems missing from 3 of the tires on the land rover?

Brand new 23 Ram less than 500 miles headed home the other night sitting at intersection to get onto the freeway and something flew off of a truck driving the other way over the bridge and slammed into my door. Nothing I could do but shake my head...

I agree if the paint isn’t chipped go the PDR route and don’t mess with the paint and ceramic coat

Don't feel too bad, at least you didn't cause the damage yourself! A few years ago I spent all day detailing my flawless M3... One of the last parts of the process was polishing. I put a new pad on the orbital and yanked on a stubborn extension cord...

Turns out that was just enough of a yank to break the extension cord free and come flying at me and my car.. It was an old cord and I replaced the female end with a big heavy industrial connector. Something like the below came flying and left nice mark right in the middle of my door.. What a rookie mistake SMH...

Another crap story to add. We picked up a 02 Mini Cooper S for my wife. Time capsule, garage kept, original owner is 72 and the car barely had 65k on it. My daughter has a 06 JCW so I knew what I was in for and my wife deserves something fun after all the years in work trucks etc,,,, Car has one pinhead size ding in the passenger door by the mirror and the guy we bought it from told us how it got there. I'm talking a clean ass 20 year old car.

At my wife's work they have large windows where the employees park and there's a vague sign on the wall saying something about damage, but doesn't really make you worried to park there. Well certain time of the year the sun reflects off the windows and it literally melted the shit out of the front bumper. Two 4' stripes across the bumper, boiled the paint off the grill and melted the black plastic trim. Needless to say I was livid. Her boss says sorry that's why we have the signs and to turn it into our insurance. When she got passed on a promotion the following week I got more pissed. Now I guess I'm trying to find one out of a wrecking yard,,, Sucks,,,

Our yellow lab lost his good driving record. Wife took him to the vet and he came bounding out of the car shoving the door into a brand new MB putting a large dent in the MB door. Wife waited until the until the driver came back. Lady goes all postal and my wife calmly says, I could have driven off. Lady immediately calms down, gave her insurance info,,,done deal.

I'm a pdr tech. Benn in biz for 29 years. Post a pic or video to review & i can let you know if it's a candidate.
Thanks,I’ll send you a pic when I get home and good lighting. It’s through the Cilajet coating and body shop said it scratched the paint along with the dent.
My wife got a pic of the ladies license plate before talking with the lady when she gave her insurance info and said her daughter “ didn’t mean to do it”.

Nope no Tesla, not our jam. But assumed our Honor Student 1.5 year at same job(responsible) 19 year old daughter sitting in car with first hand/ear testimonial would carry more weight than a spoiled 10 year old.

My wife drives a Kia and can spot a door ding before it happens. lol
Some basic rules of hers:
* Don’t park next to a banged up pile of shit.
* Don’t park next to cars with big doors.
* Don’t park next to the soccer mom SUV.

Surprisingly enough, she prefers the spots next to cart returns. They are typically bigger and the carts nearby are generally returned and secured from rolling away.
