OK. Minor set back. But it runs at least.

Hopefully lake test tomorrow and then it goes to DS.

It will be a last minute deal. If so I will be rolling in late.

Hopefully they get it done! I just had some info come in on a job that might allow me to make it after all.

So the boat was not done. So I am missing DS despite being promised the boat would be finished and I would be able to go. Unfortunately things got left until the last minute and it was not done. All of these problems should have been addressed long ago.

The bottom line is the engine should been installed in this boat a LONG, LONG time ago. The boat has been in Socal waiting for install since September 2017. (and also 6 weeks in July and August 2017). So it has been in Socal for the last 7 1/2 months and we are still not done.

If you look back in this thread you will see that originally the motor was supposed to be ready and installed in June 2017. We started in February 2017. Well here we are in April 2018. This situation is completely unacceptable.

I have previously considered moving it and discussed it with several other vendors but the main problem has been no one wants to take on this project without essentially starting over and in some cases switching some parts. Also now everyone is busy so most don't want to touch it. It would have been easier to move it during the winter. Plus I have paid for everything already so if I move it then I have to make a redundant payment for a portion of the install. (after what I paid for this boat that would really suck)

I could have done things slightly different but assurances were made to me all along that this project would be completed. With the benefit of hind sight I see my mistake was not moving the install and tune to someone else earlier.

Fuck that is some BS. You talk to Alexi at Boostpower about the EFI?

Alexi is one of the guys who I talked to and he can obviously handle it but they are super busy now.

I waited too long and got into their busy season.

Incidentally I was very close to moving it to BP in January and now regret not doing so.

Wow just read the the whole thread and you have every right to be pissed off!! Can't figure out why the motor builder hasn't completed his end of the deal? Seems like plenty of time to get it together unless I'm missing something! Hopefully this builder comes thru for you!!!!

Wow, what a bummer. Sucks when you pay good money for the promise of good work and get less.
I feel your pain having operated with the mantra of treating people the way you would like to be treated. I have come to the conclusion that only the squeaky wheel gets greased so you gotta be a pain in ass customer to get what you want anymore.

If by some chance you find your way up to Shasta this summer give a shout out, I'd be happy to buy you a drink and commiserate.

I don’t know a lot about the situation, but I have heard that Brian is sick. I haven’t heard it directly from him though. I hope it’s just a rumor. If I what I heard is true about what’s going on, motors are the least of his worries. He’s always been a stand up guy and I hope he pulls through this.

I had lengthy discussions on his situation in the past and he gave me his personal assurance on numerous occasions that it would be completed at several different dates prior to DS. His personal assurance played a central role in my decision making process.

I could have made other arrangements a long time ago to have someone else either do a portion of the work or do all the remaining work.

The most amicably plan that I came up with in December was to have someone else do the grunt work of the rigging then let him finish the final tune. I think this would have been fair for everyone and the project would have been completed months ago.

We did not go this route since I was given assurances that the boat would have been done already. It wasn't so here we are.

In the immortal words of the late, great Patrick Swayze...."Be nice....until it's time to NOT be nice". Now would be that time. I'd be at DEFCON 5 about yester-year. I have a significant issue with folks doing what they say they are going to do. I oversee 850+ folks across 4 states and when it comes to customer service we occassionally fumble the ball.....when we realize it we pay whatever it takes to fix the issue, typically we lose money making it right. That's how you keep customers coming back. Big business.....small business, don't care - same formula. Time to send a demand letter and if you need to pull it and pay more elsewhere....they get to pay the bill. MHO.

The engine was supposedly ready to go last week or so I am told.

But the power steering broke and torpedoed the whole operation. (the PS was previously installed elsewhere)

It still needs a final tune but it should be up and running shortly, I hope.

Hope to have it on the water soon.

Sorry about your engine not being done. So B&D has it ? Just asking --- they were the ones whom started the engine build to begin with, correct ? Again Just asking.

I have been following along. This seems like a big frustration that has gone no where. I keep checking in to hopefully read some good news.

Sorry for your problems and hope you get them resolved soon and on the water [emoji106] [emoji202]

I don’t see a wake.
All you proved is it’s BY water. :D

None of this would have happened if I didn’t live 450 miles away. I would have seen it myself.

Its easy to ignore the guy you don’t have to look in the eye.

Its back at EB now. Have you been by there? Go check it out

I’ve not, since early last week.
They’re getting some molds ready. This is my calm before the storm, lol.
I might be by tomorrow or the next day.
Do I need to kick someone for you?

LOL

Actually I almost did and I almost posted here asking that very question. I was going to fly in, so I would then need a co-pilot and truck. Almost put a thread up asking for some help. I wanted to run it to resolve a technical issue and get some data before I went home.

But I think we got the issue resolved so a lake test was not needed. (I hope)

I think I will miss you by a day or so. We are coming into town later this week.

I did not get a top speed number out of it yet. I need to get it out and do that myself.

Maybe a water test to make sure everything is right before you drag it back up here. Maybe have the engine builder along for the test ride. Just my thoughts after all this time.

I was talking to EB about this exact thing. I think we are good.

They were gonna look it over for me.

I finally decided to pull the trigger on a new boat build. So I went with a new Eliminator 27 Speedster closed bow. It will have a custom 540 EFI motor from B&D Marine and XR Drive with full hydraulic steering. I really like the looks of this boat which is why we went with this particular model. The paint colors will be similar to mine, white/blue but we are adding a bit of silver. I will leaving the design up to the Gel coater at Eliminator since that is not my forte.

I have some stereo ideas so I hope to irritate the neighbors with that. :p

What I was looking for was a 27' single engine cat that could do 90 mph for 6 passengers. But I wasn't really interested in a blower motor, twin whackers (although those new 400's are the ticket) or going much faster than 100 mph. When Bob showed me this boat in person a few years ago I got a good look at it in person and I was pretty much sold at that point. I looked at the 28 Speedster with twin whackers but that is above my pay grade.

Presently I have an 25 ICC boat with a 496HO (see Eliminator spam section:p) I not only like the look of the new quarter canopy but also overall lines of the 27 Speedster. Plus the added performance of the 540 is what I was after really. So rather than do a motor swap and dump a bunch of money into mine it made more sense to sell mine and upgrade to new.

This story is one of patience. I bought my current boat in 2004 with the 496HO because it was already built and was sitting on the lot. I liked the colors a lot so I bought it. However even at that time (2004) I wanted a slightly larger motor but couldn't quite afford it at that time. I kept telling myself that we can always do a motor swap in the future. Fast forward 13 years and the 496HO is still there. :p I really like the 27 Daytona but couldn't afford it at the time either. I did extensive research in 2004 on what motor I wanted to build and it was a 540 EFI. So the dream since 2004 was to own a 27' cat with a 540 motor.

Anyway I looked again in 2008/2009 at the 27 Daytona but we all know what happened in 2009. :p :eek:grumble: So life happens, kids, our main campground we frequent at Lake Berryessa gets shut down and we sour on going to the lake. Over time boating friends change a bit and we do more "family boating".

Then the 27 Speedster comes out and I get a good look at it in 2013. I think this is a nice boat but why do I want a new boat since my current slow one is just fine. (you know how you try to justify keeping the slow boat because it makes more "sense"? Ya neither can I ;)) So I drive around in the 496 kidding myself while telling everyone how nice it is to have a turn key boat while going 70 mph all the while dying inside from boredom. :p So in 2016 finally I start talking about motor upgrades for my 25. Since I had a good idea of what I wanted I started making some calls. First I thought maybe do a 525 swap but upon further inspection that makes no sense since I am limited my potential and I am not a big fan of Merc anyway. Then I start talking to more people and come to the conclusion that if I build a brand new motor that it makes more sense putting it in a new build rather than swap out my older boat. (that is a long discussion but it centers around resale values of doing both options and leaving the Merc option in the old boat)

So after talking to the motor builder at length about the build which is a 540 EFI I started getting excited about the new power. The list of parts alone gets the blood flowing.:skull Dart, Callies, Brodix are you kidding me. :D That new power would go great with a new boat build.

So after haggling with Bob a few rounds here we are with a new boat. I said why not business is good I can always make some more money to replace the money I just wasted. (We don't consider it wasted but those other people do. fawk em :D)

We hope to have it by early summer.

Gary is going to post some pictures as they just started on the Gel today.

More to come.

Awesome story and very happy for you!
We live up here in NorCal and primarily boat on the Delta (7 miles away from Orwood where we launch).
Looking forward to seeing the boat, although I gotta say wish you went with OB’s. Economically a lot cheaper in maintenance, of course you won’t get that top end but all day cruise speed is way better. Just my two cents, again congrats and can’t wait to see it!!!!!

I like OB’s but I am a car boat motor guy. The same boat with twin 400’s was way more $$ but a great package for sure.

I think we met at the Big Cat last year. You have the 27 with 300’s. I was there with this boat and a smaller motor

Hope to see you out at the Delta soon

Touchdown!

I ran down friday and picked it up then went to the Delta on Sunday.

I didn’t run it very hard trying to break it in first. Nothing new to report other than it runs good.

Sounds and looks good
