Boom this is what I would/will build when the boys are a bit older but with 4 seats across the back and two in front. I was waiting to see pics of it...bad ass for sure. Can't wait to see the 28 opened up up as well.

Ultimate mix of family and performance. I would have them do a WTOB and throw an insert in the mold so that you could walk out the front. Personally I don't like the seating setup of the one he posted, I think its ugly but all that space is awesome!!

Eliminator now has a full inner-liner mold for the 27' and soon the 28' Speedster Outboard versions. Gives the customer much more flexibility in their build ... more space, more seating options, etc.

Is there more pictures of this?

Cool idea and configuration. What would make it even better is if the center row was easily removable.

Even crying Jordan wouldn't sit in those seats. Not a fan.

Looks like an amusement park ride. Only fun for driving fast, no good for lounging around.

What about them do you not like?
This is the great thing about the mfgs participating here, they can get real world opinions from real world boaters.
Creative criticism or suggestions how you'd set up the interior is pure gold to them.:thumbsup

What do you want to see? Side lounges? U shaped lounge? Back to back buckets?

Personally back to back with the front seats. Integrate a little old school with modern.

I'd say have a bench rear or sides that you can kick back on when you're parked.

Probably the only thing I don't like about the 28 speedster was the fact that you had a gigantic engine compartment when going outboards.

Not a fan of the 7 seat program it just looks forced to me. Honestly if the back hatch area was say 12-16" longer it would give you adequate storage and a more visual balanced interior with a ton of interior space. This is a personal thing. It I just don't like the individual buckets in the rear I would do a bench that still had some flair to match the front seats.

I wonder how it would look with those middle seats on the right and left vs the center.

Then put the front seats and middle seats on a trick low pro swivel that locked every 90 degrees. Then when your parked you can all see each other and hang.

Plus you could have a cooler in the middle of everyone.

Badass boat [emoji1303][emoji1303][emoji1303] eliminator way to open up the interior.

Is that center seat removable? I wonder if that is there for only when they need two extra seats?

Skater!!

Lol

They are actually building a few new 28s again. One is getting widened 12" getting a flat deck, windshield and 400s. Should run north of 130

28 RGR/Fat Cat is a mini Doug Wright. True Tunnel Cat and affordable.

Also very exotic and has the racing technology built into it.

They have a build thread here on RDP in the 'What's New from the Mold".

However, if you want a bad azz all around boat....from big lakes to ocean..... the 32 Doug Wright is the best your gonna get. Reigning Outboard World Championship boats for the last 19 years. I know I own one....handling, speed, rough water capability and turning all benchmark categories in one hull.

Aside from pointing you in one direction. All the 28's are good boats it just comes down to what your tastes and budget will accommodate.

Have fun and enjoy the process.

U shaped, lounge / bench seats behind the driver and passenger facing the rear and bucket seats across the back. Performance boat meets pontoon.:thumbsup

I like that idea, although I never planned to have that many people on my sled, so don't need it, I went back to a 21 , old school baby. [emoji6] [emoji202] [emoji106]

I do not think you could go wrong with any of them. Not really crazy about having a ton of people in a boat like that (performance cat). Specifically an OB boat. To me would does not make sense - I have owned a boat with 300XS and even with the extra HP I can imagine the boat hauling @$$ when you are hauling a bunch of @$$. :D Building a new boat when rumors of the increased power plants on the near horizon does not really appeal to me either (I understand you have to pull the trigger at some point). If I could do it I think a Skater 28 retooled would be pretty awesome. :thumbsup

Definitely some interesting things on the horizon for the performance outboard market. I just heard today that Volvo Penta has purchased a majority ownership share in Seven Marine, manufacturer of the 557 and 627 horsepower outboard engines. Volvo says that Seven Marine will continue to operate as a stand-alone company and brand, but you can't help but think that with Volvo's unlimited capital and R&D resources that something big is coming soon in the outboard market.

Something that makes good power and weighs less than 500 lbs would be KILLER!! (Highly doubtful though)

You can't get there (130 MPH) with stock ECM's - the only gear ratio selection is 1.75. Biggest pitch prop is 36. Assuming 10% slip and on the rev limiter at 7000 you get 122.69 mph in perfect conditions

Change the rev limit to 7500 you get there 131.46 MPH

Take a look on Utube at the new style Doug Wright running with stock 400's (the one with the full wrap windshield) that was rigged at Grant's Signiture rigging in Florida). You will see the actual RPM's and MPH that was acheived with stock 400 ECM's - dead on the money at 122 MPH on the limiter

What is the rough OTD price on the M29 with 400's and trailer? Yes I know there are a shitload of options but something nicely equipped.

These outboard boats are getting like 5% slip tho.

The DW has since ran 124 with 34s I believe. The 318 Skater ran 122 with 34s. Even the 368 ran 119 with 33s or 34s I believe. So for the 318 that's about 5.2 % slip and I know the DW was around 3-4. So for that 28 to do 130 we are looked my at 4.65% which I think is actually more possible then not.

Thanks Precision... The slip number of 10% is way off. The newer DW has really low slip efficiency. Lastly doing 130 is not really the goal. Acceleration and driveabilty is more important just my opinion.
Plus, first swell you hit in a 28 at 120 and you will rethink everything rather quickly.

Great Thread Jason you have so many choices all the bad ass west coast family modvp cats perfect for lakes and smooth water that fucking hull ass Vs. the real big water cats? DW and Skater..

If I was going to drop that coin a D.W. would be at the top of the list considering Skater 318 $$$ coin:thumbsup

Both of the MFG's that I have spoken with (personally) tell me that no one has gotten better than 8% slip and so if they are getting 5% slip that would be pretty amazing. Not a lot of performance boats in the world operating at 8% slip, 5% might might be a new world record if its true (and I don't believe its true). The bigger speed numbers (like the 28 Eliminator that ran a big number locally) had modified ECM's, not stock.

Troy Hannon rigged a new style Doug Wright 32 full canopied boat for Michel Karsenti who I used to race against in Super V. It is s full canopied pleasure boat. I am told it ran 124 with stock 400's but the Canopied boat will have a couple MPH advantage.

Top speed is always what these threads focus on and what these MFG's use as the "HOOK" to lure Buyers.... so 130 absolutely is the goal if you are trying to sell them and when you own one that's what you talk about - its human nature. You drop $350K on an outboard CAT and you don't aspire to be able to say "mine is almost as fast as that one"...

I agree that acceleration is a big deal having owned several multi engine Outboard Skaters - which is why I questioned the wisdom of "loading up the boats" with rows of seating and lots of humans.

All of them are going to be relatively driveable - DCB's drive like a car very glued in all the time. DW and Skater will be aired out at speed drive completely differently. Don't know much about the Nordic other than Pauls seems to run just fine.

As for hitting a "swell" in a 28 - depends upon who is driving it and what boat we are talking about. I have raced right next to 28 Skaters in legit 3-4 footers in the Ocean (actual races that mattered) in speed rages from 100-110 MPH and they fly dead level, no problem at all. And besides, its Lake Havasu...... the average "swell" is about 1/2 of 1 foot on a rough day...

I feel like a calm day in havasu is 1/2 to 1', while it's no ocean, havasu get blown out pretty quick and gets relatively rough for a smaller body of water...

New To Boating- Agree with everything you just said.

But an FYI on the prop slip, Predator had 5% or less. So did the other wicked fast 388s that went to Loto and ran 190+

The people that probably tell you it's not possible, are my guess the ones that can't get THEIR boats to do it.

Speedsters?

I think he is talking about Dale Dondels boat. There was a picture of the vessel view showing somewhere in the neighborhood of 7200 or 7300ish on the max rpm next to the speed if I remember correct.

It was another picture that was posted when he made his 126-127 pass that goes with the picture you posted of the speedo. I don't know if it's still up or not and don't really care just was trying to help out when you questioned the poster when he said "speedsters" when he was only talking about that boat.

I'm not trying to slam you guys Gary so don't take it that way. That boat is impressive no doubt and you guys did and do a killer job with the speedsters! :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

So will the rumored 450-500 verado be a 400 with a pulley change?

Just so you all know the listed power band for the 400R is 6400-7000rpm. 7000 is not the redline and with VV7 you can adjust the redline some.

I did it with my 300XS and it doesn't take any special computer mods. I spoke with Nordic and Mercury before doing this and adjusted mine to 6450rpm redline when the factory sets the power band at 5400-6100rpm and 6150 limiter.

This was only a rumor but I heard the 450 was a pulley change or some other minor change. The 500 was a completely different engine. Again though, only rumor.

Hmmm:

Well call Doug and ask him what kind of slip numbers people are seeing. A 4.72 slip number is very realistic and obtainable...now not in every boat. However, having said that slip isn't always the determining factor. If your putting out resumes of accomplishments than you should know the top end number and slip are diametrically opposed numbers. When I set the speed record in LOTO in my Howard my slip numbers were atrocious but the top speed number was monster [Note: This was when we didn't get a running start but rather idle in gear start...far more difficult]. The fastest single engine V-Bottom Howard 28 Bullet ever recorded had a slip of 17.9 at 131.3 MPH. That number has not been touched yet in a single engine V-Bottom. So much for the slip theory and top speed.

Michel's boat had some of the first 400R's and I believe that the first ones were detuned to live so Mercury could see how they perform. The latest line of 400R's are really putting put out the power as evidenced by the top speed numbers as of late that are skyrocketing. Conclusion the new 400R's are hotter aka more HP.

NOTE: The bottoms on these latest boats are also chamfered [grooved to let the gear case go even higher] not a real stretch to understand why they do it...top speed. Michel's boat does not have this grooved bottom if he did it would gain 4-6MPH.

As for loading up the boats I disagree it is what pleasure boating is about you don't have to fly the boat with passengers but if the need should arise you know the boat is capable.

I have driven 28 and 30 Skater's and they simply do not compare to a 32 DW in any category. Kyler and Dan L old DW's were incredibly fast for older style DW's. Talked with Jay Price former Formula 1 Champion and he agrees night and day difference. Victory, DW and Ocke hulls are light years ahead of any other manufacturer. The latest DW Scott Porta is working on is going to be a real game changer. I really trust and believe he will make it hella fast.

Now as for a 28 Skater racing in SBI against any style DW and you will be hoping for others to DNF in order to place. Everyone knows size in the ocean matters [Note: I did not say swells existed in Havasu boat wakes for sure]. I don't care who you are in the rough Pacific Ocean swells or hitting boat wakes in LOTO the bigger the boat the better off you are. If you dispute this then...well your mistaken or at best don't mislead boaters into a comfort zone of danger. Hence why Doug is building a 35 400OB boat.

Back to thread topic a 28 is good for most boating on rivers and lakes. However, if your going to have one boat and hit the ocean say Catalina or the Gulf.... save your duckets and buy 32DW or bigger the 368 Skater with the ROS motors is my second favorite boat. I am currently building a 24 OB boat because on the lower Colorado river a 32 is over kill and my wife's boat is too slow:D so a 24 would be perfect.

P.S. If your not in a hurry wait a couple months E-Ticket will have something out here that might interest you.

Kap - which 24 OB boat are you building? Would love to hear more about it and pictures.

I could write a book about it but the title says it all. And I've had a lot of Cats over the years.
