Who is going to prove these accusations are accurate or valid. You can't and you can't ask #509 or PGF457. They are the 2 sides in a 3 sided story. In case you haven't heard about this rule, let me explain. There are 3 sides to every story, #509's side, PGF457's side and then you have the truth.

I'm not judging anyone or anything based on someones internet posting. I'll read and log what I see in my memories but until I experience something for myself, its all just internet horseshit.

You want to say the deal went bad. That's fine. But don't lay it out there as fact when you have no basis to back that up. You want 509s side, call him. You want to see the evidence, go see the hull and decide for yourself. Both have offered to share their side of the story personally with anyone that feels the need to contact them. But don't read something on the internet and expect that to be the the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Its a fine line we have to walk regarding this stuff. The rules say not to bash other members. Just because a member is also a manufacturer doesn't not absolve you from following the rules of the site.
That right there is what made my BASHING comment from yesterday. Its the ones who dont know what the fuck is going on that are going to run there mouth because of what they read.

It's perfectly fine to come on here and post something about how great a company has performed but it's not O.K. to come on here and post something that is not great with a certain company? Your right Dave, it's your site and you can do with it whatever you would like with it.

"At the end of the day though.. I'd like you to know your a dick".

Another good one!
it seems one way to me

Just so it's clear, I did talk with Steve about what happened in great detail. I have known Steve for a few years now, and he has always been nothing but a straight up person to me as well as everyone that I have spoke with about him.

Here's some facts: Steve wanted a hull/boat. He ordered a hull/boat from Ron (again so it's clear, I do not know Ron. I know Alex very well). He went to get his hull/boat and the quality was not what was described to him and was even agreed to by the builder. It was agreed to by both to build Steve another hull/boat. That agreement fell apart shortly afterwords. Now this hull/boat (with most likely safety issues) is for sale to some unsuspecting buyer that may not know what to look for when buying a hull/boat. Steve brought this to peoples attention as well as his dissatisfaction with the whole deal.

All Steve wanted was a hull/boat that was described to him. If this hull/boat was that, then why would Steve not have it right now? I personally know Steve would have loved nothing more than to have a quality hull/boat in his possession right now and putting it together.

as an observer..... I would have to say if I was building a product
that was introduced to the public by way of a second hand used part dealer( not a wise move IMO) which unintentionally I'm sure, started this venture on a bad foot, That I would have made every effort to make sure this "Race Hull" being built was the best possible, Everybody Knew that this hull would have been examined with a fine tooth comb.

I understand "509" didn't like what he saw and don't blame him one bit
for not wanting to sacrifice his safety on something that bothered him.
I also think he had an obligation to the people that have or were going to order a hull based on him stepping up and going with an unproven product to report his experience.

Dave I also understand the rule of not bashing a manufacturer and think
you needed to cut short the direction this thread was headed.

As a manufacturer, I feel Ron is obligated to continue this thread
and address this issue if he is going to make it in this venture.
I'm not looking for a argument, but Ron has to know what 509 didn't like.
maybe he can share just exactly what happened with this hull.

JUST MY 2 cents

The nail has been swiftly hit on the head! (But the boat was said to be "unsafe" to Steve!)
one more post and that will be 10 so that I can reply to the PM's on this site!

I have spoken with and done business with Ron and he seems like a stand up guy.and as a General Contractor, I have had issues with sub contractors and had to rectify problems where they simply did not follow directions or cut corners. It is always good when I am able to correct a problem or replace an incorrect product prior to the customer finding out about it.

As they say, good press reaches 10 people and bad press reaches 100. I believe Ron is really trying to better the sport for the masses and help the do it yourselfers to get their junk right. I hope He is able to continue producing boats at a good price and be able to maintain quality and safety standards. As many know lawyers have been the killers of many great companies. I can't wait to see what 509 comes out with. God knows it will be faster than me.

You guys are intermingling PB and here in your minds or something.. If someone has bashed other mfg's on here please point me in the direction and I'll deal with it swiftly.

As far as you're post, I can't remember word for word what it said but it was pretty rough..

If people are curious, your phone #'s in it.. they can call you, and I think the exact same point is made, without all the rest of it.. Don't you?

I have no financial interest in this guy Ron's company what so ever.. I don't think I've ever even talked to the guy. I'm just trying to avoid members bashing mfg's like everywhere else, because mfg's will not participate if that's the case.

If this guy screwed you then figure it out.. Get a refund, sue him, break some legs or however you want to handle it. That's between you and him.. Not you and the rest of the world on here.

On that note though, what did you expect? You pay 6K (or whatever) for a boat built out of somebodies garage.. You're gonna get 6K (or whatever) worth of boat built out of somebodies garage.. LOL

RD
Dave,Ron is not building in his garage. i have gelled 2 boats for him,and My financial interest in his company will represent all of about 5% of my household income.that said i was there for the whole ugly mess on monday, and any body can pm me.and leave a phone #for my take.Steve was a very angry man that day,but directed none of it at me and i thank and respect him for that.

I think some of you guys are maybe mistunderstanding what I'm saying here.. So I will try to explain it a little clearer..

Lets ask a question. Is anybody here not perfectly clear on the fact that #509 is not happy with the boat? Is anybody here not perfectly clear that the boat was apparently not up to standards?

Why does it always have to be..

"Fuck that guy, FUCK THAT GUY, fuckin POS boats, blah blah blah" ending in world war III, ultimately (inevitably) ending up with "next time I see you.. m'fer"

Doesn't this accomplish the same thing? Minus all the drama B.S.?

"XYZ is not building boat # 509, I was not happy with the end result, the quality was not what I was expecting. I've since got my money back, and have placed an order with ABC.. If anybody has any questions as to why you can call XXX-XXX-XXXX."

So because I don't think every little situation (and yes boys and girls this is a "little" situation) should end in Fuck You's, and world war III, that makes me a dick?

Let me fill a couple of you guys in on somethings that are undeniable facts..

This situation isn't all that people are making it out to be. Lets put aside the boat, and the he said / she said bullshit for a minute and just look at one thing.

#509 ordered a product.. Wasn't happy with it, and got his money back

That last part in itself is HUGE. Do you know how many people place deposits only to see that money spent finishing a previous build that a customer has been waiting on for months? The boat industry is a shady place for sure..

Even though the deal didn't work out.. The fact that all parties walked away from it "whole" means this deal can end fairly amicably. So 509 got set back 4'ish weeks on a boat.. Let me tell you a lot worse things can happen in life, especially in this econonmy in the boat business..

That's my thought process on it.. If that makes me a dick according to sdpm, then so be it.

Larry like I said to you monday you did a GREAT job on the gelcoat. Hope we can do business in the future. It is a damn shame that a single phone call telling me not to waste my time coming up, that the boat would not be released to me could have prevented this. Not wait tell a guy takes a day off of work to drive hours up the freeway to pick up a boat.

Now to read that the boat I could not take was too "unsafe" for me, will be on the river soon. Makes me wonder??

Does that seem weird to anyone else. And just so I am clear I knew the boat had problems a week before the scheduled pick up date.

Steve,as far as the phone calls,i wasn't there much the week prior so i cant say.i dont think the boat will hit water anytime soon as Alex will be repairing it.i have seen much worse damaged or blem boat repaired to provide the owner with many years of recreational service. the " unsafe "comment you refer to is you intent to race it at what 130-140 mph? a repaired boat will not do in this case[my opinion]. as to the new boat,i dont think that will fly with GS as he has a long standing buisness relationship with another gelcoater, but im willing to if they are.Buisness is buisness after all. and once again good luck to you with your return to racing:thumbsup

Definately the truth there Dave. How many people payed for boats only to show up at the shop to find the place locked up and everything gone. Leaving Whole is a win win. I know how hard the decision was to go with Edge Performance Marine as with anyone going to plunk down the coin for a new hull. I know after this I would be a little gun shy as to the builder I chose next. I would also be a little upset knowing that there was going to be an identical boat to the color scheme I wanted. I hope everything works out for the best for all parties involved.

Dave, I think Neil may have had an opinion prior to this thread. lol.

As you will see, it was "quoted" when I wrote it. Just returning a PM that you sent to me.

Funny thing here is you say that you don't allow bashing, name calling, etc, then what do you call all the BS you as well as alot of others on here were posting/saying about Performance Boats just recently? You didn't like the way something was said or handled and took it upon yourself to tell the world!

You have your thoughts and I have mine.

The boat in question was going to be used as a river boat Only, untill the new one was complete which at that time I even offered to sell the boat back rigged. I thought this was very fair and so did Ron. This deal was made on Friday 5/21. I told ron I would be there monday 5/24 to pick up the boat, he agreed and we wished each other a good weekend. Monday I show up and he had a change in heart. this is and was fine but to think his time is more valuable than mine and that he could not give me a call before I wasted my day. Thats what pushed me over the edge!

For the record Ron has built 3 very nice hulls. I dont know what went wrong with mine nor do I care at this point. But that is the reason I left pissed off and will NEVER have anything to do with EPM. This is the worst part as two of my best freinds will have EPM boats.

MAKES ME SICK!

This was one guy trying to help another, Ron was helping me get into a boat like the one I crashed. I was hoping that if my boat worked it could help sell other boats. In fact 2 of my good freinds ordered boats from ron to put on the race track as well before they even saw mine. I even let Ron use my trailer for almost a month to move boats around as I had No use for it. I thought of Ron as a freind at the time and thought nothing of it. I just feel if Ron had been straight up with me like I was the whole time this still could of worked out.

I've known Steve for 3-4 years he is a great guy and I'm sorry this happened to him. We talked for a bit this morning and he told me he is damn glad he got his money back. I have to admit that is not typical in a deal like this.

It sucks this deal didn't work out but hopefully Edge Performance well get a few quality boats on the water. Lord knows they're going to need to after this.

Ron read the rules (again)

It would seem to me that everybody here has been on message boards before so I'm going to take a slightly different route then everywhere else with regards to the "rules."

(My faith in humanity getting to me again)

This is a Boating & Customs (anything custom) website primarilly. Please keep the topics atleast somewhat related? If it's just shooting the breeze, then please keep that in "The Lounge"

Common Sense rules are in effect.

The usuals :
Multiple Screen Names, Threatening Someone, Involving Peoples Wives and G/F's, etc.. etc.. That'll all get ya Warning, or two (depending on what it is) and then your out the door. I realize that there's alot of "Grey" areas with regards to that, as people have different ideas of what ok and what's not.

To clear that "grey" area up, it really doesn't matter what anyone other then Myself, or the people that are moderating the forum think. If your pushing it just to push it, then odds are your stay will be short.

As much as I'd like to have a completely "drama" free site, I realize people don't get along, and it's a matter of time before something happens. Keep it to friendly ribbing and you'll get no problems from me. When it crosses that line from "funny" to "angry" is the only time I'll ever get involved.

This is a PG site, so lets leave the Porn to porn sites, and the boats to the boatsites. If you'd get an indecent exposure ticket for it, then it doesn't belong here.

Rules relevant to bashing businesses

If you have a problem with a mfg / dealer / biz from either business dealings in the past, present etc. Then handle it in Private! Via a PM, E-Mail, Phone Call, Lawsuit etc.. Whatever the problem maybe, it is between YOU and THEM, not the rest of the world.

I have never been a fan of people using the internet to "leverage" what they want out of a business, nor have I ever been a fan of someone trying to hurt anothers livelihood through the use of an online message board. "Flaming/Bashing" the businesses that choose to participate in this site is not an option.

The participation of manufacturers & dealers on my website is far more important to me then some guys need to publicly lambast them.
Please show them the respect they deserve.

AMENDMENT TO BOTH SETS OF RULES.. NO POLITICAL THREADS IN THE LOUNGE. PERIOD POINT BLANK END OF STORY..

RD

You caught some shit for it, but it wasn't "ridiculous" as you're making it out to be.. I might add a member of the RDP staff told them to knock it off as well (JBB).. Had he not, I was getting ready too. That being said, that was something personal between you and someone else? Not boat mfg' A. and Member B. etc...

To clarify though, sure members can talk a little shit on each other.. It's a forum and it'd be naive to think that it's not going to happen.

I'd just prefer to keep "business" as "business" and personal as personal.. Hence the clarity above as to how it pertains to business.

These are the most "laid back" set of rules of any message board that I'm on.. People gotta go pretty far in order to break them.

You have your thoughts and I have mine.

sdpm, most the time on the internet people will claim shit and not have to back it up..

Well, back it up.. Please quote / link any post I have written bashing PB, or anyone else for that matter.. "just recently" I supposedly didn't like the way something was said or handled and took it upon myself to tell the world..

Lets see it...

When you come up dry (because you will), will you say that you we're wrong?

It was awhile back, when PB shut down some metal wax threads or something.. Some members we're complaining about what's fair or what wasn't etc.. Info being the moderator on PB took some heat for it on here defending the position. Again not a big deal, and has absolutely nothing to do with this in my mind.

RiverDave,

I have never had a problem admitting when I have either been wrong or have wronged someone! I will try and search for it and if it is still on here I will find it.

Neither do I.. You find it and I'll say I was wrong.

On that note, why not post up pictures of what you got going on around the shop? I'm sure the members would like to see it..

and I'm pretty sure we've covered the whole "businesses" are somewhat safe from bashing on here now.. :D

Even if it makes me the asshole to have it that way.

On that note with regard to the PB front...

I let PB advertise on here when they we're first getting started..
I let PB come on here and give away magazine subscriptions,
I let members come on here and start attendance lists for the "PB Forum Party" last year.. and sticky'd it for them to make it easier.
I let PBstore.com com on here and post threads with regard to their new store / shirts for sale and other wheres..

To say I've been "unfair" or talking shit or something is ludicrous.. I'm as laid back as it gets.. I'll also mention I don't think any of that would go both ways if I did it over there.

i find it funny that some come over here and complain about some removing of posts with good explaination. why don't you guys keep posting on the thread at pb.com and see how far that gets you. lol. let alone this guy isn't an advertiser there so it would probably get shut down before it started.

Pretty impressed with the way the two parties involved handled it, bad as it was.

Also impressed with the way it has ended up from Dave's side. Pretty cool stuff.

I just feel if Ron had been straight up with me like I was the whole time this still could of worked out.

so really what your mad at is the fact that he didn't call you before you went up there? change of heart, he know the boat was bad? so this wasn't going to be a race boat? if that was the case and this was his first boat popped, and he had three others that were fine, why not give him a shot to build you a new one, if he was willing to? you said yourself that he built three nice ones. i'd tell your buddys to hold off on takin one down the track until one makes it on the water :D
