It now seems as though the town/Chamber members of Needles are willing to put in the work to make $money$, but not enough work to make the LEOs, and participants SAFE and HAPPY .

I talked to Billy an hour ago, and am going to offer my assistance to either him or the chamber to fix a lot of the problems they had this year. If they take it, they take it.. If they don't they don't. I'd like to see the event continue and grow to even larger than it was last year. Most of the problems they had this year are easily / and affordably solvable.

When the engines were decoupled, how did the power from engine 1 pass through engine 2 to get to a driveshaft?

They were tandem side by side, each coupled into a gearbox, then a single shaft from the gearbox into the transmission, then out of that to a single prop shaft. There were two pairs of this setup, so 4 engines with 2 prop shafts.

It’s a shame you missed us.. We were parked next to the Nordic Semi, and brought a lot of great shirts to the show, and what is in my opinion the boat that should have won the whole show..

We brought “Renegade” with Dave Sammons. There is so much history behind this boat it is unreal.. The build alone should have taken it down.

Now I’m wondering if maybe the judges didn’t see it?

Last all wood campbell ever made.. 1300 HP from 1967, and yes it flat halls ass.

Dave is a personal friend of the Dean family and wanted me to post this for him to give some insight on the build

From 1970 Hot Rod Magazine article. Seats were made by Solar Plastics which was a company owned by Steve McQueen, the owners knew him personally. In later years they were replaced with shorter back seats.

Headers by Jardine only made it one race and were replaced by the Paragons on it now.

Originally had bellhousing starter. Put a power glide in for the restoration for practicality. Still have bellhousing and double flywheel.

I knew the seats had some kinda history to them.. Dave told me something about it, and I was overwhelmed with the rest of the history and couldn't remember it all.

Don't know if this has already been mentioned in this thread but that freight-train Campbell sure looks like the Ralph Muravez owned ski race Campbell of the early 1970s. If it is, I recall racing against it at the annual Lake Mead 50 and 75 Milers in early September of 1970. It was a cool boat then and it's still a cool boat today.

Your right on the owners of the Campbell...
Let me try to help with some of what has been said...Our local sheriff friend who helped for 8 years of the show passed away...he was a tremendous buffer and Billy and the C O Commerce never had to worry about "rules" per se. Permitting seems easy...but it entails insurance...and that is like giraffe pussy...hard to find and when you do it's higher than hell...As to the tickets that were issued during the event...they were all torn up or "expunged" at the end of the day...Charlie Marquard had to go to his truck to find his...but the did throw it away...(K-450). This event is bad ass...I come from Idaho and haven't missed one. You will never see that kind of hardware in one parking lot anywhere in the world...20 fricken dollars to looks at millions in boats is a deal...anyway you look at it...plus a plane ticket plus a fee for spot at Needles Marina Park plus the cost of VODKA and the fuel and the food...but talking to 50 of my close boats amigo's is priceless..JMO

Insurance estimate 3k for 250k of liability.. calling K&K today which more specializes in things like this but I’d bet you could get a million plus for 4-5.

Good morning....Well another Hot Boat & Custom Car Show is in the books. Weather & upcoming boat races lost us some boats this yr. But all n all it was a great day. And its really good to see a bunch of new hardware out here as well. I'd like to thank Murphy Broadcasting for there continued support. Putting the show out on there airwaves every year has help build this show to what it is today. Nordic Boats...Every yr I make the call to Thane & to Randy Davis, asking for help. And these past few yrs you guys have not only stepped up with $$$, but have helped out with bringing the rig and several of your beautiful builds as well. So thank you. NRI...Nick Rose Insurance. Can't thank you enough for all you have done. Your 2nd yr and you continue to grow the show with participants, vendors, & with enthusiasm. Anyone looking for Hot Boat Ins this is you company..NRI

. Gene & Darin Welter from Seal Menthods. They along with Pirate Cove brought you the Cackle cars this yr. Or should I say they bought the nitro that fired the cars & two Top Fuel Hydros as well. Thank you guys. And to A-1 Heating & Air/ Pat Minegar & Paul Vaughan / Kindsvater Boats for the awesome "BADD ASS BOAT & CAR TROPHIES". Paul made the trophies that were over the top kool. This is the 2nd yr that Pat Minegar has wanted to do this. This yr the game was stepped up. Not only with the trophies, but with each winner getting a $250.00 cash prize from A-1 Heating & Air. Thank you both. It was very kool. That brings up another topic. This show like many others doesn't go without drama. We have "TOP 10 AWARDS"...I personally hate "AWARDS". We all think we have a one of a kind build or the nicest trickest install. Or the best paint job. IMO i'd rather not have the TOP 10. But participants love to get them so they will continue. There is no favoritism. The judges that walk around and pick them are not from this area, nor do they know any of you. Are they boat guys? Absolutely. Do they know what to look for? Absolutely. So when I hear comments of favoritism over what is really the nicest of the nice. It really chaps my ass. Like I have always said, nice is in the eye of the beholder. You all have very nice pieces and should be very proud of what you have. This show was created as a get together in the off season to bring people together to come and hang with your friends & make new ones. And to enjoy a common interest. Nothing more. I'm very proud to say it has been 10yrs of fun. 10yrs of seeing friends & making new ones. 10yrs of seeing the smaller boat guys get some recognition. To see old race boats, lake boats, and river racers, that would of been left for dead recreated. And 10yrs of building what is now the largest HOT BOAT SHOW in the nation. And all of you, the participants, sponsors, spectators, are to be thanked for this. And last but not least by any means....The Needles Chamber and the many many volunteers that it takes to pull a show of this size off. Its countless hrs of hard work. And every year there are new issues to address. And one by one we will continue to try and make this a fantastic weekend for you all to come enjoy your friends, Hot Boats & Custom Cars for years to come. Thank you & hope to see you next year....Billy B

Lol! Well I guess this squashes all the rumors of this being the last show at Needles. Drunk guys are worse than old woman when It comes to hearing hear say and passing it on. I'm as guilty as the next guy. Lol!

I'm referring to all the rumors that we're flying around at the golf tournament & boat show.
