So I have to have a meeting with Alvin and the Riviera and a few other people on the dates for SCFW 2025. Desert Storm has announced that they will be going on the last weekend of April. Easter falls on the third weekend of April and they have announced that the Boatshow will be on this weekend.

I am looking for historical weather patterns for the entire month of April over the last 10 or so years.. I am currently leaning towards the first weekend of April, but to be 100% clear, we are going to pick whatever weekend we are going to pick based on the weather / pros and cons of what is brought up in that meeting. The ONLY weekend that is completely ruled out of April for myself is Easter, because I don't think anyone wants to do a boating event on Easter weekend.

Anybody remember the websites were you can look up that kinda data?

Theres a million sites that allow you to look it up. Weather Underground lets you search by date and year, with location

Weather in April is always a crapshoot - I say convince them to move it to Mid October . . . it's always awesome that time of year!

So Desert Storm weekend is not ruled out? Why not first weekend of May?

Since april ends on a Wednesday next year i would go with first week of may, it doesn't conflict with mothers day and i think it would be better than beginning of april, plus it helps out the east coast guys that want to do both events, and your right Easter would not be good timing

Conflicts with the offshore races back east which a surprising number of people that came to scfw go to.

According to the climate nuts it was 20 degrees colder in the 90's if that helps🤪

Agree this is the best option. We tow from Oregon and if they aren't spaced within a week of each another, we have to choose one or the other.

It’s typically windy starting in May.

With Easter being later in 2025, it will hurt.
Without the events (SCFW & DS) on back to back weekends, IMO you’re going to impact Midwest and East coast attendance.

Remember early April is Spring Break for a ton of CA schools. That increases family traffic on the lake

Lol how come you didn’t announce your dates before Desert Storm did? Then you could pick whatever date you wanted and let them sweat it out. 😂

You'll never be able to pick a reliable date off historical data on April. Most historical data is from another weather station in a larger neighboring city even if it says Havasu.

Just pick a date. When we had friends and family come out in spring, Parker was always the back up plan because we knew the lake would most likely be blown out.

Maybe bake in an extra day for wind date, IDK.

Weather center at the Havasu Airport is accurate. Not sure the one by the Islander goes back that far.

Honestly living here, other than a handful of kids either in the Channel, or last year at rotary spring break doesn’t seem to have that big of an impact anymore.

Easter falling on the third week sucks..

Next year we “may” just go straight in water to allow for another free day of boating but adding a second dock party night.

There’s a few changes we are all considering and talking about, but before anything else happens we gotta pick a date.

I wanted the weather stuff to help make an informed decision on the weekend we pick. Honestly though between us that put it on and some of the higher level sponsors that’s what is gonna determine it. I’m pretty much over the idea of letting someone else determine my fate. Driving through the “fire lane” (known previously as Rdp street) in my golf cart that barely (and I mean barely) fit pretty much cured me of that.

First off, you name the date, we’ll fuckin be there. Best event on the lake!

Second, I agree two nights of dock party and remove the boats on trailer show. Keep em in the water as a water / dock boat show. Build a vendors village where the RDP trailer was. Keep it tight so no one is way out away. Always sucks when you’re the one out at the end.

I liked the food vendors where they were. And I think if you kept the stage where it was and staged the vendor village a little tighter (seemed there was some unused space that could’ve been “Tetris’d” a little better) it would make the vendors area easier to navigate.

The off road area down
By the water was really cool but it seems like it was detached from the rest of the event. If you could somehow bring the vendors closer to the beach area. Maybe have some more vendor tents or better yet, put the shock therapy semi and display closer to
That area.

Maybe one of the days do exhibition runs. Like 10am to 2 pm participants can do runs out in front of Riviera. Including scheduling the helicopter video shoots to run past the marina at a certain time. Seems that was one of the coolest parts of the event and location is watching guys doing hot laps out on the lake. Now, I realize there’s inherent liability of “organizing” that but still, if it could be done, it would be cool as shit. Not a shootout. Just a “show and go” of participants boats. I don’t know. Thinking outside the box. 😁

This of course is just off the cuff Monday morning quarterbacking constructive criticism. You could also keep it exactly the same and we still be there with bells on. Like I’ve said over and over. Fantastic event. Best event we’ve attended in havasu in a looooooong time.

To add on, manufacture fun funs to the Springs for lunch one day to mix it up.
Lots of options. I 100% agree, in water show vs the parking lot and a larger vender village.
Flip the stage to play out into the docks and have a concert one night, dock party the next.

Thought the street party was cool as a spectator. But have never been around the big boats on trailers before, first time for me. Thought the trailers and tow vehicles were as cool as the boats strapped sideways on them. 😁

For sure. There is definitely some bitchen tow rigs! Maybe had an area as part of the vendors village as a tow vehicle show? Without the trailers attached. Takes up a lot of room. Or situated the butchen tow rigs parked at the ends of the vendors area facing the vendors area with still attached. A long of bitchen tow rigs encompassing the vendor area on the east side.

Last weekend of the month… load in Tuesday, lot event Wednesday, off/free day Thursday (you can figure out why), fun runs/video time Friday with Friday night dock party, Saturday pirates run and auction. Sunday daytime boating w afternoon catered/boozed dock party closing (for participants/sponsors only)…

🎤🫳⬇️

Yes I know this isn’t realistic without a pillow fight 👀🤣

Concert one night at the boat show and a freestyle jet ski show in the evening would be a pretty cool add.

Hi Dave: here's my two cents for what it is worth after putting on eleven Lake Havasu Boat Shows (2012 thru 2022) in April. The dates I preferred were always the first weekend in April as long as it wasn't Easter weekend. April is always a dicey month in Havasu for an outdoor event. Wind is your biggest enemy with rain second and extreme heat in third place. Generally speaking early April is usually mild temperatures (low 80s) while end of April can easily be low triple digits. Wind is totally unpredictable...a strong wind out out of the northwest is the worst. Good luck.

That far in advance it sounds like a crap shoot...3-5 days from a set date and you'll know what to expect.

The airport has automated weather reporting, NOAA should have historical data going back some number of years, you'll just have to figure out how to mine it.

To bad you couldn't just do it the same weekend as Desert Storm. As much as I see the positives for two seperate events, Desert Storm has become stale and boring. Same thing year after year. Out with the old and in with the new! SCFW, in my opinion, blows Desert Storm out of the water.

If they do Desert Storm on the same weekend SCFW ought to change their name to Steal the Thunder Super Cats.

I was a big fan of the show in the lot followed by in the water the next night.

I think if you do 2 night the same, the crowd will be smaller.

They were both different - I’m never down for doing the same thing 2 nights in a row. And seeing the rigs and the matching cars etc was very cool. I’d hate to see you give that up.

With a 20 hour drive to get to LHC, it was great for us to have back to back weekend events as we were able to attend both this year. Otherwise we'd only be able to make 1 of the events.

Agree. Looking at the big boats / tilt / rig setups is awesome. Another option (I know this would be a logistic / liability nightmare would be to have a combination. On Thursday dusk have a showcased launch with attendees watching / lining. You will see the rigs / tilts / boats light up and hear them fire up. Have guys on the dock assist slipping. Helicopters take off back to the airport. Water portion of the event is officially started. It would be killer and something the other events have not done.

I see it as two options. You do it on Easter with the boat show and just shoot it or you run it in parallel. This would not make any friends but would make an action packed week.

I would shy away from doing it the same weekend. That weekend is a shit show!! I avoid it now like the plague. Big part of what made SCFW so great was the lake and town wasn’t stupid busy. Back to back is fine.

On a side note, Easter weekend? Meh, whatever. We were on the road to the river this year on Easter Day. However, I get that’s not the same sentiment for many.

Too bad the race schedule conflicts with the first weekend of May. That would be a great weekend. Although, I think losing a few of the big dogs ti the races? Meh. 🤷🏻‍♂️ this event won’t have problems selling out again.

It sounds like some long term planning is in order…

Picking the dates year to year sure seems to have a lot of stress around it - I’d look at the next three years and always have the new date announced at the show for the third year out minimum.

Look at any big event and you could tell 10 years from now when it’s gonna happen

Indy 500, what weekend is that?

The Monaco Grand Prix, what weekend is that??

Pebble Beach Concour D’Elegance’ in Monterey / Carmel, what week is that?

Everybody knows when these events will happen.

All these types of events have landed on a specific weekend within a given month, and everybody knows it’s always gonna fall on that weekend no matter what the date actually is.
