He does.. I think we may just fly commercial. Some of these quotes are coming in around 70k round

Seems about right...
People fail to realize how expensive flying private really is.

A 12 year old TBM is over 60k a year just for insurance. It flies about 100 hours a year and that equates to 600 an hour. Throw in life limited components, fuel, maintenance, a hangar at 2000 a month, landing fees, storage fees at your destination airport and all the other stuff and you are at 2000 an hour for an old turbo prop that can go four hours if loaded light, you fly it yourself and your bladder can make it four hours. And that excludes the cost of capital for the 2.5 million that old plane would cost to buy today used.

The costs of flying around in a 24 million dollar depreciating latitude is astronomical and it may not make it west coast to east coast without a stop.

If the government didn’t subsidize flying private with all sorts of tax benefits and a free ATC system that every commercial passenger chips in for on every ticket with fees, flying private would drop substantially.

It makes a 1,200 dollar round trip first class ticket from the west coast to New York seem like peanuts and a great deal.

We have a friend that has a king air he said it cost around 1700.00 an hour to fly but that was 6-7 years ago

That puts things into perspective.

My buddy had a twin engine turbo prop. He had a private paved airstrip on his property in Belton, Mo.
I never got to fly with him but he told me it was considerably more expensive than most people thought.
This thread certainly proved that to me.

I thought RD could get it done for around 30-35K

I couldn't afford a plane, but it could also be a damn nice dragstrip for BBQ & Grudge Racing on a Saturday afternoon! Put some stand-up's in the pond and it's a party!

I have done many high speed blasts down that strip.
That is a twenty acre pond with a 10,000 square foot house overlooking it all built to commercial specs.
That is his shop and an airplane hanger on the north side of the runway.

I want to know what is in the bunkers in the compound beside your buddies property? Looks like a military storage site.

I think I know a guy that can help you out, but I don't have his number handy. I've also heard that he gives steep discounts to RDP members, especially if your name is Dave.

I agree with everything but the "free" ATC... Last I checked GA still pays excise tax on fuel which is what funds the FAA and ATC.

Correct, that is a ”drop zone”.
Very interesting story about all that. I’ll find the links some time and make a thread about it all.
Interesting, sad, and infuriating.

I was guessing missile silo, or entrance to the underground tunnel complex that links all the Alien bunkers to Area 31 o_O

It for sure is more than I thought for a dry lease.

PM WTG for your "Living with Aliens" starter package. It includes tips for the novice like, "Greys can be friendly but frisky, and avoid any eye contact with the Reptilians and yes, they do bite"
😂 😉
Hey now, "friendly but frisky" and "they do bite" isn't exactly going to scare me away 🤣

Interplanetary "Love Connection" maybe? Adds a whole new level to "lot lizzards" though!

Ahhh
I see you’ve read my other book…
“How to be an internet asshole for dummies”

Emphasis on these chapters?

“Taking the micro out of micro-aggressions”
“Piling on…the safe way to limit your own exposure while still being an asshole”
“Mob think…it’s all the latest rage!”
“Passive/ aggressive…finding the fulcrum”
👍

Of course one might consider it as a compliment in recognition and acknowledgement of your vast knowledge of Groom Lake and Bob Lazar's works.
OR
Maybe you're right and your initial assumption is also correct, in fact, both could be. 🤔

You’re way off on your insurance guesstimate. More like $25k a year for a 4 year old 930 with $10mm liability and $4mm hull.

I'd happily spend the day in the TBM getting there, a day seeing the sites and a day getting back.

Better yet, make it a week and stop in LOTO to check something out on the outbound leg. Then maybe someplace in Texas on the way back, maybe scouting new RDP headquarters locations and then home.

The TBM is perfect for those types of trips. But I'm guessing Dave doesn't want to be out of pocket that long.

Your premium will be 1/3 that when you get a couple years experience. What do you pay for your 500 out of curiosity. We both like TBM’s and 500’s. Or 530FF in my case.
I'm not sure a few more years will matter after a couple decades experience. Take a look at your seat limits. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I've had a couple F models. Currently building up an E model that will come in under 1500 pounds empty.

RDP … where you come to find out your TBM930 is old and slow

I believe legacy aircraft is the preferred nomenclature vs. relic 😂😂

Amazingly they have gone up in price. And if you have an 850 with a pilot door they will really pay up.

And once you get a 6 or more in front of your age the insurance people run away faster than the ladies at a bar...........
