Dr Phil had an interesting show on this yesterday.... he's apparently well trained in body language and the like. He had some forensic and court reporter types on panel. The take away was the son had a video that dad wasn't aware of that the boy took at kennel just prior to murders and the dad's voice is on the video placing at the scene. Oopsy... that kills dad's alibi. Dr Phil thinks this dude is guilty and its an easy read. However as we all have seen... this is a small town and for 100 years this dude and parents/ grandparents ran legal system. So I'm very intigued and following closely. Its a good watch for those interested in a fresh perspective that news just isn't giving yet.

I am way more invested in this than I would like to admit. 🤣 (time wise)

I believe he is guilty however I don't think the prosecution has presented enough solid evidence (yet anyway) to prove to the jury that he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I bet he gets off on this and spends a lot of time in jail on the financial crimes.

Same! I've been listening to/ watching the trial every day, along with a podcast. 😬 Lol. He's a real piece of work.

I haven't followed the trial - but I have watched the numerous Datelines/48 hour/20/20 shows/update shows about it. This drama has been unfolding for years.

Wifey loves those shows!

The stuff in the trial right now is probably the most compelling I have seen the whole trial. The most relatable to "real" people.

Alex' criminal shenanigan's go back some time. He was disbarred, stole money, questionable deaths , lots of bad things in his past.

Wife has been watching it non-stop. Simulcast with some lady with purple hair and sunglasses. It’s entertaining for sure.

Hard to get my head around killing both son and wife over financial issues.... wife perhaps but son? This is really something.
The dude was desperate for money. Needed vast amounts of it. His ship was sinking, his criminal past collapsed his future,, so commit more crimes.
I've known families that damn near killed each other over the $300 left in their deceased mothers checking account.

There was no insurance on the wife or son.

She had told a "friend"/house keeper she just wanted to give it all up and start over from scratch. She wanted to give everything they had to the victims of the boat crash and the family start from scratch. Drug addict or not he wasn't having it. Not even the thought.

I don't think the "plan" was both of them. I think it was out of necessity. One or the other wasn't supposed to be there.

In my opinion, the "plan" was a murder/suicide, but he couldn't bring himself to follow through with the latter of the plan.

We had heard there was life insurance. May have got that confused with prosecutors said Murdaugh got his home insurers to pay more than $4 million in wrongful-death claims in the Satterfield case.

This is interesting too:

I'll Google that.,
The only insurance was on himself. 10 million, this is supposedly the reason for the whole road side shooting set up. He thought his insurance had a suicide clause so he wanted someone else to "kill" him. So Buster (the other son) would have money for the rest of his live. SUPOSSEDLY!

I don't know what was "hers" and what was "his", I "assume" that most of it is "theirs".

I'm worth about the same dead or alive so the worst that can happen is the kids tie me to a chair in the garage and feed me dog food and cash my checks.

The state is asking for "Life without parole" on the more than 99 financial crimes.

After this trial is over no matter the verdict on this trial.

I heard 730s year possible... total if guilty of all charges.

Read this thread, sounds like a damn movie plot. Now I need to Google what happened to get him here!
There are a few difference "tv shows" on it. Search "Murdaugh Murders", Dateline, 20/20, HBO, Netflix, all the typical tv shows/streaming sites have their own content.

It is a pretty complicated plot. More than a news story can cover.

As I mentioned it is a complicated story. His family has pretty much ran the court system at the county level for over a 100 years. It seems he enjoyed stealing from the unfortunate for shits and giggles.

Been watching the whole thing!

And it started way before the boating accident !
The boat accident and a "investigative reporter" brought it to light and to the public. Mandy Matney brought a lot of this to the light of day. I don't know the fall out between her and FITS News but I believe her reporting on this is why this is where it is now. I am rewatching the HBO "Low Country The Murdaugh Dynasty" a lot of details I have forgot about/not thought about in awhile.

The boat accident is where it was brought out and people were bucking up against the Murdaughs.

It all went down hill from there.

Edit: Check out https://murdaughmurderspodcast.com/ if you listen to podcasts and have sometime. There is 80 episodes FYI

And just to put it out there. If you are paying any attention to this case just think this is going on in every city, in every county, in every state...
Including the federal government...

After reading this thread, my wife and I binged the HBO series tonight. Damn, that’s a crazy story. I’m not sure I’d want to drive through that county, even today.

If you guys are into this stuff check out the Dan Markel murder for hire case going on in Tallahassee right now. It’s ripe for a Hollywood movie. There are hours of YouTube court room video available to watch. It’s really really interesting.

No way he skates. He called and specifically asked his wife and son to meet him at the property. They had been elsewhere. His timeline has been shredded. There's a Snapchat video that has his voice on it placing him at the murder scene less than ten minutes before the murders, and he claims he wasn't there. The clothes he was wearing an hour before the murders have disappeared, and he was wearing different and clean clothes when law enforcement showed up.

The Blackout .300 rifle used to murder his wife was identical to one his dead son owned, and it's missing. The shell casings at the murder scene matched other old Blackout casings found at the property firing range, and a weapons tech testified the casings found at both places were fired from the same gun. There's more. I'd say all that is pretty solid evidence.

The defense has made two critical errors that they can't recover from. The first one was asking prosecution witnesses on cross examination about Murdaugh's family devotion and his character. The witnesses all agreed he was a family man, loved his wife and son and so on. They were laying groundwork for his defense.

But the DA correctly asked the judge for an in camera hearing (the jury is excused) and argued because the defense had brought up the defendant's character, the prosecution could refute that testimony by bringing in the financial crimes because that spoke to his character as well, and that he committed the murders to hide the theft and embezzlement.

The judge agreed, and the parade of witnesses over the last two weeks that testified about the theft of $5 million from his law firm, $3 million from clients, and over $2 million from a local bank landed blow after blow. He had been stealing from the law firm and clients since 2011. The day of the murders, he was confronted by the law fim's CFO about $792,000 in client and law firm funds that were missing. He had also opened a DBA account that spoofed the name of a legitimate financial services firm, and had checks supposedly intended for that firm deposited in the fraudulent account.

The witnesses revealed how he was fired from the law firm and disbarred by the state. This also allowed his wife's sister to testify about the money worries the wife had, how her death had gutted her parents, and other damaging testimony.

Then yesterday and today, the defense did the same thing, mentioned in cross examination about the failed scheme Murdaugh hatched to have his drug dealer kill him so his surviving son could collect a $10 million insurance policy. The DA jumped on it, and the judge agreed testimony about the plot and Alex's $50,000 per week drug habit could come in (how the hell do you spend that much money on opioids without killing yourself?).

Besides these errors, the defense has failed to effectively counter prosecution witnesses. On cross they have wandered all over the place, asking inane questions and have not given the jury any indication at all they have a defense strategy.

The first rule of criminal defense is that you NEVER enter a line of questioning on cross examination that could expose the client to jeopardy. It's trial lawyer 101. Murdaugh's attorneys have been a disaster since the trial started, and the unbelievable unforced errors they made have guaranteed Murdaugh a life sentence without parole in AdSeg. He's going to be housed with the pedos, snitches, convicted cops, and other low lifes. If they put him in GP he'll be dead in six months.

The DA is a little bulldog, and Murdaugh's dirty laundry has wiped out any advantage his family legacy provided. He's fucked.

I'd bet he admitted to killing his wife and son when he came clean with all the other stuff. But his lawyers kept him from stating it.
